NYFW: Kim Shui’s Fall 2024 Collection Honors the ‘Year of the Dragon’ with Vibrant Hues and Bold SIlhouettes

Original, eccentric, and unconventional would best describe Kim Shui’s Fall ’24 collection that debuted at the Irving Plaza Friday evening, highlighting the ‘Year of the Dragon’ in honor of Lunar New Year.

Consisting of 34-designs, we saw many dragon like components in her designs including the use of leather, snakeskin, and architectural silhouettes. Shui remained on brand with her use of lace, mix on prints, and incorporation of fur.

She also took a playful turn with bold colors like lime green and hot pink, playing with sleeves that wrapped around the arm and legs, and adding textural gloves where she saw fit.

There were no shortage of eye-catching accessories, and models looked vastly different with their Poppy Lissiman and Akila sunglasses. Not to mention, the strappy and fur heels that added the perfect avant-garde touch.

NYFW: Christian Siriano Fall/Winter ’24 Collection Runway Show Combined Glamour, Sci-Fi, and Modernity

Season after season, Christian Siriano continues to surprise us with calculated risks, and in his latest Fall/Winter 2024 collection he reimagined glamour in such a brilliant and captivating way.

Inspired by the 1965 novel and subsequent films, ‘Dune’, Siriano opted for futurism, as he re-envisioned what evening wear would look like in a sci-fi, apocalyptic desert.

Think vibrant burnt orange and red hues, liquid metallics and black shimmering tinsel gracing models frame as they strutted down the runway at the Plaza Hotel in New York city.

As an apprentice to some of the greats like the late Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen during his earlier years as a designer, Siriano developed a signature brand of his own that quickly gained popularity among the masses.

In keeping with the essence of our Siriano custom, the Fall/Winter collection balances power and strength with soft, romantic elegance.” Said Siriano in a press release.

During the runway show, his vision felt more forward this season with statement pieces in full overload that we could definitely see on the red-carpet or at the Met Gala.

Supermodel Coco Rocha, who has been the quintessential poster girl for Siriano , looked absolutely exquisite in a white silk gown that had a tulle ruffled top that was over the top. The gold foil accents in her hair felt ethereal and added a modern dimension to evening elegance.

In attendance at his show included our Fashion Bomb daily CEO, Claire Sulmers who wore a beautiful custom Christian Siriano ensemble, Alicia Silverstone,  Sophia Bush, Ashlee Simpson, Busy Philipps, and so many more.

Fashion News: CFDA President CaSandra Diggs Has Officially Resigned from her Executive Position

In August 2020, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) announced CaSandra Diggs as the President of their Organization, and after 3 years of being at the helm, Diggs has chosen to resign from her executive role.

The news comes at interesting time with black history month and fashion week in progress, and has certainly caused speculation about what transpired, or influenced Diggs decision.

With over two decades of serving as the CFDA Chief Administrative and Financial Officer, and then being promoted to President by the excellence she embodied, her future with the CFDA looked promising.

In a statement released yesterday evening, the CFDA told WWD,

“The CFDA and CaSandra Diggs have parted ways. We appreciate her service and wish her the best in future pursuits. The organization’s continued focus is on our mission to support and strengthen American fashion by amplifying creative excellence, business longevity, and positive impact. We have no additional comment at this time.”

It’s important to note that when Diggs initially accepted her role, we were in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter Movement.

According to the New York Times, “On June 1 2020, Tom Ford, the chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America wanted the board to address the Black Lives Matter protests against racial injustice, and systemic racism in the fashion industry. ” A statement from the CFDA was released 2 days later that stated,

“Having a clear voice and speaking out against racial injustice, bigotry and hatred is the first step, but this is not enough,” it read, listing four initiatives to follow. Those included an employment program charged with placing black talent in all sectors of the fashion business to help achieve a racially balanced industry.

Although many organizations like the CFDA made a pledge to promote more diversity in the fashion industry, after the BLM movement died down, so did their pursuit to be more inclusive. It’s almost like it was a trend to amplify black voices of marginalized groups until it wasn’t.  Fast forward to today, and there’s still a lack of black representation in the fashion industry.

Our Fashion Bomb daily readers chimed in on instagram regarding the news. @Tndivaesq wrote, “Baby, the post-pandemic racial reckoning is ending with warp speed.” While @fancyfrancois expressed, “It’s feeling like they stressed me out, so I have to do what’s best for my mental health🤦‍♀️.”

We were certainly rooting for Diggs as seeing women of color like her at the top is often scarce and limited. However, who’s to say what trials and tribulations she endured due to simply being a minority.

Despite Diggs resignation, we’re still advocating for her and wish her the absolute best in her next endeavors.

Endless entertainment, with enchanting performances and engaging speeches, the 66th Annual Grammy awards held at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles Sunday evening was everything and more!

Having grown up amidst the dynamic energy of Edo state, specifically in the renowned Benin City, Nigeria, Osemekhian’s formative years were an immersive experience in the rhythmic beats of Nigerian culture. This eclectic symphony laid the foundation for his future creative pursuits.

As the founder and creative director of OOJCOUTURE, Osemekhian takes a distinctive route by seamlessly blending the allure of Nigerian traditional attire with a contemporary twist, challenging the norms of conventional fashiion. On the Scene: The 2024 15 Percent Pledge Gala Featuring Kelly Rowland in Benchellal, Jordyn Woods in Harbison.Studio, Claire Sulmers in Matopeda, Aurora James in Christopher John Rogers and More!

Held in Los Angeles for the first time ever, the third annual 15 Percent Pledge gala brilliantly captured black excellence in all of its glory as celebs gathered inside of Paramount Studios.

Founded by Creative Director and Activist Aurora James, the pledge is a call for retailers to implement diversity and inclusion by contributing 15% percent of their shelve space to Black owned brands. According to their website, “with over 28 retailers, they’ve been able to shift almost $14B of revenue to Black-owned businesses.”

Companies like Nordstrom, Sephora, Vogue and Bloomingdales are among businesses to pledge, and the list continues to grow.

Fashion Bomb CEO, Claire Sumers arrived to the ‘black tie black designer‘ extravaganza in a Matopeda gown that was sent all the way from Nigeria. You’ll also be pleased to know that the Matopeda’s collection is available at FashionBombdailyshop.com.

Claire caught up with some of the brightest stars in the industry including the beautiful Kelly Rowland who looked stunning in hues of chocolate and hints of gold.

The ‘Coffee” singer wore a Mohamed Benchellal gown that had a unique structure and modern silhouette. We live for a bob haircut on Kelly and she didn’t disappoint. Her gold statement earrings and lioness rings were the perfect finishing touches.

Actress, Tracey Ellis Ross also opted for brown tones in a Fear of Gold fur coat that was stenched in with a leather belt, and paired with mocha colored Saint Laurent heels.

The woman of the hour, Aurora James opted for a Christopher John Rogers look that included a cream cropped blouse that had a teal 3D flower, to go with the matching avant-garde skirt. She looked incredible with her teal scrappy sandals and Bulgari jewels that perhaps exuded wealth and royalty.

Similar to Aurora James, Jordyn Woods also chose to go with neutrals, this time with Los Angeles based designer Harbison.Studio. Her multi-colored buttons down her dress was a nod to Harbison’s signature, and her black gloves gave us “black-tie realness.”

The Woods took selfies with Claire who they had the pleasure of hanging out with during Paris Fashion week last September.

Aurora’s right hand partner, Emma Grede who is the Chairwoman of the 15-percent Pledge and the Co-founder of Good American slayed in a black Aliette blazer dress that had a 3D organza rose down the side.

Grede welcomed attendees including model Ashley Graham who showed off her beautiful curves in an emerald green sequins and feathered gown that was characterized with cutouts.

Sabrina Idris kept things simple yet refined and polished in a Kwame Adusei maxi dress with pointy toe stilettos and a black mini bag.

Media Personality Angela Rye glistened in a gold Dolce & Gabbana look that had a built in corset bodice and felt futuristic.

Also in attendance was Mielle Organics CEO, Monique Rodriguez who illuminated in a Christopher Rogers dress that had colorful dimensions and paired exceptionally well with her Judith Leiber clutch.

The 15 Percent Pledge is a very important cause to ensure the major retailers make a commitment to showcase African American brands that aren’t always given equal opportunity to flourish due to systematic racism.

It’s emplaced to make sure that the companies and stores we shop at are to doing their due diligence to help facilitate inclusiveness, which is why this is an nonprofit organization that we stand behind and so should you.

When it game down to her beat and glam, we gave her 10’s across the board. Her make-up artist, Alexander Exheverri did such a fantastical job with playing with browns and neutrals, highlighting her face to a T.

Fashion Bomb Music Video: Megan Thee Stallion Released Her Song ‘HISS’ with Designs by Natalia Fedner, Matthew Reisman, Buerlangma + More

I’m finna get this sh*t off my chest and lay it to rest, let’s go” rapped Megan Thee Stallion in the intro of her viral song “HISS” that debuted Friday, coming in at #1 on the music charts.

The snake themed music video by the Houston Hottie has already amassed over 6 million views on Youtube, reaching critical acclaim for its stunning visuals, exceptional wardrobe looks, and Meg’s fiery bars.

Wherever there’s smoke, there’s fire and Megan’s lyrics didn’t fall on deaf ears. Hitting on different topics, such as Tina Snow, Megan’s Law, BBL’s and her rival opponent, Nicki Minaj, she certainly ruffled a few feathers.

One thing for certain, is that Megan Thee Stallion strategically executed this music video, and the captivating looks she served, left us glued to our screens yearning for more.

Her cover art was a sight to behold with a white python snake rapped around her neck as she posed in a red fishnet Buerlangma dress. Styled by Zerina Akers, Megan kept things monochromatic with red earrings and a lined lip which compliment her china bags and curved sideburns.

In another look, the ‘HISS’ rapper delivered unique sensuality in a black LRS NYC dress that had intricate and revealing cutouts. She completed her avant-garde look with Stuart Weitzman heels, and a black custom Sarah Sokol Millinery feather hat that stole the show.

The outfit changes were endless, and in constant rotation. As she rapped in front of multiple vintage TV screens, resembling an 80’s aesthetic, the Houston native gave ultra sex appeal.

Designer Matthew Reisman is to thanks for Meg’s custom silver bell bottom pants and sequin denim set. Her acid wash denim felt on trend with the set design as she posed and unapologetically bared the backside of her bum.

Fans and media outlets alike praised Megan all weekend long for coming correct. On Fashion Bomb Daily’s Instagram page, user @Kebathemua wrote, “She went off 😂 idc idc idc 🔥🔥🔥 bravo Meg! You did what needed to be done.” While @thiquegirlgen wrote, “Killed every look 🔥🔥🔥🔥.”

Another user @Theshelahmarie expressed, “She went independent and brought Tina Snow back!!!!!!” If you recall back in October 2023, Megan Thee Stallion announced that she was officially an independent artist. In December, she inked a deal with Warner Music Group for distribution and services to have more leverage.

She also illuminated with a custom Laurel Dewitt elongated crystal neck piece. Celebrity Stylist, Zerina Akers paired her layered diamond necklaces with silver metallic flare pants that felt cohesive with her silver platinum blonde stands.

There’s no doubt that Megan’s new music video ‘HISS’ started 2024 off with a bang. She wasn’t afraid to let it all out and push the envelope, which in our book, definitely makes her one of Hip Hop’s MVP’s.

It’s also great to see how Megan Thee Stallion has evolved since her 2019 hit single “Hot Girl Summer,” to now and if this is any indication of what’s to come, she’ll definitely be soaring high on the billboard charts.
