Throwback Thursdays #TBT: The Style Evolution of Mel B

The mid to late 90’s were interesting years to say the least. Pop music became a worldwide phenomenon, and the sensation that is the Spice Girls took the world by storm. Platinum albums, sold out shows, dolls, and movies, they broke records all in the name of girl power. Thankfully, one of our faves from the group is still going strong delivering look after look as she co-judges two of the most watched talent shows on television. Today, it’s all about Mel B, formerly known as Scary Spice, and we wouldn’t “wanna” have it any other way.
Mel B has always been the fearless one of the bunch, especially when it comes to fashion. During the Spice Girls era, she sported lots of high voltage, midriff bearing looks. Leather, metallic separates and touches of leopard print were often the menu for her. Paired with funky platforms and her signature curly ‘fro, she was an immediate standout.

Though the group disbanded many moons ago, Mel B has stood the test of time and has made a major name for herself in the entertainment industry. As one of the judges of America’s Got Talent and X Factor, to say she keeps a busy schedule is an understatement. Despite it all, she manages to turn out flawless looks everytime she steps out.

For daytime, a good pair of jeans, a crisp jacket and Louboutins tend to be her steeze, but she’s not one to be pigeonholed. When it’s all business, you’ll know.
I mean, who else can look this fabulous while toting two coffee cups while teetering in stilettos? Dainty blouses paired with pencil skirts and fabulous sunglasses skew a slightly more serious Mel, until she flashes that inviting smile
For the red carpet, the glam hits astronomical levels. Gorgeous strapless gowns with thigh-grazing slits showcase her toned legs. Jumpsuits and minidresses hug her curves perfectly as though they were another layer of skin. Simply tasteful and gorgeous.
Even after more than twenty years in the business, Mel B’s style has transcended from bold and sassy to demure and polished, but so on trend and eye catching. So here’s to this week’s throwback. May the Scary Spice Halloween costumes never fizzle out. And here’s hoping Mel B’s style influences us all to spice up our lives.

Beauty Crush Wednesday: Christina Milian

Blazing the music scene and movie screen in the early 200’s, this week’s beauty crush doesn’t look a day older than when her sexy music video for the single “Dip It Low” premiered. Since then, Christina Milian has been pretty occupied launching her We Are Pop Culture, clothing line, a line of moscato via Viva Diva Wines, and being an amazing mother to her adorable daughter, Violet. Given all the things she has on her plate, it’s a wonder she manages to look to flawless all the time.

When it comes to makeup, C. Milli often maintains a natural look with a bit of bronzer. Sometimes, a neutral gloss and a touch of foundation is all she needs.

But every now and then, she loves to spice up her look with ravishing reds or plum/berry hues to frame her infectious smile.   She usually goes for tame looks as far as eyeshadows are concerned, but when she does a smokey eye, it’s sultry and smoldering. Hot!

As for her hair, Christina’s done it all! From blonde to bronze to red, her experimentation with hair color rarely steers her wrong as each shade compliments her complexion seamlessly.

Not to mention she loves to throw us a curve ball with different styles. Natural curls, to short and wavy to long, full and voluminous, and even braids that look like they belong on the cover of Hype Hair, is there anything she hasn’t done and executed?

So here’s to this week’s pick, Christina Milian! We love ogling all her looks on Instagram @christinamilian) and look forward to more slayage in 2017!

Claire’s Life: A Stop by Insecure’s Season 2 Set with Issa Rae, Melina Matsoukas, and Jay Ellis

Happy Wednesday!
I’m still in LA, living it up!
Yesterday, I had the distinct pleasure of stopping by Insecure’s Season 2 Set. I said hey to Issa Rae, Jay Ellis, and director Melina Matsoukas.

I was cheesing from ear to ear because I’m a huge fan of the show! I wasn’t able to take any pix behind the scenes or catch any juicy Season 2 details, but you know they’re going to bring the fire and fun. I was impressed by how big of a production it was–and the attention to detail. I was also just proud to be in the midst of so much brilliance and black girl magic!

For the day, I wore a sparkly romper from Meow and Barks boutique (sold out).

I accessorized with a gold belt, Hanifa Zoila sandals, and Quay sunglasses.

Afterwards, I popped by the PLT party (read the recap here).
I actually walked the carpet, but guess I’m not poppin enough to make the final cut just yet!

All good!
Today, I’m interviewing designer Sergio Hudson; tomorrow we are shooting with singer Mario and then having a DSquared2 Party! Then I’m off to San Francisco for Cocktails with Claire.
It’s been a whirlwind, but it’s always a blessing. Keep it locked right here for updates.

Fashion News: Louis Vuitton Collaborates with Famed Artist Jeff Koons on The Masters Collection

After the incredible buzz about Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with Supreme, the iconic French fashion house is back at it again, with a partnership that continues its synergy with the art world. For its latest limited accessories assortment, it is working with none other than famed pop artist Jeff Koons.

Inspired by Koons’s “Gazing Ball” series, the names and artworks of Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Titian, Rubens, and Fragonard are transposed onto the house’s timeless silhouettes including the Neverfull, Speedy, Keepall and more. It’s also another first for the brand as their classic LV logo was adapted to include Koons’s initials.

Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, and Stephen Sprouse are some of the big-name artists Louis Vuitton has worked with in the past, thus the Koons announcement is no surprise. Retailing from $585 to $4,000, our coins will definitely be on the line for this one. They’re certainly way cheaper than an actual piece of art from Koons.

This is also just the first stage of the collaboration between the house and Koons, thus we cannot wait to see what comes next. Mark your calendars for April 28th, as that is when the collection launches. But it will not be available online, so also figure out where your closest Louis Vuitton store is located!
