On the Scene: The 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party with Naomie Harris in Calvin Klein By Appointment, Gabrielle Union in Jean Paul Gaultier Couture, Tracee Ellis Ross in Zuhair Murad, and More!

After the show, it’s the after party! First up came the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar celebration. Newly-minted Academy Award winners, presenters who made a quick change, and a slew of other iconic ladies and gents were in attendance.

Let’s get into the fête’s looks!

Naomie Harris donned her second Calvin Klein By Appointment number of the night. This time, she chose a one-shoulder gown that radiated goddess vibes to the max.

Gabrielle Union shut down the entire night in a black and electric blue Jean Paul Gaultier gown that showcased her toned physique.

Tracee Ellis Ross wore one of her best looks ever in a red embellished Zuhair Murad ball gown with a plunging neckline. She just keeps getting more and more fabulous.

Janelle Monae continued the slayage in a black Alexandre Vauthier Couture gown with a voluminous skirt, mesh bust and sleeves, grommet detailing, and a front slit. I thought she reached her peak on the red carpet, but this was even better!

Ciara was positively glowing in a curve-hugging Jovani Signature velvet gown that put her beautiful baby bump on display.

Kerry Washington shimmered in a long-sleeve, sequin Michael Kors Collection piece and a sleek bob. Couldn’t find a flaw.

Oscar winner Viola Davis was a vision in an all-white Brandon Maxwell suit. Flawless from head-to-toe!

Ruth Negga’s colorful strapless, sequin Oscar de la Renta gown with a high-low hemline couldn’t have been any more heavenly. Another reason why she’s one of my faves.

Thandie Newton brought the glitz and glamour in a plunging sequin Schiaparelli Couture dress with a sheer skirt, colorful shoulders, and a choker for added flair.

Rashida Jones was positively captivating in a navy, floral appliqué Prada gown.

We can always count on Zoe Kravitz to bring some edge to the evening and the dark romance of her Armani Privé gown was not to be overlooked. She never strays from her aesthetic and I love that!

Halle Berry slipped on her second Atelier Versace dress of the night, this time choosing a chainmail mini dress.

Décolletage was on the agenda for Mariah Carey who looked every bit the diva in a black and yellow printed Philipp Plein design.

Another stunning look from Ralph & Russo Couture! Jessica Alba channeled a retro ice princess in a delicate, pale blue ruffle gown from the brand.

Mindy Kaling was a floral dream in Naeem Khan. She’s never looked better!

Sofia Vergara flaunted her curves in a long-sleeve Michael Kors Collection gown. Hot!

Freida Pinto looked astonishing in a blue one-shoulder Elie Saab cutout gown with a thigh-high slit. This was perfection.

It doesn’t get much more refined than Olivia Munn’s red Giambattista Valli look.

Deepika Padukone posed alongside Christian Louboutin in a strapless, Monique Lhuillier gown with a gold sequin skirt. This was glamour done right!

Sarah Paulson went bold in a two-tone, black and yellow Ronald van der Kemp velvet gown. Certainly not for the faint of heart, but Sarah wore it effortlessly.

Kate Bosworth served up princess chic in a sage J.Mendel tulle ball gown. I loved the drama of this look!

Demi Lovato was ethereal in a wispy, lavender Monique Lhuillier piece. She totally knocked it out of the park with this one.

Kate Hudson was a total bombshell in a plunging Cavalli Couture gown with ruffle and sheer lace accents.

After seeing Nocturnal Animals, I’m even more obsessed with Amy Adams! Naturally, she wore Tom Ford for the evening, accented with Cindy Chao jewelry. Her long-sleeve silver, beaded gown with a plunging neckline was the definition of chic.

Mommy-to-be Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked every bit the supermodel in an Atelier Versace gown with draped shoulders, a crystal-embellished bust, and thigh-high slits. She never disappoints!

Reese Witherspoon flaunted her toned gams in a long-sleeve embellished Michael Kors Fall 2017 LBD which she shortened from the runway’s midi length. I liked the catwalk iteration a bit more, but it’s a stunning dress nonetheless.

The silhouette of Heidi Klum’s black feather Alberta Ferretti gown was absolutely breathtaking.

With her Oscar in tow, Emma Stone accented her on-trend Givenchy slip dress with a pearl-accented blazer. A fun look indeed, but lacking in a bit more glamour for me. But who cares? She won one of the world’s biggest honors!

Alessandra Ambrosio was another one of the night’s party hoppers, donning her second look of the evening from Ralph & Russo Couture. This stunner was an asymmetric corset design with another sexy slit.

The one-shoulder silhouette continued its reign on Diane Kruger, whose Alexandre Vauthier Couture mini dress was absolutely exquisite.

Nina Dobrev wore one of the most coveted looks of the year, clad in a sheer white Christian Dior tulle gown with the iconic French fashion house’s logo straps.

It was all about sustainability for Rooney Mara who chose a plissé ruffle H&M Conscious Collection LWD.

Though Brie Larson was only presenting for the night, she looked like a winner in an emerald Ralph & Russo Couture gown with a thigh-high slit. Hot!

I expected something provocative from Miranda Kerr, but she surprised me in a baby blue Miu Miu floral gown. This was refreshing.

Kate Beckinsale’s sheer embellished Zuhair Murad design with black tulle sleeves was tricky, but the actress executed it perfectly. Like a real fashion girl would.

Old Hollywood glamour with a modern edge was on the agenda for Lily Collins in Elie Saab Couture. Gorgeous!

Michelle Monaghan flaunted her toned abs in a black Brandon Maxwell cutout gown. I would’ve loved a sleek ponytail or chignon to showcase the dress’s shoulder cutouts, but it was a graceful look nonetheless.

Ralph & Russo had quite the night! Hailee Steinfeld was outfitted in a crystal-adorned, sheer halter Couture gown from the brand. So lovely!

Jennifer Aniston got to werk in a black sequin Atelier Versace gown with a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit.

Jessica Biel was dipped in gold for the second time last night, this time going for a bronze metallic and white Ralph Lauren cutout cape gown. Haven’t seen a dress this brilliant in ages!

Another one-shoulder silhouette! Karlie Kloss’s red Naeem Khan gown was simple in form, but sequins and her matching red lips took it to the next level.

Shanina Shaik added some color to her black, sheer panel Kaufmanfranco embellished gown with pink Lorraine Schwartz statement-making earrings and an eye-catching Devi Kroell clutch. I loved this!

Adriana Lima was luminescent in a gold embellished Elisabetta Franchi keyhole gown with a thigh-high slit.

The electric blue shade of Chanel Iman’s Zuhair Murad Couture gown made sure she wasn’t missed at the celebration.

Emily Ratajkowski sizzled in an embellished Jonathan Simkhai gown with a feather hem. It’s clear the designer has real red carpet chops!

Priyanka Chopra’s black Michael Kors Collection design was given that extra shimmer allover sequins.

I lived for Sia’s Giorgio Armani suit! Still unsure how she sees anything at all, but I can dig her commitment to metaphorically staying out of the public eye.

Kat Graham went bold in a colorful Renato Balestra Couture strapless dress. Instant mood-lifter!

Who had your favorite look at the party? Stay tuned as we update with all of the looks from the celebration!

On the Scene: The 89th Annual Academy Awards with Viola Davis in Armani Privé, Ava DuVernay in Ashi Studio Couture, Taraji P. Henson in Alberta Ferretti, and More!

The 89th Annual Academy Awards is underway and Mahershala Ali and Viola Davis have already picked up awards! Couture was flowing on the red carpet and naturally, the fashion was on high.

Let’s kick off the glamorous night’s looks!

An edgy haircut and red halter Armani Privé gown with a cascading train and draped shoulders were on the style agenda for Viola Davis. Ravishing!

Ava DuVernay was regal in a grey lace Ashi Studio Couture stunner. Of course the already-legendary filmmaker would bring the drama.

Taraji P. Henson dropped jaws in a midnight velvet Alberta Ferretti piece with a low-cut neckline and thigh-high slit. Easily one of the night’s best dressed!

Janelle Monae sported a pixie cut to complement her breathtaking Elie Saab Couture embellished design with a sheer, bird-embroidered bodice. Certainly not for the faint of heart, but Janelle is really a pro at this.

Ruth Negga was the lady in red in Valentino Couture and a blue ACLU ribbon. She’s been one of my red carpet faves since she came on the scene!

Naomie Harris opted for a shorter length for the evening, clad in a strapless white Calvin Klein by Appointment sequin dress. Simply extraordinary.

Priyanka Chopra’s strapless, geometric Ralph & Russo Couture gown was the epitome of artful magnificence.

Halle Berry was radiant in a one-shoulder, crystal-adorned Atelier Versace gown and voluminous curls.

Pharrell Williams took it back a few seasons in a Chanel tux from the iconic French fashion house’s Fall 2009 collection. There’s literally nothing he can’t look good in.

A red carpet is nothing without a celeb clad in Zuhair Murad. Chrissy Teigen rose to the challenge in a white long-sleeve gown from the brand with an embellished, sheer bodice and sultry slit. Totally here for this.

Oscar winner Mahershala Ali was as handsome as it gets in an all-black Zegna Couture duo. So happy for him!

Though Octavia Spencer normally opts for Tadashi Shoji, she chose a Marchesa feather beaut for the night. Pretty, no?

David Oyelowo was dapper in a Dolce & Gabbana tux. He’s always swoon-worthy!

Salma Hayek upped the romance quotient of the evening in a black Alexander McQueen gown.

First-time Oscar goer and Moana actress Auli’i Cravalho shimmered and sparkled in a strapless Rubin Singer gown. She’s another one to watch.

Michelle Williams’s black and white Louis Vuitton halter gown was a bit plain, thus her pixie and flawless makeup were the real highlights of her look!

Olivia Culpo shimmered and sparkled in a Marchesa x Stella Artois design. Gorgeous, no?

Karlie Kloss looked every bit the supermodel in a white Stella McCartney, one-shoulder cape gown. Hot!

Are you feeling the night’s looks?

Marjorie Harvey, Jason Harvey, and Amanda Harvey Walk in Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2017 Show

It was a family affair for Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2017 season, as mothers, daughters, sons, and babes took to the catwalk at today’s show in Milan. While European royal families and rock music legends were on the roster, the most identifiable faces (for us anyway) were Marjorie Harvey, Jason Harvey, and Amanda Harvey.

The Steve Harvey household took to the runway in fabulous furs, printed coats, and bejeweled sandals, with gorgeous babies looking seriously cherubic in their arms.

Aside from the Harvey’s, it seems Dolce & Gabbana tapped various men and women representing a diversity of sizes, shapes, heights, and ethnicities.

I’m all the way here for it! It’s refreshing to see ‘real people’ rock the runway. And the Harvey’s looked fabulous!
What do you think?

On the Scene: The 2017 Film Independent Spirit Awards with Taraji P. Henson in Giambattista Valli Couture, Kerry Washington in Prada, Ava Duvernay in Gucci, and More!

Before the Oscars went down, the 2017 Film Independent Spirit Awards was many stars’ first stop! Floral prints, mini lengths, eye-catching details, and more were all on display.

Here are the day’s looks in 3…2…1…

Taraji P. Henson was a breath of fresh Spring air in a floral print Giambattista Valli Couture mini dress with a dramatic train. This was fab.

Kerry Washington’s simple Prada LBD was uplifted with crystal embellishment.

Ava Duvernay certainly turned a few heads in a floral print Gucci getup. I wouldn’t be mad if I woke up and found this in my closet.

Naomie Harris flaunted her toned gams in a colorful Chanel dress with a black lace hem. I cannot wait to see what she wears at the Oscars!

Janelle Monae slipped a black and white striped Ferragamo coat over a printed button-front shirt and graphic skirt in the same classic combo, uplifted by L Frank jewels.

Danielle Brooks showcased her curves in an effortless black Urban Zen set. She’s never looked better!

Ruth Negga was a literal gift, choosing a bow-accented Delpozo dress for the occasion. I love her daring style.

Kiersey Clemons couldn’t be missed in a black and white, tiered Prabal Gurung gown. The brand makes the most gorgeous gowns, no?

A navy cutout Fame and Partners gown was on the menu for Issa Rae. She’s been flawless this awards season.

Sasha Lane showed that Black Lives Matter in a Mizizi baseball jersey boasting the truthful phrase and a Louis Vuitton olive skirt suit.

Freida Pinto skewed unexpectedly sultry in a yellow lace Un El Camino illusion gown. Hot!

The timeless LBD was also on the agenda for Trace Lysette who went on-trend and sheer in a lace design from Elisabetta Franchi.

What do you think of the looks at the awards show?

On the Scene: The Charles Finch and Chanel Pre-Oscar Awards Dinner with Janelle Monae and Ruth Negga in Chanel, Deepika Padukone in Duro Olowu, and More!

The Charles Finch and Chanel Pre-Oscars Awards Dinner was star-studded, but you guessed that right? The iconic French fashion house’s looks were all on display for the night on our favorite celebrities.

Let’s get into their looks!

Janelle Monae gave her signature black and white looks a rest, slipping on a metallic tuxedo dress and Christian Louboutin Louloudance Sandals for the evening. I live for her style!

Ruth Negga deserves the award for best red carpet attitude and confidence this season! She literally transforms runway looks by simply putting them on. Case in point: this Chanel Pre-Fall 2017 look.

I loved the way Pharrell paired the house’s edgy Pre-Fall 2017 coat with a Human Made t-shirt, denim, and suede Timberland boots. He always looks so cool!

Deepika Padukone was one of the only guests to not wear a Chanel ensemble, but she did go bold in a lovely Duro Olowu printed dress. Stunning, no?

Priyanka Chopra paired a Resort 2017 tweed mini skirt from the brand with a black collarless tweed blazer and white cropped sweater.

Hailee Steinfeld channeled a bit of Janelle Monae in a rocker chic black and white ‘fit. I would definitely wear this getup!

Last, but certainly not least was Rachel Zoe. She went glam in a champagne-hued gown and cozy fur for the night. She never disappoints.

Who had your favorite look of the evening?

Look of the Week featuring Katy Perry in Adam Selman, Tracee Ellis Ross in Lethicia Bronstein, Viola Davis in Christian Siriano and More!

Hey everyone!

Let’s dive deep into our lovely contenders! So, brace yourselves, because the #BlackGirlMagic is intense this week!

1) Katy Perry in Adam Selman

Katy Perry stepped out for Universal Music Group’s 2017 Brit Awards party in a fresh-off-the-runway Fall 2017 rose-embroidered sheer set by designer extraordinaire Adam Selman. We’re fully aware of the popularity behind the pajama trend so to see celebs rock it so effortlessly is a real treat. Ms. Perry also donned wavy platinum blonde locks, red ankle strap sandals and a fiery red lip to complete her sultry look. Hot!

2) Normani Kordei in House of CB

Earlier this week, Normani Kordei flaunted her toned abs for the ‘Gram in a $195 House of CB ‘Hermosa’ lace collar dress with briefs. The songstress chose simple vibes for her sexy slay as she slipped into a pair of classic strappy sandals. I mean, with a body like that, I’d sashay down the nearest hallway as well!

3) Viola Davis in Christian Siriano

Now, among all things that I love about my dark melanin skin, wearing bright colors has to be one of my favorite perks. There’s just something about a chocolate queen in bold hues that speaks to me and Viola Davis is the prime example! For Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood Awards, the How to Get Away with Murder actress shimmered in a custom bright pink gown by Christian Siriano, soft curls and a berry lip. The Queen of the Silver Screen also kept her accessories to a minimum. Take notes because this is how you (elegantly) shut it down!

4) Celine Dion in Schiaparelli

It’s official: celebrity stylist Law Roach is a genius! After swooning over his impeccable work with Zendaya Coleman, he has branched off to collaborate with other A-list stars including the legendary Celine Dion. At a recent Las Vegas appearance for the unveiling of her new bag collection, the Canadian bombshell uplifted a Schiaparelli Spring 2017 Couture ivory heart-embellished short suit and textured red over-the-knee boots. Although this look is flawlessly tailored, it’s also loads of fun and light-hearted. How gorg is she?

5) Jane Fonda in Versace

An ageless Jane Fonda posed for the awaiting cameras at the 2017 Costume Guild Awards in a Versace Fall 2016 Couture gown. The actress/former model’s ‘fit also includes a dramatic single off-the-shoulder accent, satin pastel blue detailing and a chic train. When I first spotted her on my Instagram timeline, all I could think was, “Yes, Jane! You betta werk!”

6) Tracee Ellis Ross in Lethicia Bronstein

Tracee Ellis Ross also made an appearance at Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood Awards last night! The multitalented leading lady captured our hearts in a sheer blush pink Lethicia Bronstein number that boasts an on-trend ruffle collar, a tiered hem and long sleeves. Abstract gold hoop earrings, metallic pumps and a structured clutch completed her eccentric look. Love it!

7) Ashley Madekwe in Johanna Ortiz

Ring My Bell blogger/actress Ashley Madeke was on hand for the Vanity Fair x L’Oreal’s  Young Hollywood party in Los Angeles in an multicolored Johanna Ortiz Resort 2017 printed ruffle jumpsuit. Ashley’s style is always clean, fresh and whimsical so this pick was the perfect choice for her night out on the town.

Whew! Tough week, no?

Fashion Bomber of the Day: Darrius from Washington, DC

Happy Friday!  Today’s Fashion Bomber is Darrius from DC:

He writes, “Hello, my name is Darrius and I currently reside in Washington, DC. My style would be described, by myself, as  an evolving style. I don’t engage much in popular trends because I enjoy setting myself apart from the masses.”

Although, every now and then I’ll adopt a small trend. Currently I am inspired by those such as Lenny Kravitz, Miguel, 2-3 guys I follow on Instagram, Saint Laurent (Hedi Slimane), and vintage looks with my own personal touch.

I love playing around with different textures, patterns, monochromatic colors. I have an obsession with boots. If I could wear them everyday I would. Soon as I get to the point in my career where I can buy Saint Laurent boots on a frequent basis…I will do so. (Keeping it real). Almost there! Blessings!

Feelin’ your style, Darrius!

Keep up with him on Instagram, @DJackstyles.
