One thing we see Halle Berry doesn’t do…is age. The beautiful American actress and former fashion model will be hitting 50 next August, yet she doesn’t look a single day older than the Halle many of us came to know and love in the earlier parts of her modeling and acting career.
Maria Halle Berry (later legally changed to Halle Berry) was born in Ohio and raised, alongside her sister, exclusively by her mother ( who is of English and German descent). An active and scholarly student in school, Berry would later begin entering and competing in beauty contests. Long before she ever stepped foot behind a movie production screen, Berry was making significant strides in the world of modeling and pageantry.
She won Miss Teen All American in 1985, Miss Ohio USA in 1986, and placed first runner-up in the 1986 Miss USA pageant. She was the first African-American Miss World entrant in 1986, and shortly thereafter, moved to New York City to pursue her acting ambitions after her pursuit of a modeling career appeared to be less than glamorous.
Of course, we know she went on to gain a steady work as an actress, her first film debut coming in a small role for Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever (1991). She would go on to play many more roles, choosing to tackle hefty and serious roles that would range from career-driven women to former drug addicts.
Halle would go on to make history (again) when she would become the first woman of color to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her starring role in the movie Monster’s Ball. Her win has gone down as one of the greatest ‘Oscar moments’ of all time; Berry used her acceptance speech to honor previous black actresses who had never had the opportunity and opened the door for more diversity to happen in Hollywood (alongside fellow recipient, Denzel Washington).
Since then, she’s also gone on to play some notable characters in today’s media. Many of us know her for her portrayal of the superhero Storm in the film adaptations of the X-men series, as Catwoman, or as one of the Bond girl’s in Die Another Day.
Her recent work has included Gothika, Their Eyes Were Watching God (where she was nominated for an Emmy), and Frankie & Alice, simply to name a few. She has been the face of Revlon cosmetics since the 90s and the face of Versace. She’s launched her own production company, had three major Hollywood divorces, and been an active participant to political and social activism for years: supporting campaigns for Barack Obama, raising funding and awareness of women’s issues, and bills that protect celebrities’ children from harassment by photographers.
Aside from being named in “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” by People, “100 Sexiest Women in the World” on FHM, “Sexiest Woman Alive” by Esquire or “Sexiest Black Woman” by Access Hollywood, we at Fashion Bomb Daily call her a woman whose style has truly grown over time (okay, not as catchy). Let’s give you a throwback and take a look at Halle Berry then, and Halle Berry now.

When Balmain came out with their Spring 2016 Campaign photos this morning, I’m sure many people raised their eyebrows when they did not see a Jenner or a Hadid. Instead, Olivier Rousteing kindly reminded us of the supermodel pros in this business: Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer.
The iconic trio were shot in minimal lighting inside a New York City studio alongside the direction of Pascal Dangin. In response to his choice of the supermodels instead of the trendy models we constantly see on the runways today, Rousteing said, “When I was a schoolboy in Bordeaux, it was their editorials that first made clear to me the amazing transformative power of fashion…Looking at them now, I like to think that perhaps someday these shots might also form part of some future designer’s mood board.”
We can’t help but agree. So what do you think of the latest Spring 2016 campaign photo?
Target is launching its first ever in house beauty line of nail polish on January 17th. The collection, entitled Defy & Inspire, will include 38 different shades all named after iconic pop culture TV shows. The on trend colors include minimalist nudes, vampy reds, and vibrant aquas and are accompanied by names like “Make it Work”, “Real Housewife”, and “Confessional”.
“Real Housewife”“Make it Work”
In addition to being on trend, the polishes are also 5-free, meaning don’t contain chemicals like DBP, toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin and camphor. Using unique ingredients like pearls and highly concentrated pigments, Target ensures each color is long wearing and glossy. Thanks to patented plasticizers, the colors also resist peeling or cracking once applied.
Best of all, each nail polish costs only $7 a bottle! It might be time to abandon Essie and OPI and give Target’s collection a try, no?
What do you think?
Beauty brand Birchbox, best known for its makeup samplers, might have found a new signature product with their line of makeup to wear while exercising. The products are all light and long wearing, designed to stand up to your most intense workouts while simply enhancing your natural beauty.
Entitled Arrow, the collection includes a sheer gel blush available in two different colors, an aluminum free deodorant with a citrus scent, and a lip balm that develops in color as the wearers pH changes. The line will expand in May to include a waterproof mascara, a tinted serum and brow gel, cleansing wipes, and a moisturizing facial spray.
Now that’s an idea!
Do you think you’ll be giving this a try or should makeup stay out of the gym?
Quite a few of you fell in love with Laura Govan’s recent Instagram look! Naimah typed, “I am loving Laura’s outfit! The jacket and pants are to die! Olive is so in season and I love how comfortable this outfit looks but still chic and pulled together. Who are the pants and jacket by?”
Amber added, “I was wondering if you knew where these pants & top Laura is wearing are from? You guys really know everything about fashion. Hopefully can you respond. Thanks.”
No problem! Laura G did it for the ‘Gram in a $200 Jet Set Bomber by Almost Friday and $85 sporty luxe trousers by Ricki Brazil.
Her jacket has a fox fur collar.
Her pants are fashioned out of textured terry jersey fabric. They have a low rise and an asymmetrical zip detail fastening.
I love this look, too! Those pants are mine.
Get her jacket here and her trousers at RickiBrazil.com.
Hot! or Hmm…?
While we may not always receive justice when a system is corrupt against a group of people, there may always be a silver lining or act that provides a small glimmer of hope.
Yesterday, January 6, 2015, the Texas State Trooper who pulled over Sandra Bland, Brian Encinia, was fired after being charged with perjury. According to a grand jury, he lied about the confrontation that took place between him and Bland after pulling her over. He claimed she was “combative and uncooperative” while testifying in court, also providing a written statement to detail the altercation.
The affidavit stated that he “”removed her from her vehicle to further conduct a safer traffic investigation,” but grand jurors “found that statement to be false,” said special prosecutor Shawn McDonald, who was one of five special prosecutors appointed to investigate the case in question.
In case you needed a reminder: After making an improper lane change, Sandra Bland was pulled over by a police officer who, with video evidence available, holds his gun and repeats “I will light you up!” after Bland refused to get out of her car. His claim for the arrest was that she assaulted a public servant (police officer), although the video provides audio footage of Bland off-camera screaming that the officer had knocked her head into the ground and that he was about to break her wrists.
Sandra Bland was taken to a jail 50 miles outside of Houston, and three days later was found hanging in a jail cell. Bland’s death was ruled a ‘suicide’ and sparked a nationwide outrage amongst the Black community, civil rights activists and citizens who supported the Black Lives Matter movement and who believed her death was a homicide. Most recently, a grand jury had decided not to persecute any sheriff’s officials or jailers in her death.
Encinia’s perjury charge carries a maximum of one year imprisonment plus a $4,000 fine. On top of the charge, the Texas Department of Public Safety has begun “termination proceedings” against Encinia, who had still been receiving a paycheck even after Bland was found dead in her cell.
While this will never be enough in the fight of the Black Lives Matter Movement or the grieving families of all those unlawfully killed by police brutality and an unjust system, may we have a small piece of hope knowing that some justice is better than none. We continue to pray for her family and the families of those who we will never forget in our quest for equality and respect in America.
Awards season is here! The 2016 People’s Choice Awards is kicking off a jam-packed next few months with our favorite actors, TV personalities, songstresses, and more in attendance.
Let’s see what they wore!
Priyanka Chopra went for full-on glitz in an allover paillette Vera Wang dress. I can’t wait to see what she wears for the rest of awards season!
Rocsi Diaz slipped on a gold contrast bodice gown from Theia.
Keke Palmer gave a flash of ab in an off-the-shoulder black lace Yousef Al-Jasmi crop top and high-waist maxi skirt, accessorized by Anne Sisteron jewelry. I liked this.
Christina Milian definitely turned it up in a purple sequin gown with a thigh-high slit. Werk Christina!
Kat Graham gave a modern spin to the classic black and white LBD in a leather trim bodice and lattice-work sheer skirt number for the awards show.
Devon Franklin and Meagan Good were all smiles on the red carpet.
Jason Derulo and Daphne Joy were quite the good looking couple! Jason wore a dot blazer with a fringe-hem scarf and Daphne donned a white cutout turtleneck gown with silver embellishment and a thigh-high slit.
A natural updo, statement-making gold necklace, rust sleeveless top, and white full skirt were on the menu for Grey’s Anatomy’s Jerrika Hinton. She’s gorgeous!
Straight Outta Compton’s Aldis Hodge was dapper in a grey suit. Isn’t he scrumptious?
Arden Cho tried on the sheer dress trend for size in a red and black embroidered shirt dress style from Mario Dice. This was fab.
Kate Hudson was white hot in a strapless jumpsuit. Her style is impeccable!
Tamala Jones flaunted her curves in a striped embellished dress with a jewel-encrusted neckline.
All-black was on the agenda for Nathalie Emmanuel in a sheer knit crop top and high-waist velvet trousers. Hot!
Julianne Hough gleamed in a black sequin off-the-shoulder gown with a cutout bodice from Kaufman Franco, accented with Forevermark Ear Cuff Studs and a Stackable Ring Set from the brand. Great dress.
A velvet studded Balmain dress was Meghan Trainor’s choice for the occasion. To wake up and find this beauty hanging in my closet…sigh.
I mean, we always have to give a mention to Uncle Jesse John Stamos right?
Vanessa Hudgens glimmered in a silver metallic Kayat gown with a deep v-neckline and thigh-high slit. Hot!
Lea Michele’s toned gams were on display in a long-sleeve embellished Elie Saab LBD. The brand simply can do wrong when it comes to red carpet-worthy frocks!
Shay Mitchell skewed sultry in a black halter dress with a thigh-high slit with silver strappy embellishment. Total babe.
