The swim caps and poolside-perfect attire in Miu Miu’s Spring 2017 collection made us wish it was Summer all over again. The looks were a luminous and pleasant dream, steeped in retro-inspired allure and sophistication.

Miuccia Prada pulled from her adolescence for the assortment: Italy’s confidence and enthusiasm in the late 60’s and 70’s, along with that era’s eye-catching patterns.

The brand’s spin on seasonal florals included cozy stoles with armholes for that languid, off-the-shoulder look, terry coats belted at the waist, sarong and apron-inspired skirts, and colorful doctor’s bags.

Abstract and artful prints also made an appearance, for a real vintage vibe. They were strewn against everything from barely-there hot pants to bow-back blouses.

Accessories included functional wedges, 70’s chic multicolor shades, easy slides with rosette accents, sky-high platforms, and exotic skin shoulder bags.

And there were certainly a lot of swimsuits on display. So essentially Miu Miu is telling us to take no days off from staying active and drinking our favorite green juices.

Outerwear was also a main focus in the collection—with striped jackets accented by fur collars, fit-and-flare designs with bracelet sleeves, and the aforementioned terry stunners that could literally double as the most stylish bathrobes ever.

Rihanna probably already has a few of these pieces—to be debuted on Snapchat or Instagram soon I’m sure—though we’re certain Miu Miu fans like Margot Robbie, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Corinne Bailey Rae will also be spotted in the brand’s wares in the coming months.

Beyoncé and Gucci are a sartorial match made in Heaven! The star stepped out toting a $2,850 GucciGhost Tote and one of her very own Formation Tour crop tops:

She further accessorized with a $490 Gucci leather beret and Gianvito Rossi velvet sandals.

To a woman who needs no introduction, this Mexican-Kenyan award-winning actress and film maker has stolen many a gaze during every red carpet event she attends.  Lupita Nyong’o’s statuesque frame has been the canvas for many a blue chip designer, but what’s just as striking as the stunning gowns she wears is her natural beauty.

Already an accomplished actress in Kenya, Nyong’o rose to international stardom after landing the role as Patsey in the historical feature film 12 Years A Slave. Since then, she’s been a red carpet favorite and a dream for noted photographers, and it’s not difficult to see why.  Nyong’o has unabashedly shattered beauty standards with her ever changing natural hairstyles and flawless dark skin.

Taking advantage of her complexion, she’s often seen sporting bright, vivid eyecolors and bold lip hues.  From rosy pinks to oranges and even blues, Nyong’o has a deep adoration for colors and isn’t afraid to take a risk when it comes to different shades. 

Like her achievements, her hair knows no bounds.  Though she mainly rocks a chic buzz cut, on occasion she changes up her look.  From braids to afros to her iconic gravity-defying updo at this year’s Met Gala, she’s proven how much beauty there is in natural black hair.  

Now on the press tour for her upcoming film Queen of Katwe, Nyong’o has been making her red carpet rounds and has never looked more regal.  Pairing Elie Saab and Carolina Herrera gowns with stunning head wraps gives a nod to her heritage.  Furthermore, she can be spotted wearing bold, African printed pieces by black New York based designers like Kibonen NY, Busayo Olupona, and Dpipertwins. 

 

For us, being beautiful goes beyond the exterior, and Lupita Nyong’o definitely exemplifies that.  Outside of the glitz and glam, she stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration for black girls who think their dreams aren’t valid.  Her involvement with Mother Health International, an organization dedicated to providing relief to mothers and children in war-torn and poverty stricken regions, landed her an honor at Variety’s Power of Women. And through her WildAid initiative, she’s taken a stance with Kenyan government to demonstrate their zero- tolerance approach to poaching and ivory smuggling.

Facts: Vanessa Seward’s business is flourishing. Last night, she opened her first Parisian boutique on the Boulevard Saint-Germain, after setting up shop with a store in L.A. She demonstrated exactly why she’s prospering with her Spring 2017 collection—brimming with the blueprint that has made her brand an international hit.

Those signatures included graphic t-shirts and patterned dresses: overflowing with functionality which we all know is a cornerstone of a fruitful label.

Printed separates continued to expand the wearability quotient, with colorful classic stripes, spirited animal patterns, and artful motifs.

What’s more practical than denim? Seward’s came in dark wash on a hooded midi dress, thigh-baring shorts, mid-rise cropped and cuffed jeans, an oversized tote, belted shirt dress, and button-front playsuit.

Nathalie Emmanuel will certainly slip into one of the collection’s many jumpsuits, but it would be nice to see Seward create some more glamorous designs for her next assortment. Her pieces are too good to not be worn on the red carpet, but they’ll need a little more glitz and glamour to make it there.

We’ve been gone for a minute but we’re back with another installment of ‘How Do You Wear It?’  This time it’s all about velvet.  We’ve showed you 25 times celebs rocked their velvet threads and we’ve even given you a shopping guide.  Now we want to see how YOU wear it!  The submissions inbox was flooded with tons of stylish fashionista ready to show us how it’s done.  Let’s get into some submissions, shall we?

Mary, also known as @The_Cocopolitan, looked chic in a bright yellow velvet jumpsuit.  I love that she accessorized with metallic pumps and a caged purse.  Cute!

We received tons of submissions from ladies who purchased thigh-high electric blue boots.  Here is one of my favorites!  @_merced_   wrote, “Hi I go by Merced Verbena, (I’m) a stylist/designer from the Bay Area but based in the LA area. I am wearing Twelve Am CO’s (@twelveamco) blue velvet crush thigh high boots.“

Stylist Jessica Fraser (@thee_shopaholic) rocked her velvet boots with a striped button down shirt and bold accessories.  I’m feelin’ the color combination… and I want that hat!

Fanny, @fannyphx, looked cute in her high waist velvet pants.  I love a modern take on a retro ensemble.

Designer Shakira Nacole, @Kira_Nacole, gave us fall vibes in her matching top and duster.  Love this!

Aminata, known as @aimbeee on Instagram, embraced the velvet boots trend by rocking her silver boots with a grey romper.  Hot!

Myisha showed some leg in a green mini dress from her online store, @MysEleganceBoutique.  Sexy dress!

Last but not least, Alita (@thesillysimone) gave us vintage vibes in her purple velvet top, mustard colored velvet blazer and leather, high waist pants.  Obsessed!

Anna Dello Russo showed off her Paris street style in the same Chanel Fall 2016 White Ruffle Dress as Kristen Stewart did back in July for the Cafe Society premiere:

Anna rocked her Chanel dress with confidence and attitude.  Her shades added a personal touch.

Kristen stayed true to her edgy style by keeping her choppy hair cut as is and rocking minimal makeup.

I’m not a fan of this dress but Anna definitely rocked it better.  Kristen looks uncomfortable.

Disco is never going to die—in large part because fashion designers cannot get enough of the iconic era. Carol Lim and Humberto Lim were inspired by Studio 54 for their Spring 2017 Kenzo collection. Not an unprecedented influence we know, but the design duo’s riff on it was impressive, imaginative, and modern.

The pair worked with legendary fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez for the assortment—a man whose thrilling and carnal work is one of the markers of disco. It also harked back to reality for the brand, as Kenzo Takada showed a collection at the famed nightclub back in the late 70’s with Jerry Hall, Grace Jones, and more in attendance. Talk about iconic.

Despite the flashy motivation, there was a lot of functionality on display. High-waist trousers and classic button-front shirts lent a utilitarian air to the designs, while nylon LBDs made the best case for wearing the athletic-inspired, waterproof fabric to the office.

Outerwear ensured the Kenzo woman will transition from Winter to Spring in style. A white, calf-grazing parka was one of the most grounded pieces among the wares, with a red belted coat with contrast black lapels posing as its polar opposite.

Lopez’s photomontages of supermodels will surely be the most snapped pieces among the assemblage—and may have the most retail power if they’re priced reasonably. On oversized t-shirts, colorful high-waist pencil skirts, and drawstring-accented tops, they had the most star power: not just because they were emblazoned with some of the world’s biggest mannequins.

The easy slip and tank dresses uplifted with bold paillettes and sequin embellishment will certainly be red carpet go-tos for the brand’s legion of fans including Zendaya, Chloe Sevigny, and Vashtie.

It’s a battle of the brunettes!  Model Miranda Kerr was spied in the same $2,611 Unravel Lace Up Leather Pants as Kim Kardashian wore during Paris Fashion Week.

Miranda went rocker-chic in an over-sized black coat, black blouse and lace up Unravel pants.

Kim K. opted for an over the top look by pairing her leather pants with a Givenchy fur coat.

The lambskin leather pants feature a lace-up detail in the front, back, inseam and outer seam of the pants with fringe at the hem.

I like both looks but Miranda’s ensemble is wearable while Kim’s seems more like a costume.
