Hey loves! Glad everyone’s been enjoying the NYFW posts! As a tribute to my last full day in the Big Apple, I present Zina from Brooklyn:
She says, ” My name is Zina Reed and I’m from Brooklyn, New York.““I would say my style description is minimalist chic for the approachable fashion girl.”Let’s check out photos she sent along:
Cute! You definitely give us a minimalistic vibe, yet still fashionable. That last look and the denim dress are my favorite! You guys can keep up with Zina on IG: @damnzina. What do you guys think of Zina’s style?

With this whirlwind of show reviews, snow and endless cups of Starbucks, New York Fashion Week has proven to be quite the endurance race, lol! And, I’ve enjoyed every single minute.
My day three was a little light, as far as scheduling was concerned. I spent a majority of my morning catching up on Fashion Bomb posts while preserving my energy for the upcoming Jonathan Simkhai presentation.
Jame and I arrived to Milk Studios early Sunday evening as we made our way inside for check-in. We flashed our credentials, dropped our names and BOOM! — we were in dat thang (via standing room)! I was so excited! I had my camera ready, my Snapchat loaded and my Instagram was poppin’ but then the unexpected happened…
A tall, buff man simply walked to the middle of the room, raised his hands and proudly announced, “I’m sorry folks, but the Jonathan Simkhai show is at full capacity. But, we thank you for coming out – please exit to your right and watch your step.”
I was too heated!
My eyes started to dart back and forth across the room in hopes of processing the message I just received but even the slightest bit of understanding was shadowed by frustration. In my mind, I was like “SIR, I have walked through at least a mile of blistering winds, my fingers are STILL numb, I’m STILL cold and you mean to tell me I can’t get into the show?! This can’t be real.”
But (in reality), I remained calm. I turned to Jame and we calmly discussed our next move.
We decided to just hang out in the lobby, lol. I mean, this was our only show for the day. So, the “hanging out” began – we sifted through the crowds, snapped pictures of some impressive street style…
… And then we spotted blogger/beauty extraordinaires TK Wonder and Cipriana Quann (aka TheUrban Bush Babes)! But, they were moving like the wind – literally in and out in a matter of seconds; however, Jame pursued them and got the shot of a lifetime.
After that, it was like the domino effect! Some of the best names in fashion started to emerge from the itsy bitsy elevator leading up to Simkhai’s set. We ran into supermodels Herieth Paul and Grace Bol, the lovely Justine Skye and even spotted street style faves June Ambrose and Taylor Tomasi Hill. There was also talk that Anna Wintour was in the building as well…
We hit the Fashion Week jackpot!
Our luck was just too good at this point. Eventually, we made our way up to the set to snap a few additional pics and, suddenly, I got my ENTIRE life. In an instant, Shiona Turini and Rajni Jacques emerged from behind a random corner (I’m guessing it was an exit from backstage, lol). I almost died.
After almost passing out from excitement and stumbling over my own words, this happened. I couldn’t believe that I was standing with one of the stylists behind Beyonce’s controversial “Formation” music video as well as Racked.com’s Editor-at-Large – it was BEYOND surreal!
I definitely learned a lesson that day. Although things may not flow as smoothly as you’d like, there’s always an upside. And, even though Jame and I failed to sit in on Simkhai’s flawless showcase, we hit it big in meeting some of the most influential faces in the fashion world. We’re living testaments that the greatest successes can stem from small failures.
I’m convinced that life can’t get any better! 🙂
Carolina Herrera stands as one of the long-standing arbiters of classic sophistication and her Fall 2016 RTW collection this week embodied an elegant continuation of her brand’s heritage. Delightful 3D leather florets, sumptuous pleating in mint green and royal purple, and sexy interpretations of traditional masculine materials made for an inspirational runway show.
Top model Karlie Kloss opened and closed the show for the designer and rocked two stunning looks – one deep-V herringbone print dress with cutouts and another violet halter-neck gown with a ruched waistband. Gorgeous silk emphasized the female form in ruffles, delicate layers around the ankle, and tiny strands in an exquisite corset top.
First Lady Michelle Obama has worn a number of Carolina Herrera pieces over the past few years (see here, here, and here!) and based on FLOTUS’ previous picks, I’m selecting the blue and grey patterned coat with cream lapels, the floor-length floral embroidered iris gown, and the black-and-white sleeveless dress with black tulle trim for future presidential outings. What do you think?
Understated was the mantra on the runway. Models were barely accessorized, but looked every bit sensational in cut-out booties, square white-tipped sunglasses, and matching printed bags.
Overall, the presentation was fresh and full of enchanting pieces. The brand is definitely taking its cues from the modern woman and pushing the Carolina Herrera aesthetic confidently into the future.
What are your thoughts on Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2016 RTW Collection?
Sadly, Beyonce did not appear on the red carpet for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, though she in attendance! The Formation songstress presented the award for Record of the Year in an Inbal Dror White Lace Dress:
She swept her hair in a low chignon, and completed with statement earrings.
Her dress has a jeweled collar and a cut out back.
She looks pretty! Go’on Beyonce.
What do you think?
The 58th Annual GRAMMYs red carpet is underway! Music royalty, our favorite songstresses, Snapchat faves, and more are already in attendance.
Let’s see what the stars are wearing!
Zendaya Coleman was suited up in DSquared2 and an 80’s-inspired mullet. Always taking risks: gotta love it!
A chic black look is Adele’s go-to, thus she didn’t stray from her aesthetic in a sequin Givenchy gown. I liked this.
Selena Gomez shimmered and sparkled in a blue cutout Calvin Klein stunner. Stunning!
Vanessa Simmons called forth Spring in a white and yellow brocade number with a plunging neckline and front slit.
Lianne La Havas went bold in a sculptural floral Vivienne Westwood frock and a chignon. Hot!
Taylor Swift showed off her chiseled abs and new Anna Wintour-esque bob in a strapless bandeau and high-waist full skirt with a thigh-high slit by Versace. Werk Ms. Swift!
DJ Khaled unlocked a major sartorial key with his houndstooth blazer, but his trousers needed a bit of tailoring. And no sneakers on music’s biggest night sir!
It was all about navy for Liz Hernandez in a draped cutout midi dress and topknot. Simple and chic!
Lalah Hathaway served curves in a white embellished cape gown. This was fab.
Kehlani was the lady in red in a long-sleeve, keyhole-detailed gown. She’s never looked better!
Model Bella Harris posed in Alice + Olivia alongside her father, music icon Jimmy Jam. Isn’t she gorgeous?
Songstress Diamond White left little to the imagination in a sheer embroidered Joyce Pilarsky gown.
Carrie Underwood showed off her toned gams in a black strapless Nicolas Jebran gown with a thigh-high slit and rosette-embroidered cups. Pretty!
Tori Kelly brought the glamour in a asymmetric, full-skirted forest green design.
Kacey Musgraves couldn’t be missed in a colorful strapless Armani gown and a Forevermark Cluster Cocktail Ring. Definitely on the list of Best Dressed for the evening!
Ellie Goulding was pretty in pink in a blush Stella McCartney design.
Florence Welch’s Gucci gown was the sartorial embodiment of a lullaby.
Who had your favorite look at the awards show? Stay tuned as we update with all of the night’s ensembles!
Janelle Monae was the lady in red at the 2016 Billboard Power 100 Celebration in the same Cristiano Burani Fall 2015 suit Rachel McAdams originally sported back in July:
This season, every brand is re-thinking Fashion Week and as president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), Diane von Furstenberg potentially has the most pressure to lead a way forward for brands trying to figure out how to stand out and sustain profits in the midst of frenetic fashion week cycles. On Valentine’s Day, von Furstenberg presented her Fall 2016 RTW collection in an unconventional way for her brand — a disco party at the DVF headquarters on West 14th Street in New York.
The collection was split into five vignettes in different areas, where models Jourdan Dunn, Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Kendall Jenner and others did their best at the dab (I kid…) to disco tunes. The theme of Love Power was evident in rouge-tinged wrap dresses, glittering jump suits, and high-slit floral numbers. At one point, von Furstenberg even joined the models to participate in the dance festivities.
The brand is committed to its female empowerment philosophy, so many of the looks were about meeting women where they are and augmenting their existing closets — think fitted jackets, tailored vests, and over-the-knee suede boots. Save for key fur stoles, many of these pieces could have fit right into a spring / summer wardrobe.
Favorite looks included the fur-trimmed coats, fringe accessories, and the contrasting paneled wrap dresses. The see-now, buy-now movement continued at DVF where a few pieces would be available immediately following the presentation, including a black-and-white dress worn by Gigi Hadid.
Much of the looks didn’t scream innovative or even cutting edge, but for von Furstenberg’s certified gold model squad and dance party presentation, the audience watching and snapchatting certainly felt it was a moment they would hold dear from NYFW.
What are your thoughts on Diane von Furstenberg’s Fall 2016 RTW Collection?
