• Jean and Jane Ford, twin cofounders of BeneFit cosmetics, are the subjects of a new movie, Glamouriety. The movie chronicles their journey from models to beauty moguls who still don’t seem to realize that black people come in more than one shade of brown. • Julia Bluhm, a 13-year-old Seventeen magazine reader, is sick of seeing the same over-photoshopped, rail thin girls and women in the glossy. So, the strong-minded teen is taking matters into her own hands, and started a petition on Change.org, calling for Seventeen to put at least one unairbrushed spread in each issue. “I want to see regular girls that look like me in a magazine that’s supposed to be for me. For the sake of all the struggling girls all over America, who read Seventeen and think these fake images are what they should be, I’m stepping up. I know how hurtful these photoshopped images can be. I’m a teenage girl, and I don’t like what I see. None of us do. Will you join us by signing this petition and asking Seventeen to take a stand as well and commit to one unaltered photo spread a month?” It’s absolutely wonderful to see this young girl taking steps to help remedy a problem that is oh so pervasive within the fashion industry.   2. People are beating a dead horse when crying about seeing females that look “like them” in magazines… Enough already. This girl,along with other girls,parents should have a long sit down talk with them. The sad and funny thing, they could put out pics of models without photoshop,and they will still look better than the majority of females complaining. Magazines are a form of entertainment.. Just like things are made up for TV and movies,the same applies to magazines. That’s why they sale. No one wants to see flaws, not even the ones crying about not seeing their flaws published. I wish ppl would get that through their heads.

  5. As courageous as this is, she picked the wrong publication. Maybe Teen Vogue would’ve been a better candidate, perhaps. Seventeen magazine always features models of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities. That why I’ve always admired Seventeen even as a adult because growing up, they featured girls that resemble like me.

  7. unbrushed photos yes…but when will we realise that there are thin women too? “real women” can also be thin. its not 99% of women are thick or fat…come on. be far to the thinner/slimmer/petite women. ask for a mix. but don’t be biased

  11. I really enjoyed Benefit’s cream foundation until they discontinued my shade. In fact, they discontinued all of the shades after what I’d call ‘caramel’. -_-

    It’s always funny how companies will have no black shades but tons of white shades and I’m pretty sure black people come in more shades than white people. :P
