Show Review: Tom Ford Spring 2018 Menswear

Tom Ford has literally done it all. He’s been the creative director at both Gucci and YSL. He’s directed two Oscar-nominated films. He’s done see-now, buy-now, shows that combined both womenswear and menswear, and has varied between huge, star-studded runway shows and exclusive showroom presentations. In short: he’s a multi-hyphenate dynamo. And naturally, his Spring 2018 menswear was as chic as polished as ever.

He returned to the classic showroom presentation format this time-around, with his trademark, expertly-tailored suiting on display. Cuffed at the ankle in shades ranging from chocolate to blush, Ford undoubtedly executed what he does best to absolute perfection.

Ford fully intends for the men wearing his brand to swim next Spring, as he presented an array of thigh-baring swim shorts that call for a few rounds of squats.

Denim felt anything but basic, when paired with sumptuous suede and super chic loafers. Hoodies and trainers even got the Ford seasonal treatment.

My favorite ensembles were the most casual pieces—printed blazers, layered henleys, skinnies, calf hair jackets. If you’re spending your coins on Ford’s designs, you should definitely be able to wear them day-in and day-out.

Drake wore Tom Ford earlier this week, thus he may be bold enough to pull off the collection’s animal print sportscoat. Other dazzling blazers in bold hues and eye-catching patterns were not for the faint of heart, but might tickle the fancy of the designer’s other dappers fans like Jake Gyllenhaal and Justin Timberlake.

Kylie and Kendell Jenner’s New T-Shirt Line Under Fire for Using Tupac and Biggie’s Likeness

The Jenner sisters are being slammed on social media for their latest t-shirt collection , which consists of $125 vintage tees featuring images of deceased music legends like Tupac and Biggie.

The controversy occurred when the ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ reality stars posted themselves wearing the tees, with their faces transposed over those of the late rappers. Biggie’s mother Voletta Wallace voiced her disapproval, taking to Instagram to say, , “I am not sure who told @kyliejenner and @kendalljenner that they had the right to do this. The disrespect of these girls to not even reach out to me or anyone connected to the estate baffles me.  I have no idea why they feel they can exploit the deaths of 2pac and my Son Christopher to sell a t-shirt.”

The limited edition t-shirt collection also features photos of rock bands Metallica, Kiss, and Pink Floyd, with Kendall and Kylie’s faces over the band logos. While the rock band tees remain on the site, the Tupac and Biggie products have been removed.

Sounds like they’ve been in a lot of hot water recently. They have more than enough resources to do the proper research or pay to use people’s likenesses–I wonder why they don’t do their due diligence?

Throwback Thursdays #TBT: The Style Evolution of Mary J. Blige

Chances are if you grew up during the nineties, you had this week’s throwback blasting through your casette player during personal moments of both heartbreak and triumph.  With soul-quaking lyrics sung over a melodic piano and hard hitting drums, Hip-Hop Soul was born, and Mary J. Blige is still the reigning queen of this genre.

Just as noteworthy as her music is her sense of style.  From fitted caps and baseball jerseys to couture gowns on red carpets, MJB has never shied away from serving a look to get the people talking.

The nineties were a time of bold prints and lots of urban flair when it came to Blige.  Baseball jerseys, oversized athletic jackets were a part of her steeze, as her style reflected that of many of the girls from the Bronx during this era.  And who can forget those iconic “Not Gon’ Cry” sunglasses?    MJB began to experiment with her style even further, especially during red carpet appearances.  Outfits gilded in gold paisley, baroque prints and vivid fur coats draped over sparkly gowns became the norm whenever Blige hit the carpet.
Eventually, the silhouettes of her outfits became more streamlined.  More column dresses featuring halters or asymmetry at the shoulders or sleeves came into play as Mary became more fashion forward.  Mary also loves to switch things up when the occasion doesn’t call for a floor length gown.  She kills it in separates, especially in pieces that feature geometric prints.    Though she’s been in the game for almost thirty years, there really is no stopping Mary as the slay is still consistent.  Column dresses are still her favorite silhouette to consider, but these days, she may be inclined to show a little leg, evidenced by her saucy La Perla gown worn at this year’s Met Gala.  From Reem Acra to Gucci and J. Mendel, and with Jason Bolden as her style architect, how can she do wrong?

So here’s to Mary J. Blige, a pioneer of the music world who defined the genre of Hip-Hop Soul, a beacon of hope to women who struggle to keep a positive outlook on life, and a style icon with looks to last a lifetime.

On the Scene: The LA Premiere of Spider-Man: Homecoming featuring Zendaya in Pink Ralph and Russo, Yara Shahidi in Monse, Marisa Tomei in Zuhair Murad, and more!

The LA Premiere of Spider-Man: Homecoming bowed last night, with a smattering of stars in attendance. Take a look:

Zendaya better SLAY! She was a vision in a custom Ralph and Russo pink gown, pink Casadei pumps, and Bulgari jewels. Law Roach did that. This is definitely a frontrunner for Look of the Week!

Karen Gillan plucked a velvety Self Portrait Fall 2017 dress for the event.

Marisa Tomei stepped out a lace and metallic detailed Zuhair Murad gown.

Yara Shahidi looked smart in a $1,690 Monse striped wrap top and $425 Tamara Mellon Frontline sandals. I need those shoes!

Ms. Beauvais never misses a red carpet! She paired a $195 House of CB Eliza bodycon dress with Dsquared2 Riri sandals.

I am definitely here for Selenis Leyva’s metallic striped coat.

Velvet was a popular choice for the carpet! Cue Laura Harrier’s wine colored Calvin Klein frock. She’s a beauty!

Lastly, Abraham Attah sidled up to African prints.
That does it! Who had your favorite look from the Spiderman premiere?

Knock it Off: Louis Vuitton Blocks Amazon Sellers Over Counterfeit Bags

Louis Vuitton is not pleased with Amazon right now! The French giant has taken Amazon to task for allowing sellers to promote and sell knockoffs on the world-wide e-commerce site.

According to Fashionista, it’s “war” between the two. Louis Vuitton won the first round once a judge called on a preliminary injunction hearing which will block all Amazon sellers involved in this counterfeiting business.

This case will continue until a final determination is reached. If Louis Vuitton wins, the company is expected to receive $60-million from Amazon for allowing sellers to mock the authentic logo and designs.

Splurge: Alesha Dixon’s X Factor Beaufille Black Flared Pants

Alesha Dixon added a little sass and a whole lot of style to The X Factor Edinburgh show sporting a white off-the-shoulder crop top and black $390 Beaufille Navi satin-jacquard flared pants.

These slim fitting pants sit high on the waist, hug the thigh area, and flare at the bottom.

They can be worn with or without a belt, and they feature a concealed zipper closure in the back.

These stylish pants can jazz up any simple ensemble.  I believe this is one of Alesha’s best looks that she has worn on The X Factor.  I absolutely need these pants!  If you’re up for the splurge as well, purchase your pair here.
