On the Scene: Debra Lee’s Pre-BET Awards Party with Tammy Rivera in Diane von Furstenberg, Tamar Braxton in Dolce & Gabbana, Lil Mama in Dint, and More!

The BET Awards are this Sunday, June 25th! Debra Lee and BET execs celebrated the impending festivities with a pre-party.
Take a look at a few of our faves:

Raise your hand if Real Housewives of Potomac is your guilty pleasure? Cast member Gizelle Bryant shined in a gold sequined mini dress. Her beauty is undeniable.

Fitness guru Jeanette Jenkins showed off her stems in a blue lace jumpsuit.

We’re fans of Justine Skye! The Rocnation crooner wore a digit embellished mini dress from Moschino’s Pre-Fall 2017 collection.

Laz Alonso represented for the fellas in a red accented ensemble.

BET Awards host Leslie Jones kept her look casual in jeans and Gucci sneakers.

Boris Kudjoe was snazzy in a plaid vest and pants combo.

Lil Mama’s new team is on fire! She looked Bomb in a Dint Official dress and Cesare Paciotti sandals.

Mona Scott Young went monochrome in a green set. She looks great!

Remy Ma worked a $1,800 Gucci Web ruffled dress. I would’ve like to have seen this with the original neck ruffle.

Rotimi looked cool in a blue suit and Nike kicks.

Political activist Angela Rye kept it simple in a red shift.

Debra Lee embraced Spring florals in a ruffled number.

BET Executive Connie Orlando sizzled in a Cavalli look and Azzedine Alaia sandals.

Garcelle Beauvais uplifted a navy suit with a Chanel pin.

Tammy Rivera added a red belt to a Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit. She added extra flourish with Dsquared2 accessories. There’s something about this I love.

Bryshere Gray always looks great!

Erika Likes embraced blush tones. I love those pants!

Estelle worked sequins by way of a Julian Clancey gown.

Yandy Smith showed some leg in a high slit creation.

Inside, Tamar Braxton showed her stems in a Dolce & Gabbana LBD and Tom Ford sandals.

French Montana brought up the rear in all white.
Looks like fun times!

Who are you excited to see on the red carpet?

Fashion News: Did Balenciaga Rip Off the Ruff Ryder Logo? Swizz Beatz Seems to Think So

First Gucci copies Dapper Dan for its Spring 2018 collection, and now it seems another designer brand has looked to hip hop for design inspiration. Enter Balenciaga, whose Spring 2018 collection includes a shirt decorated with B’s reminiscent of the Ruff Ryder logo.

Ruff Ryder founding member Swizz Beatz was the first to point the similarity out on Instagram, writing, “@balenciaga we must have a talk about this Ruff Ryder shirt ASAP 🤔 Dapper Dan with Gucci now this 🤔 thoughts ?????? Blessings.” We gotta love Instagram for always calling people out!

A post shared by therealswizzz (@therealswizzz) on

The Ruff Ryder logo features a Robust R, whose descending strokes, if fused together, could look like a B.

We are all inspired by each other, especially in a fluid creative world. But sadly, as we are not on an even playing field, borrowing from the underrepresented ‘minority’ culture without acknowledgement skews predatory.

Now we are left to see if Balenciaga acknowledges their inspiration and decides to work with Ruff Ryders on a capsule (read about Gucci’s atonement here). Or will they just whistle on and conduct business as usual?

Time will tell.
What do you think?

*UPDATE:

Once again, Swizz Beatz took to Instagram, this time to providing the pic of the original Ruff Ryders logo shirt from the year 2000, with the the phrase ‘RUFF RYDERS RYDE OR DIE’ repeatedly emblazoned in red.

Now you be the judge. Did Balenciaga blatantly rip off not only the Ruff Ryders logo, but the entire shirt design?

Thoughts?

Throwback Thursdays #TBT: The Style Evolution of Jay Z

There aren’t many men who can compete with the likes of this week’s throwback. 55 million albums sold worldwide, dubbed one of the greatest MC’s of all time, co-owner of famed New York sports lounge, The 40/40 Club, record label, entertainment company, husband to the greatest entertainer of our generation, and father now three. The world is Shawn “Jay Z” Carter’s oyster.  And with undeniable, yet understated style, we’re sure he’ll have the twins decked out in the crème de la crème of designer baby wear like older sister Blue Ivy.
Jay Z’s look during the start of his music career was a direct reflection of the style of the times. High top fades and gargantuan gold rope chains ornamented with monolithic pendants were all a part of his steeze during the late eighties to early nineties.
The late nineties to early 2000’s gave way to clothes and trends with lots of urban flair. Athletic jerseys, fitted caps, Jordan’s, and Jay’s iconic T-shirt worn as a durag set the tone for a lot of up-and-coming rappers, often paired with accessories like a bold Silver Necklace to complete the look at the time.
Staying true to form, he still rocks a jersey or two to this day, trading in oversized ones for jerseys that do more justice to his frame.
Jay Z soon realized the impact he had on the fashion world, and dove headfirst into creating his own line: Rocawear. And if you weren’t in Rocawear during its peak, were you really on trend?

Jay Z’s casual style these days conveys comfort and practicality, with a touch of humblebrag somewhere in the mix.  Givenchy sweatshirts, jeans and a pair of Timberlands have become somewhat of a staple for him, definitely letting the Timbs speak to his roots as a Brooklynite.
Jay Z’s image transcended once again, mirroring his role as a power player in the world of entertainment, music, and investing. He ushered in an era of custom suits and ties with slimmer silhouettes the likes of Tom Ford and Lanvin.

Jay Z’s swag doesn’t stop on the red carpet or on the street.  He and Beyoncé constantly have onlookers ogling their vacation pics and style.  For Jay, comfort is key when he island hops near the Almalfi Coast.  Luxury sunglasses, striped tees and shorts seem to be the requisites for Jay as he yachts the Mediterranean. If only we can be this cool…and coined.

Not only has Jay Z’s style progressed, but so has his business acumen. From the Marcy Projects to being touted as the second highest earning hip hop artist of all time by Forbes magazine. Feat after feat, Jay has managed to reinvent himself all while staying true to who he is and never losing sight at the end of the tunnell to get to the top. He no longer watches the throne. He sits on it.

These two-strap heeled mule gives off sexy and subtle vibes. The clear strap in the front of the shoe gives off a unique illusion.

A strappy high-heeled mule is for the simple chic lady. It’s not as crystalized like the rest of the collection, but is elegant nonetheless.

The mid-heeled mule is bold in the front, yet peaceful all-around. This shoe is for the woman who doesn’t wear heels often but will slay any day in a short pump.
The collection will be sold in select Manolo Blahnik stores and online.
