The Fab List: 10+ Fly New York Fashion Week Style Moments

So New York Fashion Week kicks off tomorrow! The team will be on the Scene, collecting lots of great content, from street style to show reviews, and more! In celebration, we thought it fitting to reflect on some of the best New York Fashion Week moments over the past few years.
Let’s begin, shall we?

Yeezy shows are always fodder for unforgettable moments! The star studded front row for Kanye West’s first show read like a who’s who for the best and most beautiful in pop culture. Cassie, Rihanna, Beyonce, and Kim, along with Jay Z, Sean Combs, and Anna Wintour all came together for the showing; Rihanna and Beyonce’s stunning picture backstage was characteristically flaw free.

Kim Kardashian showed love for her man, even if her olive green ensemble made the internet go hmm…

But set the stage for the rest of Yeezy’s shows. For round 2, daughter North Wests stuck to neutrals, and seemed totally unbothered , even though flanked by Riccardo Tisci and Anna Wintour.

For the next show, at Madison Square Garden, the Kardashian/Jenners slipped on their finest furs and monochromatic looks for a backstage snap!

And for Yeezy’s latest show, which took place in Roosevelt island, models who could barely walk in Yeezy Season heels caused as much conversation as the famous front row.

We honestly could go on and on about the Yeezy shows, but they’re not the only ones making waves during NYFW!
Zendaya strutted in our collective conscience with this stunning Miuniku Yellow Coat, paired with jeans and Christian Louboutin pumps.

Karrueche Tran always comes to slay during the shows! Her Francesco Scognamiglio jumpsuit and House of CB duster coat were pitch perfect for the Laquan Smith show.

We know Solange is a Fashion Week favorite! Her color filled looks are always on trend.

There’s nothing more chic than friends supporting each other. Lala and Cici looked fly while supporting their homegirl Serena at her HSN show last season.

Though Rihanna tends to pop in during Paris Fashion Week, her NYFW moments are worthy of note! Her flirty white Adam Selman dress looked lovely with Christian Louboutin Impera Pumps.

Lastly, the Alexander Wang show is always a highlight of NYFW! A Solange Knowles, Zoe Kravitz, and Amandla Stenberg triumverate is always worthy of note.

Lastly, Taraji P. Henson posed pretty front row at A. Wang, sandwiched between Kylie Jenner and Zoe K.

Beauty Crush Wednesday: June Ambrose

bcw-june-ambrose-16

Heralded as one of the fashion industry’s most respected stylists, this New York transplant, by way of Antigua and Barbuda, has been one of the major driving forces behind some pretty iconic looks over the years. Think the inflatable shiny suit in Missy Elliott’s “The Rain” music video. Since then, this week’s beauty crush and friend of Fashion Bomb Daily, June Ambrose, has been unstoppable, curating looks for over 250 music videos for the likes of Jay-Z, Diddy, Mary J. Blige, and the list goes on and on.

With a schedule as busy as hers, it’s a wonder the self-proclaimed Rock Mom has enough time to stay as fabulous as she does. Often decked out in eye-catching garments and statement heels, her makeup and hair never lag behind.

Despite June’s eclectic and modern approach when it comes to patterns and textures, her makeup is usually timeless. I mean, what beats a classic red lip?  Chicissimo!

But when the occasion calls for it, she’s not afraid to go bold with a smoldering smokey eye, paired with nude lip.

Her hairstyle may not vary much from her signature cascading curls, so she often elevates her look with a fabulous fedora or a turban as her crown.

Aside from her amazing style, stunning skin, and effulgent personality, June’s work ethic and business acumen were the catalysts behind her success today. Black History Month Future Legends: Supermodel Lineisy Montero

If you’ve been keeping up with our Black History Month series, you know that we’ve featured some of the best in the industry thus far. Today, we delve into the world of supermodel, Lineisy Montero.

This Dominican-born beauty is one of the most sought after models in the industry today. Why, you ask? Well, let’s get into it, so we can all get hip together. Shall we?

black-history-month-future-legends-lineisy-montero05

Raised by her mother and grandmother in Santo Domingo, Montero had devout aspirations of becoming a fashion designer; she idolized Dominican native designer, Oscar de La Renta, and Italian designers Dolce & Gabbana. Little did she know that she would one day walk their famous catwalks.

Lineisy, pronounced Lin-a-see, was scouted at an amusement park at the mere age of 14. It would be 4 years before her mother would allow her to sign, internationally. Her first debut, was for the Prada fashion house; however, there was something peculiar about this new kid on the block. Amongst a plethora of models, who donned slick ponytails, Lineisy was the only one who wore her-all natural-baby afro. In an industry where diversity is often questioned, this bold stance was immediately recognized, and soon Lineisy became the “catwalk queen”, making appearances for other fashion houses such as Givenchy, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, and many more.

She tells Teen Vogue, “My hair has never been a question, it’s always been natural. I didn’t do anything special except walking in the shows. I see now that is a big thing for the fashion industry so I am of proud of it. If it changes the mentality in the business for models like me I would be very happy.”

black-history-month-future-legends-lineisy-montero06

In response to Montero’s AW15 debut, Elle UK’s fashion features director Kenya Hunt says, “The timing was just right for the fashion world to be ready to embrace a black woman with an afro. It was a transformative moment in that it gave the rest of fashion “permission” to fully embrace black beauty in all its variations. Certainly, black models such as Bethann Hardison in the 1970s and Roshumba Williams in the 1980s have made natural hair their trademark, but lately many black models have used extensions and chemical processes to attain a smooth, straight look. Montero’s progress has opened the door for others to adopt more natural styles”

Montero tells The Telegrah, “I’ve noticed a little positive change. Before, in fashion shows, all the models were blonde with straight hair, but now there are always two or three morenas [women with dark complexions] with natural hair. But there’s still a little way to go.”

She tells I-D she doesn’t know how long it will take for black hair to be the norm,
“I hope it’s as soon as possible! Girls like me love shopping too and most of the time we don’t recognise ourselves in the campaigns.”

She continues to say how she plans to fight racial discrimination, “I will just continue to be myself. I want to exist and be recognized for my work and who I am, not only because of my hair or my skin color.”

Her mantra is, “I can do all things, through Christ who strengthens me”
