With the Olympics underway taking place in beautiful Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, all eyes are glued to television screens watching the world’s most elite athletes compete for coveted medals. But there are a few that stand above the rest, figuratively and literally when on the podium for awards. One such athlete has been on everyone’s radar, taking the gymnastics world by storm. Her name: Simone Byles.Since competing professionally in 2011, nineteen year old Simone catapulted into history by becoming the most decorated female gymnast in American history, having a combined total of nineteen Olympic and World Championship medals. In the past week, the pint-sized phenom delivered at this year’s Olympic Games, captivating onlookers and securing gold medals in the team, all-around, floor and vault exercises and received a bronze for her efforts on the balance beam. You read that right: four gold medals and a bronze in the space of a few days. And have you seen her leotards? Giving nods to the colors of the American flag and covered in dazzling Swarovski crystals, doing a double-layout punch front has never looked so resplendent. Aside from tumbling her way into the hearts of many, Simone has also landed a slew of endorsement deals with huge companies like Nike, Kellog’s, Hershey, and Procter & Gamble, propelling her way into commercial success. Her accomplishments are indicative of her fervent determination as far as the sport is concerned, but there’s so much more than winning medals. In a sport that doesn’t see a myriad of African-American women compete, it’s so important for her to be a positive representative for black girls everywhere who participate in artistic gymnastics. From Dominique Dawes in the 90’s to another decorated teammate, Gabby Douglas, Simone is the perfect person to pass this torch to.
Though all eyes are on her, it doesn’t seem like she lets any of the attention get to her head. Being a beacon of hope and inspiration for many young black girls the world over can be a bit daunting. But she’s focused, accomplished, but most of all, wears such an inviting smile and exudes so much humility.
So, join us in congratulating this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday, Simone Biles on all of her achievements, especially those at this year’s Olympics! This just goes to show how much magic there is in melanin.
If you’ve been under a rock for the last five years, you’ve been missing out on the guilty pleasure that is Basketball Wives LA. The drama may be enticing, but we’re here to highlight another reason why we tune in. Enter this week’s Beauty Crush Wednesday and fan favorite, Malaysia Pargo! The television personality stays occupied being a mom of three and heading her Three Beats jewelry line and her eponymous bedding collection. But despite being so engaged in other business ventures, Malaysia seems to always make time to ensure her makeup and hair are never out of place. She often gives prominence to her gleaming smile by sporting bright red lips: a classic shade that can never go wrong. But when experimenting with beauty, you can’t be a one trick pony. From fluorescent pinks to burgundies and even nude shades, she chooses the right hues to compliment her glowing ebony skin.
And what’s a beauty dissertation without bringing attention to the many hairstyles in Malaysia’s arsenal. From long, curly locks to a blonde bob and even a red wig sporting bangs, she seems to have done it all, in the name of changing things up for exciting new looks.
Gorgeous! Maybe she should consider creating a beauty line to her already expanding repertoire. Would you buy if she did? If you can’t get enough, peruse our curated gallery of Malaysia’s best looks. What do you think? Is she worthy of this week’s title?
Happy Wednesday, Bombers and Bombshells!
I popped into San Francisco yesterday to attend the launch of Hauwei’s newest smartphone: The Honor 8.
The glossy stylist tech piece comes in eye catching colors like sapphire blue, midnight black, rose pink, champagne, and pearl white.
More stunning that its presentation are its capabilities! I fell in love with their 12-megapixel dual-camera (which takes fabulous selfies), wide screen, and cool shortcuts (you can use your knuckle to access your music or favorite apps with ease).
It also charges super fast and stays charged!
I have an Iphone, but am always open to new products, especially ones with great cameras and fun extras!
Prices range from $4000-$450, but you can get a $50 rebate at HiHonor.com. Learn more about the Honor 8 and redeem here.
Are you familiar with Honor phones? What do you think?
Rita Ora was snapped while leaving her TriBeCa apartment in New York City, outfitted in an Ellery Resort 2017 Red, White and Black Printed High Neck Ruffle Trim Long Sleeve Coat Dress:
She opted for a bold red pout and accessorized her look with a pair of stunning Erickson Beamon earrings.
Her printed coat dress was modeled with black trousers for the brands Resort 2017 lookbook.
Umm…I like the dress but the fussiness of the hair just throws the look off a tad. Hmm…
Today’s Bombshell of the Day represents for Guyana and Florida. Meet Michelle:
She writes, “I’m a Guyanese lifestyle blogger living in Florida. I have a degree in architecture but have an interest in all sorts of design including interior, jewelry, and fashion.”
“My style varies greatly with my mood. Some days I want to be super comfy and will don a pair of Converse all stars and other days I want to reach for the heavens and will spend the entire day in 6 inch heels.”
“Over all, I am a fan of bright color and patterns. I’m trying to get more comfy with mixing prints. I started learning to sew a few months ago and have started adding my own pieces to my wardrobe with the hopes of one day launching a line of my own.”
