Issa’s Creative Director, Blue Farrier, pulled inspiration from some of the most influential women in the art world for the brand’s Resort 2015 collection. French sculptor and painter, Niki de Saint Phalle, Picasso’s muse, Françoise Gilot — the places they would vacation (the south of France for one) and what they would wear while doing so were the main points of influence. Sugary hues including lime, coral, and neon yellow punctuated the vibrant silhouettes that oft had a retro-inspired vibe with drop waists, ruffle hems, bermuda shorts, and culottes all playing together in a supremely feminine mix.
Flowers burst through in 3-D effect on the sleeves of blouses and sweaters, in a more subtle fashion in a print on knee-grazing shorts, and embroidered on an on-trend crop top.
The lively pattern didn’t stop there as it was smattered across a button-front blouse and cropped trousers for head-to-ankle print, blown up on a long-sleeve dress with a scalloped neckline that the Duchess of Cambridge might just sport in the coming months, in even bigger form on an easy tunic and wide-leg pants, and blurred for an added dose of edge. Florals are done season after season, but Farrier made a good case for them here by making them different and fresh.
The pervasive undulating lines and playful ruffles, peplum, and cutouts captured the collection’s artsy inspiration on eye-catching sweaters, office-ready jackets, blouses ready for both work and play, a party-ready two-tone dress, and even down to the ankle-strap sandals.
The brand is a favorite of celebs and there are a plethora of looks to choose from here for the red carpet and other stylish fêtes. A kimono-inspired gown with soft colorblocking won’t need anything more than a sleek chignon and rosy lips, while a white floral adorned dress with sheer mesh and eyelet panels is flirty yet sexy enough to make a statement with strappy metallic sandals and luminous skin.
Issa is a brand for stylish women who feel at home in far-flung destinations with their wardrobe of travel-ready caftans and dresses always at the ready. Color and prints are always on the menu and Farrier certainly succeeded in giving loyal fans of the brand everything they want. The collection was also fun and vibrant enough to pull in some new customers who want to look polished, yet own original pieces for the season at hand. The designs are so good that a spotting of the Duchess in them isn’t even necessary to give the lineup a needed boost — though a thumbs up from the royals never hurt.
