Lucie Meier and Serge Ruffieux have had pretty large shoes to fill at the Dior Atelier. The couture collection bubbled over with wardrobe staples and elegant choices geared towards what a fashionable woman, perhaps one roaming the streets of Paris, would need: a lot of black and white. Many pieces were longline blazers paired with silhouetted skirts, tulle petticoats and simple items paired with classic shades of gold and silver.Footwear remained minimal to sandals and gladiator form, however, not truly inhabiting the space of haute couture in Dior fashion. The collection also seemingly strayed away from the fitted form, embracing more of a loose, yet still graceful, approach to the Parisian fashion aesthetic.Makeup was kept to an over-the-eyelid cat eye and nude lips. Slicked back hair or wildly fringed bangs continued the beauty looks of models cascading down the runway, arguably marketing to the young, carefree woman with minimal time on her hands still vying to look beautiful. Overall a stunning collection, it left much to be desired of the fashion house powered by new aesthetics and out-of-the-box thinking. Nonetheless, the overall style was simple, polished, and targetable to many clientele.
What did you think of Dior’s Fall 2016 couture collection?
For somewhat of a fledgling atelier, this being it’s sixth season, couturiers Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo have dominated red carpets the world over and have amassed a who’s who of clients the likes of Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian-West, Jordan Dunn, and most recently Lil’ Kim, who sat front row during the show. And with clientele like this, the pressure is definitely on. Yet, they remarkably deliver season after season. Today’s offerings were no different. Silhouettes didn’t seem to vary dramatically from last season’s collection with column dresses still being submerged under cascading capes and voluminous floor-length coats. But Ralph & Russo’s manipulation of tulle and use of silk organza as the backdrop for delicate glass embroidery is nothing short of masterful.
Red carpet gowns traipsed down the catwalk in floral printed silk chiffon, embellished satin, and taffeta cut-out flowers in shades of midnight, amethyst pink, and ice lavender. The separates were not to be missed. A silk organza bomber jacket appliquéd with mink poms poms and ostrich feather blossoms, a cocoon cape with hand embroidered crystals, and a white cashmere floor-length cape with ruffles and jour échelle cutouts at the arms made for eye-catching standout pieces.
Adding a bit of whimsy, which could or could not have been intentional to offset the often serious atmosphere associated with couture season, the pair accompanied a few looks with dramatic matching hats. A burgundy floppy hat played off the colors in a hand-painted halter silk organza gown. A wide-brimmed topper continued the autumnal motif through the silk satin chiffon gown it was paired with.
The obvious stunner being this season’s white tulle fishtail wedding gown assuredly elicited a few gasps of onlookers in awe as it closed yet another successful show. Supremely beautiful and overwrought with femininity, Ralph & Russo’s options for women who indulge in luxury and glamor are vast. I can picture stylists now placing their requests for next award and film festival season. All-in-all, the collection was just as fascinating as the last. And with the level of creativity, craftsmanship and elegant aesthetic Ralph & Russo possesses, they’re certain to leave us as breathless in collections to come.
While the rest of the world is focused on bright colors, Chanel brought us back to Parisian couture in its finest fashion.Tweed, structured shoulders and soft palettes graced the runway, with Renaissance Victorian-era frocks and cuts making a resurgence. Drafted to take place inside a replica of the Chanel Ateliers, embellished clothing still took on an air of sophistication, with strong structuring and floral motifs cascading from embroidered vestments to hemlines and lapels.A strong deviation of Chanel’s previous Cuban excursion collection, Lagerfield returned to Parisian roots and executed looks of simplified elegance and pose.
Of course ateliers such as Chanel set the blueprint for Haute couture. What do you think of the Chanel collection?
Fourth of July happenings abounded across the nation and around the world.
From pool parties to yachting around Italy, celebs were all over celebrating America’s independence. But which of your favorites brought the fireworks with their style offerings? Hmm… let’s take a look!
Chrissy Teigen was all smiles posing for pictures with hubby, John Legend, and Emily Ratajkowski during the Revolve in the Hamptons 4th of July party. She wore a $144 Tularosa ‘Aiken’ off-the-shoulder top with denim cut offs while Emily wore Privacy Please’s ‘Hoge’ top and long blue jeans. John kept the party going in his Gucci printed shirt and shorts. Perfect looks for summer ready fun!
Mariah Carey celebrated as well, with fiancé James Packer while yachting around the island of Capri. The Elusive Chanteuse sipped on wine while wearing a cleavage bearing red dress. Hmm… I’m not a fan of the pantyhose, especially since they’re surrounded by water. Other than that, carry on, darlings!
Taylor Swift (pictured with her arm in the air) and her ever evolving girl squad snapped a pic during fireworks. Uzo Aduba, Blake Lively, Cara Delevigne and Gigi Hadid all shared in the excitement, most of them wearing onesies emblazoned with the American flag. Fun times! One question, though? Where’s Tom Hiddleston? Hmm… maybe he’s the photographer.
Also in Capri, model and actress Selita Ebanks was makeup and care free and stunning while boating through the Blue Caves, wishing all of her followers a “Happy 4th.” She effortlessly slayed during her vacation in this $405 Agent Provocateur ‘Dakotta’ red swimsuit, thus becoming the firework. Hot!
Sofia Vergara played host during her Fourth of July party, with lots of pastries and sangria for her guests. The actress kept things simple in a white off-the-shoulder top and long red skirt. Cute look! Hopefully, there’s an invite for us next year. The eats looked amazing!
Artist and blogger Tk Wonder celebrated her Independence Day in a colorful cover-up from Asos, Public Desire sneakers and signature voluminous mane. Love this look!
Tk Wonder’s twin sister, Cipriana Quann also opted for tons of color with her Mara Hoffman swimsuit. Can these ladies do any wrong?
Well, that’s it for now! Hope you all had an amazing 4th of July! Who rocked your favorite Fourth of July looks this year?
