Dolce & Gabbana has been recently enjoying a rush of positive PR thanks to their magical runway at their Fall 2016 show in addition to their recent line of hijabs. However, they’ve made a critical misstep with their new “Slave” sandals.
The colorful pom pom sandals are a part of the Spring 20’16 collection and are now available online for pre-order. The sandals are on their website under the full name of the “Slave Sandal in Napa Leather with Pom Poms” and priced at $2,395.
Interestingly, the sandals are also available on other retailers websites like Saks Fifth Avenue with the names “Pom Pom Wrap Around Sandal” and the “Pom-Pom Leather Lace-Up Sandal.” It seems these retailers found it necessary to change the offensive name, unlike Dolce & Gabbana.
According to Footwear News, “While the term is, in fact, a description for a particular lace-up shoe silhouette, it is almost entirely obsolete with the now widely-preferred description “gladiator sandals.”
The brand has yet to make a statement and so may are left wondering about this controversial decision when a less offensive term has been used for so long. What do you think of the brand using the term “slave”?
*Obviously D&G started feeling the heat, as the sandal is now named, “Decorative Sandal in Napa Leather with PomPoms” on the site.
The Rihanna train is showing no signs of slowing down! The superstar just released news of a footwear collaboration with none other than famed designer and one of Ms. Fenty’s favorites, Manolo Blahnik.
The collection is all about denim, hitting stores and online on May 5th: three days after the Met Gala which we think is quite fitting. It’s inspired by Rih’s statement-making hand tattoos and features lace-up detailing, pointed-toes, beaded embellishment, a thigh-high length, and more.
Only six styles are featured in the assortment, which will be available at the brand’s stores in New York, London, and Hong Kong. The prices range from $767 to just under $3,500—on par with traditional Blahnik pricing. Expect a queue or two for this.
“The day I see a woman in the street wearing my shoes…I am sorry for that woman because I’m going to literally run after her, shouting, ‘Stop! Selfie! Who are you? Where did you get them?’ I’m going to have a moment,” told Rihanna to WWD.
In speaking of the collaboration with WWD, Blahnik stated, “[Rihanna’s] drive, passion, creativity and style have been reflected in the designs, with fabulous results — I think everyone is going to love what they are about to see.”
By the way the world has reacted to her River Island and Fenty x PUMA collections, we’re certain this will be a hit. And she’s been spotted out in the brand too many times to count, thus the synergy here is perfect.
PFW is rolling on! A few of our favorite stylish stars were front row at Lanvin, in everything from timeless trench coats to statement-making stripes.
Let’s see what they wore!
Ciara is taking PFW by storm! She took in the collection in a classic trench, silky LWD, a python shoulder bag, and matching python boots. Russell Wilson was by her side in a matching ‘fit. They’re cute!
Kelly Rowland accented a timeless collared blouse and black midi skirt with $825 Jimmy Choo Viola Sandals. She’s always stunning. And were these named after one of our faves, Viola Davis? We hope so!
Model and social media star Irene Kim anchored her colorful hair and $1,885 Mixed Stripe Linen Blend Mini Dress with black leather thigh-high boots.
A tuxedo-inspired jumpsuit was on the menu for Bonnie Chen. I still need a piece like this in my wardrobe!
Taiwanese model and actress Annie Chen was one of the ladies in red, clad in the brand’s oversized heart necklace and a ruffle gown. Gorgeous no?
Emmy Rossum went for full-on glamour in a one-shoulder draped cherry and blush stunner. I love her style!
Yang Lan has been called the “Oprah of China”! She kept it simple and chic in all-black with a blush shoulder bag. I need to read up on this powerful woman!
Underground star Jurnee Smollett Bell was caught looking quite extraordinary as she graced the red carpet for the world premiere of the new WGN series. The actress gave pure life in a Marchesa black off-the-shoulder dress and a bomb pair of Tom Ford calf-skin lace-up heels.
Her ladylike dress boasts a fitted waist and bell sleeves. As far as her shoes go, the Tom Ford beauties house a 4.25 inch heel, an open toe and front ties around the ankle. And, get into that gilded stiletto!
She completed her look with a delicate gold choker and dainty rings.
In addition, a few of our other style favorites also came out to support the launch of this highly-anticipated drama. Angela Bassett, John Legend and Mykelti Williamson were also in attendance.
If there’s one person we’ve been seeing a lot of lately, I would definitely say it’d be Kelly Rowland. The beloved DC3 member and avid fashionista has been on our radar for YEARS, but lately, her style game has elevated even more; so much so, we had to take a look at her style evolution over the years!
Now with Kelly, she’s always been stylish. Even back in her Destiny’s Child days, we saw Kelly rocking designer threads and something to accentuate her curves and awesome bod!
However, with time comes evolution, and we’ve definitely seen Kelly’s. On the red carpet, her style aesthetic is one of super well-tailored gowns, jumpsuits and covered-up clothing that still evokes the sexiness and playfulness she’s always exuded. Out and about, her looks still are polished and well put together. She just doesn’t give off days!Laquan Smith, Rhea Costa, Victoria Beckham, Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and many more hot designers are but a few of the fabulous name brands in her closet. Trendy yet always pushing the envelopes of what’s in, Kelly’s really blossomed into a fashion frontrunner and definitely one we all look for when we’re on the scene!
Let’s take a closer look at her style evolution over the years through our curated gallery. Let us know! What do you think of Kelly Rowland’s style evolution over the years?

Every once in a while, we get a bomb blogger or duo who want to also be featured for Fashion Bombshell of the Day, so of course we have to show the whole family love! Today we’ve got a submission from Michelle on her daughter, Mori from Glenside, Pennsylvania:
She says, “My name is Michelle and you’re looking at the face of “That Black Chic” Mori.” We are a mother-daughter blogging team hailing from right outside the City of Brotherly love.”
“I make the clothes and Mori wears the clothes, that’s how we roll.”
“Mori is not locked into one particular style and is willing to try anything once, it also doesn’t hurt that her Momma usually buys her new shoes for the outfits that I make and use on the blog.”
“I am a fabric mix-ologist and big bold in your face prints are what we like to showcase on the blog.”
“We are usually on the same vibe when it comes to fashion and I don’t think she’ll ever be too old to call me and get my opinion on an outfit.”
“Clothing is art and I am a artist sharing my craft with the help of my daughter.”
“Thanks for the consideration!”
Wow! I dig your looks, especially that printed matching suit. Chic! Stay up to date with Mori and Michell on IG: ThatBlackchic and their site, www.thatblackchic.com. What do you guys think of Mori’s style?

Wigs were on the menu for Balmain’s Fall 2016 collection with supermodels including Lineisy Monteiro, Ysaunny Brito, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Alessandra Ambrosio swapping their coveted hair colors and lengths in real-time for opposite shades. Naturally, the iconic French fashion house’s smoldering fashion was also present with lace mini dresses cinched at the waist, skintight skinny trousers, sheer mesh stripes, and cleverly-placed cutouts in abundance—anchored with come-hither thigh-high boots and modern takes on the buckle-accented loafer.
Olivier Rousteing loves a good ruffle—so do his legion of fans all over the globe and fashion at large quite honestly. He spread the dainty detail across high-neck blouses for a Victorian feel, sheer lace midi dresses for that quintessential Balmain sexiness, the top of a corseted dress for a modern take on boning, and a white lace jumpsuit that was a bit of 70’s and a lot to take in.
Fringe moved down the catwalk on a black long-sleeve gown on Ming Xi that would’ve been a dream on the Oscars red carpet, a flirty white mini dress that will surely be worn by a bride-to-be at one of her many pre-wedding festivities, a cold-shoulder top that could give life to even the most pared-down jeans and shoes, and a stunner on Gigi that screamed “Cannes”.
Texture was introduced on thigh-baring mini skirts in both fur and feathers, while a cozy cutout topper made the case for wearability.
And color play was a point of focus, with Rousteing showing vignettes grouped by hue or lack thereof. Morticia Addams would’ve been impressed with the range of all-black ensembles. She wasn’t much for functionality, but we fashion girls can appreciate the appearance of black tights as anchors.
Baby blue wasn’t decidedly Fall, but it felt fresh with suede lace-up mini skirts, a stripe suit, one of the brand’s signature mesh and fringe beauts, and a zip-front dress in a romantic brocade.
And pink was just as frilly and girly as most associate with the shade. Ruffles, lace, cutouts, form-fitting silhouettes: some of the most powerful and unabashedly sultry getups in the whole collection.
A Fall collection wouldn’t be complete without outerwear. The coats and jackets shown were strong and surprisingly wearable: waist-cinching belts not required, though they will certainly accentuate your figure.
This was the trademark Balmain way that Rousteing has forged since his time at the brand: strength, jaw-dropping details, an attention to form, and sky-high luxury. We’re pretty sure the Kardashians are already figuring out what they want from the assortment: especially as Kanye West and Kris Jenner sat front row.
