The present is pretty good for Virgil Abloh and the future looks even better. His Off-White brand has been catapulted into the sartorial stratosphere, there are rumors that he may be Givenchy’s next designer, and fashion icon Raf Simons even shaded him in a recent interview. His Fall 2017 collection demonstrated just how much Abloh has evolved thus far and that the possibilities are endless when it comes to the fate of his brand.
Bella Hadid opened the show in a collar-to-toe plaid getup—the kind you’d actually see her wearing while out and about. The timeless patterned continued on roomy coats, high-waist mini skirts, on-trend bandeaus, expertly-tailored suiting, and more.
Abloh played with the on-trend thigh-high slit, accenting sheer, red carpet-ready frocks paired with thigh-high boots, high-waist pencil skirts, and sexy strapless dresses.
If you don’t already own a crop jacket, that’s fine: Abloh gives you plenty here. Whether in denim or silk satin, the pieces had an 80’s and early 90’s flair, without feeling unabashedly retro.
Velvet is the texture of the moment, so it was no surprise to see the brand play with it on the runway in a gorgeous blue, crushed iteration. Utilitarian jackets, mini dresses, functional shells, a tuxedo-inspired dress, and high-waist mini skirt all featured the on-trend fabric.
Lace detailing spoke to the boudoir and the red carpet—sure to catch the eye of the brand’s growing legion of fans including Yara Shahidi, Karlie Kloss, and Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin.
We’ve come to the end of another productive week and it’s time to let our hair down as we ease into our brunch-filled weekends. As far as fashion goes, the past few days have been a whirlwind of consistent celebrity slayage but, as we all know, there can be only one fashionista who reigns supreme!

Ciara and her baby bump were spotted on the scene at Vanity Fair’s 2017 Academy Awards after party in a plush red velvet gown by Jovani. The figure-skimming number also includes a U-shaped plunging neckline, long sleeves and a tailored hem. Queen CiCi accented her glamorous look with a gem-encrusted statement choker, platinum streaked locks and flawless makeup. Hot!
Whenever Tracee Ellis Ross makes an appearance, you’d better believe she comes to slay! In her latest turn-up at the 25th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 2017 Oscars viewing party, the actress donned a Yanina Couture Spring 2017 white tiered fringe detail dress, diamond drop earrings and a sleek low bun. Tracee’s spirit just seems so genuine and positive; therefore, it shines through in everything she wears. And, this cream-drenched pick was perfect for such a legendary soiree!
Congratulations are in order for Ms. Fenty as she was recently named the Harvard Foundation’s Humanitarian of the Year! The stunning superstar is making some serious strides as also being the first female singer to ever receive the prestigious honor. It must be that #BlackGirlMagic, right? For the monumental occasion, RiRi kept it cute and conservative in a gray Monse Fall 2017 off-the-shoulder belted dress and matching over-the-knee stiletto boots. The ultra-chic pick also flashes a tiny hint of thigh and loads of clavicle. Work, work, work, work, work, work!
Last night, our girl Chrissy Teigen was on hand for the Los Angeles premiere of Disney’s highly-anticipated film Beauty and the Beast. While the television personality’s unpredictable Reisa & Vanessa Fall 2017 burgundy embellished fringe dress received mixed reviews, we adored every moment! The entire look is perfection: from the highlights of the deep makeup to the intricacy of the geometric detailing, Chrissy threw us all a swift curveball and proved that taking risks are always necessary in style evolution.
Style connoisseur Janelle Monae was also in attendance for Vanity Fair’s 2017 Academy Awards after party! The Hidden Figures leading lady continued to drop jaws everywhere as she slipped into an edgy mesh detail high-slit gown from Alexandre Vauthier‘s Fall 2016 Couture presentation. With an impeccable pixie cut and towering metallic peep-toe platforms, this electric lady left us all craving more. Love it!
Ruffles are certainly making a comeback, no? Lil Mama rocked her take on the spring trend as she stepped out for Floyd Mayweather’s 40th birthday celebration in a polka dot GM Studio LA pussy-bow tie blouse, a white ruffled Folie a Duex skirt and classic Saint Laurent sandals. Styled by the dope Michael Mann, it looks like we have a new style star on the rise.
And, of course, what Look of the Week post would be complete without an appearance by the incomparable J to the Lo! The multitalented bombshell stopped the world in its tracks at the Season 2 premiere of her hit show Shades of Blue in a shimmery Zuhair Murad Spring 2017 embellished two-piece set which boasts a deep neckline, peplum detailing and a clean silhouette. Jennifer Lopez is known for her eye-catching fashion aesthetic and it’s always a delight to see her have fun with her frocks.
What do you think of the contenders? In your opinion, which fashion stars soared and which ones fell flat?
Blue was the starting and ending point of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s inspiration for Dior’s Fall 2017 collection. The designer was inspired by this famous quote from Christian Dior in A Little Dictionary of Fashion: “Among all colors, navy blue is the only one which can ever compete with black, it has all the same qualities.” The moody hue rendered itself in a slew of chic iterations of the signatures the iconic French fashion house has become synonymous with.
Leather berets accented each look: equal parts classic Parisian style and the emblem of the resistance.
Hemlines were long and waists were cinched for a healthy dose of retro-inspired flair, though ensembles were often anchored with leather combat boots for that tough edge.
The house’s takes on timeless denim felt fresh and functional including boyfriend fits, classic cuffs, wide legs, adorable overalls, and pairings with practical pieces like tie-waist hoodies.
Checks and a magical, celestial print rounded out the collection’s patterns on cozy double-breasted coats, thigh-grazing skirts, wearable trousers, and charming velvet frocks.
This was one of the most approachable Dior assortments I’ve ever seen. The drama was still there, but pieces like fur capes and chunky knits felt like the kind of pieces any woman would like to own, no matter her style proclivities.
Rihanna, Diane Kruger, and Emma Watson are all fans of the brand and they will absolutely be wearing the collection’s sheer, flirty dresses in the coming months. A ruffle neckline design with a transparent skirt could absolutely speak to the Bajan’s beauty coquettish side and a blue sequin frock would be the perfect piece for Watson’s Beauty and the Beast promo tour.

At this point, there is nothing suggestive about Olivier Rousteing’s designs for Balmain. His signatures are in-your-face, bold, and extreme designs that people either love or hate—but quite frankly we’ve found way more of the former than the latter. His Fall 2017 collection for the iconic French fashion house brimmed with embellishment, its trademark animal prints, and a cast of supermodels that few in the industry can muster. And it seems the inspiration was two-fold, as the designer was just as inspired by the 90’s-inspired threads of his model lineup, as they are by his red carpet and off-duty perfect designs.
“I was just a kid during Nirvana’s heyday, but their powerful music of rebellion definitely marked me then—and continues to resonate with me today,” stated Rousteing in the show’s notes, as reported by Refinery 29. “Those liberating lyrics advised us to ignore guidelines of what’s expected and remain true to ourselves. It’s that same mindset that propels today’s strong women as they march down the runway. They’ve embarked on the perfect road trip, picking up influence while traveling across the globe’s most awe-inspiring landscapes—the Serengeti, the Far West, Amazonia.”
And the fauna of the globe’s every corner were on display, with zebra print cap-sleeve dusters, kimono-style jackets crafted from cow-print calf hair, and python skin boots. PETA will definitely not be pleased with this assortment.
That grunge inspiration came through in tie-dye pieces and graphics—including those truck stop wolf-motif t-shirts that most of us would never be caught dead wearing. I was slightly amused by their appearance, but they did not at all feel like Balmain. One can only wonder how much they will sell for when they come to retail…
Accessories were also present and boy were they luxe. In the show notes, Rousteing stated, “While working on the recent re-launch of our accessories line, pouring over the house archives, I was reintroduced to Pierre Balmain’s mastery of beautiful, similar patterns, and inevitably channelled that into today’s offerings”. He continued, “That is not the only thread of continuity, of course. As always, our pride in being one of Paris’ historic houses is front and centre, with our atelier’s prowess reflected in intricate embroideries, one-of-a-kind constructions, and remarkable leatherwork. That same finesse is evident in the new creations from our accessories collection. They form part of one coherent, indivisible whole – reflecting both the historic Balmain DNA and today’s spirit of youth, freedom and rebellion – while accompanying our army on its perfect roadtrip of liberation and discovery.”
Every single best dressed celebrity has pretty much worn Balmain now, so it’s anyone’s game when it comes to the showstopping, red carpet-ready looks on display. A sheer, long-sleeve striped turtleneck crop top and matching jumpsuit look like just the things for Rihanna, while a python print, calf hair zip-accented mini dress would be perfect for Jennifer Lopez and her enviable legs.
