This post about the Color Full Lives podcast is sponsored by State Farm®.
State Farm has a fabulous new series called Color Full Lives, which was created to reach and empower African-American women via a series of podcasts discussing topics important to our lives(Relationships, Finances, Entrepreneurship, Education and Health & Wellness)! It gives a nod to the full and multi-faceted lives African-American women lead.
The latest podcast features Angela Yee, Hey Fran Hey, and Tatiana Jones. Called ‘I love My Self,’ the ladies talks about self care, self love, and self empowerment.
The ladies touch on the topic of self esteem, and feeling the need to change your body to fit in. All ladies are very open about their insecurities, yet stand by their refusal to succumb to societal pressure to look a certain way.
As someone who puts their image on social media all the time, it took me a long time to turn a deaf ear to criticism and embrace everything about me, even my big boobs. And the crazy thing: after a while of me putting my image out there, people started to like my style! It was crazy!
The conversation is really good! Listen to the full podcast here or here.
In this social media age, I’m sure we can all relate to feeling pressure to change our bodies or style to be deemed more acceptable by our peers. What do you think of this epidemic? What is your answer to those who might encourage you to change your body or style for likes?

Her crepe LBD features a round neck, sleeveless silhouette, monochrome feather detailing at the shoulder, a curve-hugging fit, and an asymmetric monochrome feather panel at the front.
Hot!
If you’re up for the splurge, get Salma’s frock here.
The Dior show is always one of the most talked-about each season! Stars flooded the front row in wares from the fashion house: prints, cutouts, embellishment, and statement-making accessories were in abundance.
Let’s see what the stars wore!
After showing her own Fenty x Puma line in the City of Lights, Rihanna tended to her duties as one of the iconic French fashion house’s faces and collaborators. Her white embellished, cold shoulder mini dress, strappy DSquared2 sandals, and colorful shoulder bag were hot!
Couture maven Marjorie Harvey took to the show with husband Steven in an off-the-shoulder blush frock with a white contrast trim. She’s always flawless.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie showed that she’s much more than a brilliant author: she’s clearly also a complete fashion plate! Her black and white printed stunner and two-tone pumps were absolute style perfection.
Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana of Thailand was the lady in red in a supremely feminine, flare number from the house. I’ve got my eye on her!
Supermodel and icon Kate Moss kept it simple in an embroidered denim shirt.
Jennifer Lawrence kept it surprisingly pared-down in a sheer tank, boyfriend jeans, and pointed-toe pumps.
Mommy-to-be Marion Cotillard kept it clean and easy in a white jumper, printed mini, and embellished pumps.
Karlie Kloss looked every bit the model in a black, long jacket, lacy blouse, printed high-waist slit pencil skirt, and smart black courts.
Embellishment was on the agenda for Gemma Arterton in an icy blue and burgundy set, anchored by printed strappy pumps. Cute, no?
Diane Kruger looked impossibly cool in shades, a colorful embellished frock layered over a white, off-the-shoulder top, a pink Diorama bag, and patent booties. I live for her style!
Olivia Palermo went bold with an exceptional black lip, a black and silver sheer top, embellished pleated skirt, and loafer-inspired pumps. This was fab.
Nicole Warne was Fall-perfect in a navy, double-breasted long jacket, black turtleneck, and embellished pencil skirt.
Susie Bubble always looks adorable and this time was no exception! It was all about stripes for the style maven.
Aimee Song uplifted a high-waist split pencil skirt with an asymmetric printed top, bold mini bag, and pointed-toe booties.

Yesterday, I was blessed to film a talk for BET/Centric’s series called the Round. Fashioned after TED talks, the Round features African-American industry leaders in various vocations as they share their journeys, wisdom, and advice. The goal is to uplift, inspire, and empower.
Every talk was poignant and overwhelmingly powerful; you’ll definitely want to tune in this Fall/Winter!
For my speech, I spoke about my humble beginnings. Though a lot of you were saying “Yassss!” when I moved to Paris (see my announcement post here), Paris was not glamorous, people! I struggled while there to find a job and a decent place to live. Bet ya didn’t know that. Now you know. Tune in to Centric to get the story;)
To speak on the round, I went for my interpretation of Parisian chic in a Balmain blazer I scored at Net-a-Porter, a Haute Hippie Gold top, and Rayar Jeans chain distressed jeans.
Facts: Rihanna is a colossal pop star with a sphere of influence that spans fully across the globe. She’s sat in many a front row and has donned Couture looks with absolute ease—it’s truly all in a day’s work for Ms. Fenty. But Paris has absolutely held a special place in her heart, which is why she transported her sporty Fenty x Puma world to the fashion capital for Spring 2017.
The dignified and luxurious Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild felt like the perfect venue to show the assortment, though Rihanna’s original inspiration came from another famous location in France—the Palace of Versailles. Like so many sartorially-obsessed women like her, Marie Antoinette served as influence for the designs. And the self-proclaimed bad gal is no stranger to the royal dwelling—she shot her Dior campaign there last year.
The pieces were as delightful and alluring as sporty chic pieces can be—completely edgy and modern iterations on her queenly allusions. If the French Queen ever frequented an Equinox or dared to sweat to maintain her physique, she might just wear these clothes: at least in Rihanna’s mind.
The things on display that felt the most imperial? Pearl necklaces, lace detailing, floor-grazing jackets, and cameo brooches wherever possible. Corsetry and rosy pink cheeks drove the titled point home with aplomb.
Puma’s athletic signatures peeked through with baseball caps, mesh-detailed dresses, platform sneakers, an update on the brand’s snap-side track pants, drawstring bags, and oversized hoodies. The collection switched between the elevated and the active effortlessly, with getups that often combined the two: not wholly unlike Rihanna’s actual wardrobe.
And the palette here was much more delicate and mellow than the debut’s gothic color scheme—or lack thereof. Bubblegum pink, olive, beige, and white dominated: a range Marie Antoinette would surely be fond of.
Three centuries ago, it was normal to see men in powdered wigs, heels, and voluminous silhouettes. So it felt right for Rihanna to include men in the show—considering she’s a huge proponent for brands that have completely thrown out gendered designs in favor of pieces that can work for everyone.
I truly cannot wait to see how Rihanna wears these looks: especially the lace-up pumps. She welcomed everyone to the show in the fanciest take on a track jacket and matching pants that we’ve ever seen: eyelet-accented with a drawstring shaping the waist like a peplum, a train anchoring the trousers in drama and decadence, and a Puma logo fan. If we’ll all look that good in the wares, then sign us up for just about everything.
What do you think of Rih’s Spring collection for Fenty x Puma?
Cut from fluid silk-twill, these tapered ‘Adele’ pants feature a red, teal and mustard botanical print. Adjust the drawstring waist for an exacting fit.
Ayesha rocked the runway look by pairing her Adele pants with a navy blue and red trim blouse.
I would wear this in a heartbeat! Definitely worth the splurge!
Her top is sold out but you can purchase the pants here for $315.
