Can you believe we’re in the final throes of 2016? It was a huge year for models—with our favorite runway queens continuing to cement their names in history, as well as a few who doubled as both mannequins and celebrities.
This category is all about women who stormed the fashion industry and broke records. From hitting the catwalk more times than we can count to fronting campaigns for the world’s most iconic fashion houses, every single one of these nominees has demonstrated just how much power is to be had when beauty, brains, and some fierce posing are combined.
1. Naomi Campbell
This legend honestly needs no introduction. She is one of fashion’s longest standing supermodels and has continued her complete catwalk and campaign domination this year. The red carpet has been her BFF—check out her latest look in McQueen—but she has also taken to the runway for Versace and Yeezy.
The Balmain Spring 2016 ad campaign was on the agenda, as well as covers and high-fashion spreads for Another, Paper, Allure, W, and countless others.
And her red carpet moments were plentiful and unforgettable. Every fashion house in the world clamors to dress Naomi and she did not disappoint them, nor us.
If you’re in the game or ever want to be, notes should be taken on a daily basis when it comes to how Naomi is doing this whole fashion thing. If this is what aging looks like, sign us up as many times as possible.
Check out all Naomi has been up to this year here.
2. Kendall Jenner
Fact: regardless of what you think about the Jenner girls, they are absolute forces to be reckoned with in the fashion and beauty spaces. While her Kardashian sisters dominated in their own avenues, Kendall effortlessly slayed the style scene.
The raven-haired beauty turned 21 and gained incredible success along with another year of life. She continued her partnership as one of the faces of Estee Lauder, as well as snagging the Spring 2017 campaign for La Perla.
Her runway moments included walking for Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Givenchy, Fendi Couture, and a slew of others.
And with the help of stylist Monica Rose, Kendall was launched into the sartorial stratosphere. If she wore it, it was cool.
And with almost 70 million followers, she’s not just one of the world’s top models, but a veritable celebrity and social media star.
What’s not to love about Joan Smalls? She is an absolute dynamo—effortlessly switching between runway and off-duty, Couture and fast fashion. You’ve seen her on too many covers to count this year: Numéro, Harper’s Bazaar Germany, Glamour, and CR Fashion Book are just a few.
Joan is among the list of “New Supers” in the industry: solidifying her as one of the biggest and most important models of our time. She is also one of the highest paid, which is why you see her on a select smattering of runways.
Atelier Versace, Givenchy, Bottega Veneta, and Michael Kors are just a handful of catwalks Joan graced this year. She also fronted the campaigns for Balmain, Moschino, and Givenchy, as well as holding it down as one of the faces of Estee Lauder.
The Puerto Rican-born babe is the perfect blend of brains and beauty—she can take to a panel to talk about diversity and then glide to a high-fashion fête in next season’s wares. It’s all in a day’s work for Ms. Smalls.
Never miss a Joan moment by bookmarking this link.
4. Ashley Graham
To say that this was Ashley Graham’s year is a gross understatement. The model broke down some serious barriers in the industry, showing that curvy girls do it well both on and off the catwalk.
She was everywhere we turned this year, which made our jobs a lot of fun. She just landed a cover of British Vogue and was one of the faces of H&M’s Holiday 2016 campaign.
The red carpet sizzled every time Ashley stepped onto it. She donned pieces from Michael Kors Collection and Christopher Kane with ease.
And she also forged her name in history as designer, launching her own namesake lingerie collection and a runway assortment with Addition Elle.
As the judge for the new season of America’s Next Top Model, we’ll also be seeing Ashley on our television screens for the next few weeks.
The Dominican Republic is giving us some of the best models in the world and Ysaunny Brito is one of them. The 22 year-old phenom’s edgy haircut is unmistakeable, as is her prowess as soon as she’s put in front of the camera.
ELLE UK, French Revue de Modes, and Vogue Mexico all put her on their covers this year, though she posed for a plethora of other glossies.
And when it came to the runway, Ysaunny dominated. Zuhair Murad Haute Couture, DKNY, Tom Ford, and Fendi were just some of the brands that included her in their lineups.
And her campaign game was strong too, with Balmain and Public School on the list.
We can’t wait to see what’s next for Ysaunny. If you feel the same, stay informed here.
6. Gigi Hadid
If it wasn’t the Kardashian-Jenner girls running the world, then it was the Hadid sisters. Gigi strengthened her space at the top by continuing as one of the faces of Maybelline, as well as designing her own shoe for Stuart Weitzman.
Can you say celebrity? The blonde beauty played host and became a true star outside of all her modeling work.
But as you might have imagined, her portfolio continued to grow. Fendi, Moschino, Anna Sui, and Giambattista Valli were among the fashion heavy hit hitters who enlisted her on their catwalks in 2016.
And her relationship with the equally popular Zayn was fodder for at least a million articles, pictures, and Instagram posts this year. They took to Paris Fashion Week and red carpet events together and naturally, all eyes were on them.
The covers? W, Allure, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar. Pretty much all of them.
Like BFF Kendall, Gigi also worked with Monica Rose who made her as much of a go-to for her looks as she was for her runway moments.
Already on her to-do list for 2017 is her ongoing collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger, her relationship with that British-born crooner, and a soaring number of followers. She’s at 26 million right now, but that increases daily.
Ruth Negga hit the black carpet for the Loving premiere in Paris, clad in a Valentino Spring 2017 Red Bird Print Pleated High Neck Three-Quarter Sleeve Dress:
She is such a beauty!
Her floor length pleated frock features an all-over bird print and standout three-quarter sleeves.
Overall it’s a stunning ensemble. I just wish she did a tad more with her hair and makeup. What do you think?
She writes, “I was honored to be chosen as Bombshell of the Day back in November 2015, and since that time, I have seen my style evolve in so many fantastic ways.”
“I am even more confident in my choices instead of adhering to trends and what’s popular right now.”
“I find that I am collecting more classic pieces that can translate from season to season, but that will remain relevant and fresh over many years.”
“I also still enjoy mixing high-end, luxury accessories with affordable clothing, as well as incorporating different prints, textures and bold colors in all my looks.”
“I love the feedback I get from women of all ages, sizes, and colors who are inspired by my looks.”
“That’s what keeps me doing what I do on NikkiFreeStyle.”

The Hollywood Reporter’s 25th Annual Women in Entertainment Breakfast went down yesterday with our favorite musicians, TV personalities, and actresses in attendance.
Let’s get into their looks!
Kelly Rowland was suited up in a green Akris duo. She’s always flawless!
Is Issa Rae about to make her foray into the fashion industry? Her printed Ellery dress and stunning updo makes me think so.
Kat Graham uplifted simple black trousers with a romantic white blouse.
Eva Longoria slipped on her very own $100 Printed Fit & Flare Dress from her collection for The Limited. Great dress, no?
Michelle Monaghan was a blue dream in a navy cashmere pullover, white stretch-cotton-poplin dickey, and a chambray floral jacquard peplum skirt with sequin embellishment from Michael Kors’s Spring 2017 collection. I love her style.
Lea Michele waved to the cameras in an embroidered J.Mendel stunner.
Don’t think I’ve ever met a Giambattista Valli dress that I haven’t liked. Case in point: Emma Stone’s yellow number from the brand.
Kellee Stewart wore the second suit of the morning, in a floral jacquard twosome. Hot!
Kelly Rowland went bold and beautiful at the Los Angeles premiere of Office Christmas Party, clad in a Chloe Fall 2016 Multicolored Print Turtleneck Long Sleeve Dress:
Her burgundy Tom Ford leather boots were the perfect compliment to her statement frock.
Kelly glowed in a gorgeous face-framing blunt bob hairstyle.
Her patterned frock boasts a high neck and a textured multicolored embellishments.
It’s time to whip out the hot chocolate, jam out to your favorite Christmas tunes and spend some quality time with your loved ones. But, aside from the warm and fuzzy feeling of this festive season, December also calls for a moment of reflection. With 2017 on the horizon, it’s always exciting to look back over the past eleven months while forever remaining grateful for the lessons we’ve learned throughout the year.
In addition to sifting through personal recollections, let’s not forget about fashion! There’s no doubt that 2016 was a whirlwind of sartorial magic that included a plethora of statement-making trends but there were a select few that seemed to tug at our heart strings (and our bank accounts)! So, it’s my absolute pleasure, to review the year’s most memorable style trends.
Let’s get to it!
1) Off-the-Shoulder Pieces
It’s evident that off-the-shoulder pieces were the highlight of 2016! We watched as the stars put their own spin on the romantic feature while iconic designers also added their own versions to the mix. Off-the-shoulder dresses, shirts and jumpsuits flooded the racks of department stores everywhere. Yet, we simply could not get enough!
It’s always inspiring to see our style faves add individual touches to fashion’s hottest trends. And, no one did this better than Rihanna! Throughout 2016, the Bajan bombshell proved that a classic button-up can do more than just serve as a 9 to 5 wardrobe staple. Rih transformed the way we see collared pieces (and denim jackets) while opening up our minds to an innovative styling technique.
And, let’s not forget about Bey’s iconic Roberto Cavalli ensemble for her “Lemonade” debut…
Keep the off-the-shoulder trend for 2017! This feminine accent works for women of all body types and possesses a timeless appeal that can be worn from day to night. How can you not love it?
2) Perspex
Perspex was another hot 2016 must-have! Fashion enthusiasts everywhere were itching to get their hands on a pair of the highly-coveted footwear. Dior also released their wildly popular perspex ankle boots that were seen on the likes of it girls such as Shiona Turini and Chiara Ferragni. But, with the tremendous price tag, many of us had to settle for cheaper alternatives.
Kim Kardashian West was an avid supporter of this trend (along with the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan). With her hubby’s upcoming collection dropping, the style maven was a dedicated muse for Kanye’s Yeezy Season 2 footwear that featured the ever-popular lucite ankle strap sandal and the jaw-dropping over-the-knee boots.
Perspex pieces a usually a hit or miss. The style pairing has to be on point while the outfit alllows these transparent stunners to truly shine. Many fashionistas added some flair to their distressed denim by adding a pair of colored perspex ankle boots while others channeled their inner Cher Horowitz in a silk slip and graphic tee. All in all, perspex is a cool way to embrace an edgy vibe while staying effortlessly fly in the process.
Perspex should not continue into 2017. With Kanye’s controversial New York Fashion Week presentation still lingering in the back of our minds, it’s safe to say that we can move beyond this questionable trend. Next!
3) Duster Coats
Duster coats added a chic touch to the more exuberant celebrity looks of 2016. Fashion’s finest style mavens embraced this easy layering piece as a means to transform the simplest of outfits into street style gold! Chrissy Teigen, Victoria Beckham, Gigi Hadid and Karrueche Tran were all fans of these delicate toppers and an ultra-lux heeled sandal seemed to be the accessory of choice.
There were endless variations of duster coats found in every fashion outlet on the planet – whether you opted for a sultry silk number, a graphic print stunner or even an eclectic denim showstopper, it was impossible to deny the power of their versatility.
Duster coats provided an extra ounce of glam to feminine silhouettes that quickly became the standard uniform for bombshells worldwide. Duster coats also gave way to a new style category that gives women the freedom to be sultry and irresistable without flaunting a load of skin.
I adore the classic Parisian feel duster coats provide; furthermore, I believe they are also an incredible way to incorporate a bit of depth to any frock.
Dusters instantly radiate an aesthetic of lavish sophistication and they’ve become a wardrobe mainstay for the modern woman. Let’s keep them for 2017!
4) Embellished and Decorated Denim
Gucci revamped the American classic with the introduction of their embroidered denim jackets from the game-changing Fall 2016 collection. Multicolored butterflies, tigers, roses, bumblebees and French phrases covered the fronts and backs of their costly pieces (ringing in at about $2,600, to be exact) while ushering in an unconventional alternative to the reign of the bomber jacket.
2 Chainz, Blue Ivy, Kanye West and Rihanna were all fans of the whimsical outerwear and the wave of influence washed over the entire fashion world.
Embellished denim was also a favorite! Style pros (including FBD fave Marjorie Harvey) show us how to glam things up without creating a look that could come off as “too busy” or “crowded”.
Decorated denim is a funky and memorable way to spruce up your trusty jean essentials but it also helps to add a bit of personality to your outfits.
Embellished and decorated denim is a timeless trend that can carry over for years to come. So, whip out those Hobby Lobby patches and get to work because 2017 will be here before you know it! Let your personality shine through and let’s keep this fun trend going!
5) Boudoir Ready!
On countless occasions throughout 2016, we’ve watched as the stars transitioned boudoir-wear into provocative style fixtures while cultivating some of the year’s most tantalizing looks.
Designers had us combing our closet for lingerie that could, ultimately, double as exciting additions to our bland ‘fits and runway models served as relics of outfit envy as we searched for ways to wear such risqué pieces. The alluring threads ranged from lush silk pajama sets, slinky yet seductive chiffon robes and the signature black lace bodysuit.
Playful slip dresses were also on the menu when it came to boudoir-dressing. And, the go-to accessories? A plain white tee, a choker and heels, of course.
While it was inspiring to see the likes of Selena Gomez, June Ambrose, Zendaya Coleman and Kendall Jenner adopting this enticing trend, social media was also saturated with fashionistas who put their own personal twist to the trend that gave a firm nod to the 90s.
It’s in the best interest of us all to leave the slip dresses in 2016. As women, we want to feel sensual and sexy but this trend is just so overdone! Perhaps, another “theme” can be introduced for 2017 but it’s best to leave your skivvies in the bedroom.
Honorable Mention: Sheer Dresses
Sheer dresses were a hot commodity in 2015. But, when the clock struck twelve for the entrance of 2016, we saw a welcome resurgence in their overall popularity. We, here at Fashion Bomb Daily, continuously cover celebrity red carpet style and Tinseltown’s most anticipated events but, with the overflow of sheer ensembles we’ve encountered, it’s enough to last us an entire lifetime.
Sure, Queen Naomi Campbell can uplift a revealing, black Alexander McQueen embellished design like no other and, yes, Jennifer Lopez can do no wrong when it comes to showing a little skin but, honestly, we’re ready to end the sheer era – once and for all.
Gone are the days that we want to see everything below your waist. And, the ship has definitely sailed on showcasing more cleavage than the world can handle. Now, don’t get me wrong, we’re all for you doing you, loving your body and embracing every single flaw but we’re just over seeing a PG-13 alternative to your original birthday suit.
So if you own an overwhelming amount of sheer dresses, don’t get rid of them yet; instead, simply push them to the back of your closet until 2018. Let’s forgo rocking them in 2017. Leave it at the door!
What are your thoughts? What trends should we take into 2017 and which ones should we leave at the threshold?
Though most, if not all , of our beauty crushes, they rarely need any introduction. As is the case today, this actress, television producer, wife of Will Smith, mother of two of Hollywood’s most fashionable teens – Jaden and Willow – and frontwoman of rock band Wicked Wisdom, Jada Pinkett-Smith has paved quite the career for herself over the span of decades. Not to mention, the Baltimore native looks like she hasn’t aged since her A Different World days.
We know she has a rigorous fitness routine that keeps her physique so svelte. But by the looks of her skin, it looks like her beauty regimen is just as paramount. Sans makeup, flawless. Not a blemish or pore in sight. And when she jet-sets on tropical vacations, her bronzy tan is beyond glorious.
When she decides to get all glammed up, she prefers a smokey eye with earthy tones to compliment her hazel eyes. Either a nude, lightly tinted gloss or something berry hued borders her inviting smile when she hits the scene. Quite honestly, she doesn’t require a heavy beat given an already smooth canvas. When it comes to hair, Jada doesn’t shy away from taking risks and experimenting with a variety of different styles. Her most recognizable look, the iconic blonde buzz cut during the early 90’s, was definitely attention grabbing. But she’s switched it up a number of times since then. From curly afros that skew Donna Summer, to bangs, box braids and everything in between, it’s clear she doesn’t like to be pigeonholed into one look.
Outer beauty aside, Jada Pinkett-Smith has been a major supporter of youth development in urban areas of her hometown through her charity with husband, Will, The Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation in Baltimore, Maryland. And her vocal stance in boycotting the 2015 Oscar’s because of its lack of black nominees resonated with many and became part of a conversation needed to be had.
So, join us in celebrating this week’s beauty crush, Jada Pinkett-Smith!
Angela Simmons got her glam on, and of course took to Instagram for a quick slay. The new mom showed no signs of slowing down style wise, as she posed in her $159 Foofi & Bella Black Faux Fur Hood Jacket:
She added a pop of color to her look with a stunning pair of sold-out Christian LouboutinMarlenarock Crisscross red pumps.
They’re so divine!
Her light weight cropped coat boasts a signature floral lining, pockets at seams and clasps down the front.
Today’s Fashion Bombshell is Vernice from New York:
She writes, “My style is simple, classic, and I feel always going to be timeless.”
“I love color, so I always try to add a touch, and a touch of denim also. My style is ‘Every Dai’ style (pun intended).”
