The 9th Annual BET Honors occurred last night in D.C., and the red carpet was full of Fashion Bomb Celebs.

Janelle Monae went with a velvet Armani suit , Saint Laurent heels, and a Rodo clutch. I like!
Mack Wilds looked extremely dapper in a 3 piece suit.
Toni Braxton showed off her abdomen in a scintillating cut out black gown by Charbel Zoe.
Fantasia gave all types of body in a drape front silver dress by Sir Algernon.
Monica Brown looked like a princess in a Dennis Basso ball gown.
Empire’s Jussie Smollett was bomb in all black. Boom!
Lastly, Patti Labelle might have had my favorite look of the night in a pink and orange custom creation by B Michael America. Hot!

The romance and glamour of dinners and dances in South America in the 60’s and 70’s were Juan Carlos Obando’s inspiration for Fall 2016: the kind he would have witnessed as a child in Barranquilla, Colombia as he isn’t yet forty. Grace and gesture are signatures of his brand and he continued with that love of flow and motility by way of undulating ruffles, thigh-high slits, tie-waists, and cutout shoulders.
Bold colors are another of his trademarks: forget the old “Winter means dark hues and neutrals” fashion adage. Cherry red, mustard yellow, and dynamic teal were placed alongside black, white, blush, and navy.
Obando sure knows how to create a statement-making detail. Pairing a single, head-turning and collarbone-grazing earring with any ensemble will most likely get a woman noticed, though layering a sleeveless turtleneck over a ruffle-accented top with a strappy neckline can easily do the same.
In a day and age where trends punctuate this very month at hand, it’s refreshing and also quite practical to see a designer like Obando cling to what is quintessentially him: beautiful pieces that complement the female form, are elegant without being overdone, and that aren’t often seen on racks and in online stores. He not only gained a slew of celeb fans in 2015, but also sold quite well. By the looks of this collection, there’s much more were those successes came from.

The silk piece boasts dots, geometric prints, and the signature Medusa head.
Nautical-inspired design is a mainstay in fashion, especially for the French: thank you Coco Chanel for the proliferation of the Breton stripe almost a century ago. But as with any classic, it creates the perfect foundation for iteration and innovation. Cedric Charlier tried his hand at the timeless influence—inspired by the sea and a woman who moved her digs from the coast to let’s say, the beautiful cobblestones of Paris.
The impetus appeared on sailor jackets turned into mini dresses, roomy trousers with red and white stripes accenting the inseam, lots of navy, and that timeless maritime button pattern on pants and peacoats.
Anyone who has spent time by the sea knows the power of layering, thus Charlier assembled looks with bustiers over turtlenecks (a great trick in real-time) and knit and leather dresses and sweaters over mock-neck tops, with cozy fur collars as accents.
Outerwear was a strong focus with a statement-making yellow belted trench, tried-and-true navy peacoats that we could snatch off the runway and wear in right now, a cropped shearling that will surely please the street style set, and a glossy patent-sleeve number that was as sleek and modern as it gets.
Functional, fun, and friendly: these are just some of the ways you can describe Charlier’s latest. It riffed on one of the most classic and approachable themes, while still injecting a sense of modernity and singularity into the mix.

Wanderlust Reality at Chloé
Ever wonder what it would be like to travel on a motorbike across Europe and the Middle East in the 1970s? Globetrotter Anne-France Dautheville was the starting point for Chloé creative director Clare Waight Keller’s Fall 2016 RTW collection in Paris this week. The free-flowing works of caftans, motocross jackets, and shearling capes were as functional as they were romantic. The silk neck ties sweetened the narrative and we’re guessing this simple accessory will re-appear in high street styling.
Balmain’s Surprise Swap
“Wigs were on the menu for Balmain’s Fall 2016 collection with supermodels including Lineisy Monteiro, Ysaunny Brito, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Alessandra Ambrosio swapping their coveted hair colors and lengths in real-time for opposite shades. Naturally, the iconic French fashion house’s smoldering fashion was also present with lace mini dresses cinched at the waist, skintight skinny trousers, sheer mesh stripes, and cleverly-placed cutouts in abundance—anchored with come-hither thigh-high boots and modern takes on the buckle-accented loafer.”

Poetry at Rick Owens
The human backpacks from last October were not present at Rick Owens this time around, but humanity was on the mind for the American fashion designer. That is, the changing environmental system and its implications for mankind. The Fall 2016 RTW collection was a blend of delicately draped neutral looks in pony skin, leather and mohair. Cocoon-shaped silhouettes and puffer gowns served double duty as statement-making ensembles and warm, protective garb for a dynamic world.
Wild Wild West at Manish Arora
The Western American narrative is oft-referenced in designer collections, but not in the ways Manish Arora conjured up this past week. The presentation’s 37 looks swung from literal horse embroidery on knit sweaters to more subtle illustrations on form-fitting blazers. Yet, Arora consistently has surprises up his sleeves and incorporated Dutch wax print in a strange cultural melange.
And The Rest…
Feline instinct dominated Alexis Mabille‘s cat-adorned blouses and mini-dresses without the costume effect. Barbara Bui fascinated audiences with a patterned array of bomber-esque capes. Fashion disruptor Vetements brought the fire with creative director Demna Gvasalia’s revved-up thigh-high boots and text-heavy sweatshirts, made for this generation.
