Throwback Thursdays #TBT: The Style Evolution of Rita Ora

Cover after cover, shoot after shoot, and carpet after carpet, this Albanian/British import has been the hot button topic of many a conversation when it comes to her style.  Singer, actress and personality, Rita Ora, makes it a mission to turn a few heads: in doing so, landing her atop a myriad of best dressed lists.  With a slew of designers who yearn to dress her and her innate sense of style, she rarely, if ever, disappoints.
During Rita’s introduction to the music scene, her style was reflective of her sound.  Fun, young, and energetic, crop tops, sneakers, and quirky printed bodycon dresses exemplified her aesthetic at the time.
But like any other woman, a classic LBD goes a long way.  Head full of bouncy curls, a vivid lip, and strings of necklaces leveled up Rita’s classic looks back then.
Rita eventually started taking a few risks, wearing designers like Jeremy Scott for fun, chain-linked embellished pieces and Alexandre Vauthier for more saucy, slinky selections that showcase a whole lotta leg.
And can we take a moment to ogle her Met Gala moments?  In 2014, she wore a beautifully embroidered champagne colored Donna Karan Atelier gown.
Vera Wang’s silver gown festooned with feathers slayed in 2016.

And this year’s stunner: a red, braided mermaid Marchesa gown with an elegant, oversized bow perched on the shoulder was the the talk of the town.As for her street style, Rita loves playing with layers, textures and prints more these days.  Leather dresses, oversized longline blazers and bomber jackets worn as dresses speak to he affinity for mixing athleisure with glam accoutrements.
The style star doesn’t stop when the sun goes down either.  Rita loves to paint the town red at dusk in bustier tops paired with tailored trousers, dainty tiered lace dresses, or a sexy sheer skirt.
Rita’s obvious love for fashion and streetwear landed her a sweet collaboration with Adidas to design several collections of vibrant, printed street and athletic wear for women.  It’s no surprise to see her rocking a few pieces from her own collection when she’s out and about in Londontown or catching an early morning flight.

Here’s to a girl who truly loves to experiment with style.  Rita enjoys taking calculated risks and keeps onlookers gawking, excited to see what she’ll sport next.  Hot off the heels of hosting America’s Next Top Model’s latest season and filming in the box office hit 50 Shades Darker, we’re excited to see what else is in store for her this year!

Lifetime Achievement Honoree Debbie Allen was flanked by her gorgeous daughter and handsome husband. What a beautiful family.

Lisa Ling went bold in a cobalt ruched gown. Nice to see her on the red carpet!

Shaun Robinson kept it simple and chic in a black Ramy Brook v-neck gown.

Jessica Parker Kennedy also kept it pared-down yet pretty, though her long-sleeve dress had a lace neckline. Hot!

Clearly, a woman can never go wrong in a great all-black ensemble! Beverly Bond chose a tuxedo-inspired, floor length number with a thigh-high slit.

Chrissy Metz shimmered and sparkled in a navy sequin stunner.

Fashion News: Kanye West Plans to Design Uniforms for Calabasas High

Over the weekend, rumors spread that Kanye West is looking into transforming Calabasas High School’s athletic wear and mascot name.

So far, only a phone call and link up occurred between Yeezy’s team and the president of CHS which was considerably a “low-level meeting.

Las Virgenes Unified School District Superintendent, Dan Stepenosky spoke with AM 570 LA Sports Lunchtime about any truth to the partnership, even the $20 million tradeoff supposedly in the works but they’re still awaiting a proposal.

Stepenosky said, “There seems to be a lot more rumors than actual facts.” First, “$20 million is not accurate.” Second, “We received no proposal. We really don’t have anything to respond to.”

Rumor has it West also wants to change the school’s mascot name from Coyotes to Wolves. Stepenosky says it’s really not up for debate as the Alumnae classes will “lose their mind.” Although he did speak to CHS students and they would highly accept a celebrity icon to change the team name.

But what’s interesting about the uniform takeover the Yeezy Team wants is the similarities in the fashion realm.

Coincidentally, Adidas already has a partnership with CHS chscoyotefootball, so it’s a no brainer that the rapper/designer wants to collaborate since Adidas partner’s with Yeezy’s line as well.

Also, the mogu,l who lives in Calabasas with many highly acclaimed celebrities, already dropped a Calabasas inspired collection in March. And more recently, Kanye dropped a 1980’s throwback Adidas shoe called: “Adidas Yeezy Powerphase.”

The latest shoe was released on June 4th on Adidas.com, but is currently sold out and only can be purchased at third party retailers like Kixify for double the price or more from it’s original selling at $120.

Much of Yeezy’s Calabasas line has a sporty appeal, with labeling vertically and/or horizontally across reading “Calabasas.” It already proves there’s some school pride involved as the Ready-to-Wear collection is currently sold out at Yeezy Supply which says a lot about most fortunate millennials of Calabasas.

The only thing the collection is truly missing if it were to cater to CHS uniform policy is its black and gold school colors. The maroon, black and navy blue apparel definitely separates from what may determine what the alleged future athletic gear may consist of, but maybe that’s just what the school needs.

Beauty Crush Wednesday: Nyakim Gatwech

Typically a space for the beauties that dominate Tinsletown, this week, we’re shining a light on a model whose beauty transcends the exterior.  South Sudanese/Minnesota based model Nyakim Gatwech has been making waves across the blogosphere, and it’s not hard to see why.
With skin as dark and flawless as a polished obsidian stone, Nyakim glows in just about any color.  And being a makeup enthusiast allows her room to play with vivid colors.  Bright blues, reds, and yellows pop against her smoldering complexion, especially when paired with bold colored clothing.
Even in printed designs, the patterns don’t overwhelm her look and compliment her skin tone so beautifully.   Despite slaying photoshoot after photoshoot, however, the 24 year old has been on the receiving end of some ridiculous questions and comments as it relates to her skin.  She recounted an exchange with an Uber driver earlier this year.

“I was (asked by) my Uber driver the other day, he said, ‘Don’t take this offensive but if you were given 10 thousand dollars would you bleach your skin for that amount?’”

Her response?  A guttural laugh that pretty much answered his question with a resounding ” hell no!”
In a world still motivated by European beauty standards, Nyakim unabashedly goes against the grain, grateful for the “melanin God blessed her with.”  Though she has admitted the thought of lightening her skin crossed her mind a few years ago, the negative and harmful effects of the skin lightening process didn’t seem as appealing anymore.  She eventually became comfortable in her own skin, and that comfort turned into confidence. Now boasting over 100,000 Instagram followers, Nyakim (@queenkim_nyakim) feels it’s her duty to be a beacon of hope and a pillar of inspiration for women who still struggle with skin-positivity and self-acceptance.  For that, and literally laughing in the face of privileged ignorance, we salute Nyakim!

On the Scene: The 2017 Glamour Women of the Year Awards with Jourdan Dunn in Ermanno Scervino, Jennifer Hudson in A.W.A.K.E., Winnie Harlow, and More!

Another night, another awards show! Across the pond in London, Glamour threw its Women of the Year Awards with our favorite British beauties, stylish songstresses, models, and more in attendance.

Let’s get into their looks!

Jourdan Dunn was the lady in red, clad in a long-sleeve sheer lace Ermanno Scervino gown in the fiery hue with a plunging neckline, thigh-high slit, and cropped ‘do to boot. Hot!

Jennifer Hudson gave an artful spin to the classic black and white combo in a strapless A.W.A.K.E. LBD with white contrast, ruffle trim.

Winnie Harlow looked every bit the model in a sheer, star-embellished halter gown with a plunging neckline and feather hem. This was fab!

Alesha Dixon also tried the sheer trend on for size, clad in a floral sequin-embellished Tony Ward Couture jumpsuit with cape-inspired sleeves, a plunging neckline, and flared legs.

Rashida Jones accented her simple, yet chic Erdem lace midi LBD with red lips.

Rochelle Humes layered black high-waist trousers over a black lace bustier-inspired bodysuit. I miss her on the red carpet.

Ella Eyre was a floral dream in a blush and white ruffle dress covered in the flirty print. So darling.

Nicole Kidman upped the romance quotient in a lavender lace, high-neck Erdem gown with long sleeves and contrast black embroidery. He designs the best dresses!

Former One Direction-er Liam Payne repped for the fellas in an expertly-tailored black suit.

Mollie King went bold in a silver sequin-embellished Temperley London dress with colorful embroidery. I liked this!

Former Spice Girl Geri Horner was pared-down, yet pretty in a black halter gown.

Frankie Bridge joined her The Saturdays band mate Rochelle, while slipping on a short-sleeve embellished Celia Kritharioti design.

Ashley James was suited up in a white duo with contrast black trim. She’s slowly, but surely becoming one of my faves!

It was all about prints for Gemma Cairney in a head-turning, tie-waist dress with a sultry slit.

BBC Radio 1 mid-morning show presenter Clara Amfo flaunted her curves in a monochrome red ensemble. I would definitely wear this!

Doctor Who’s
Pearl Mackie paired a black mesh crop top with a high-waist, full cobalt maxi skirt.
