Beauty Crush Wednesday #BCW: Jourdan Dunn

When we think of iconic supermodels, the names Naomi, Christy, Linda, and Tyra ring a few bells.  Not that any of the aforementioned have lost this coveted title, but there’s a new era upon us.  And in this era, one of the girls who can undoubtedly add “iconic” to her résumé is this week’s beauty crush, Jourdan Dunn.  The Londoner walked an incredible 75 shows during her first ever season after being signed to leading UK agency Storm, and since then, her rise to stardom has been an astronomical one.  One of Burberry’s mainstays, one of the faces of Maybelline cosmetics, the first black girl to walk for Prada since 1997 (Campbell being the first ever), it’s no wonder she was, and still is on everyone’s radar, including us.  The list of achievements go on and on for the supermodel, and she looks gorgeous while tackling each feat.
First thing’s first.  Jourdan Dunn is gorgeous.  So much so, she barely needs a touch of makeup to look flawless.

But when this beauty gets glammed up, she goes for subtlety with doses of impact.  If she’s rocking little to no eyeshadow, chances are she’s sporting a bold lip.  A brooding red like Maybelline’s “Divine Wine” adds that necessary punch, but still showcases a classic look.  For coverage, Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mousse Foundation is her go to for coverage that’s hydrating and goes on evenly.
As for her eyes, when Jourdan goes for the dramatic, more is more when it comes to a smokey eye. Black and gray shades accentuate her almond-shaped eyes, transforming an ordinary stare into a smoldering gaze.
At the advice of her hairstylist, Dunn began wearing wigs as a means of maintaining her natural hair’s durability. And believe me when I say she seems to have a wig for every mood. From long and cascading to ooze sex appeal…

…to curly and voluminous to externalize her inner diva…
…to short, sleek bobs for a sassy yet sophisticated vibe, seems to me like she’s amassed quite a formidable wig collection.
Besides being stunningly gorgeous, slaying catwalk after catwalk with her signature strut, and serving looks on the red carpet, Dunn can definitely. Most recently, she teamed up with retail giant MissGuided to create her own line of athleisure apparel: Londunn.
So, here’s to Jourdan Dunn for consistantly championing the cause for more diversity on the runways and for being an inspiration to many young black girls who aspire to follow in her footsteps. For more, spy our gallery above!

Balmain Resort 2018 Collection is Inspired By the Bold Behavior, Yet Delicate Appeal of the French Ballerina

Olivier Rousteing taken a new interest in French classical ballerina’s, and now has incorporated their movement and femininity into his Balmain Resort 2018 collection.

After collaborating with the French Opera House, Opera de Paris, for “Renaissance,” a dance piece choreographed by Sébastien Bertraud, he was intrigued by the femininty, compassion and strength intrinsic in the movement of the lithe dancers.

In a press-release, Rousteing said, “while working with the company, what most impressed me was the talent, daring and power of its dancers—making clear the obvious connection between ballet’s strong women and the members of today’s Balmain Army.”

Rousteing held a temporary showroom of his designs which showcased precious tutu’s and light weight chiffon ruffle blouses overladen with heavy embroidery, gold chains, tweed patterns, over the top fringe detailing, lace-ups, destroyed denim, and more. Pastels mixed with grunge-like hues were even seen throughout the collection.

Also, with his close connection to Los Angeles, simply for it’s diversity and inclusion, he mentioned that he will soon open a Balmain flagship store. Maybe in Melrose?

In the mean time, check out some of our faves from the collection here!

Real Street Style: Essence Festival Weekend 2017

Essence Festival always brings a slew of treasures to the city of New Orleans.  While attending this culturally notorious event, one will see their fair share of popular celebrities, creative hairdos, and faddish fashion.  We roamed the streets of New Orleans this past weekend to bring you some fierce fashion that will definitely inspire your wardrobe.  Let’s jump into our findings below!

We caught up with adopted New Orleans native Solange (@saintrecords) while in her store Saint Heron.  This natural cutie was wearing black oversize pants and a black spaghetti strap top which featured feathers at the bottom.

Stylist/On-Air personality Ashley Dunn (@iamashleydunn) looked absolutely fly in a red and white striped off-the-shoulder top, distressed denim shorts, and silver heels.

How cute is Courtney in this white off-the-shoulder top, green cargo pants, and mustard colored block heels?

Curt (@curt.james.third) gave minimalism a whole new stylish perspective in this oversize gray t-shirt, distressed ankle length jeans, and metallic loafers.

Distressed denim was a popular look at this year’s Essence Festival.  This lovely lady paired her denim with a flower print bodysuit and tan sandals.

What’s fashion without mixed prints?  I am loving how this goddess mixed and matched different patterns to create this eye-catching ensemble.

Krystal (@krystalgarner) kept it breezy and summer-like in this flowing peach dress with tan strappy sandals.

What’s New Orleans’ street style without a turban with a feather?  Lexi (@lexiwiththecurls) matched her red head wrap with a black, yellow, and white stripe jumper and gold sandals.

Liberty (@libertyphilly) hit the streets of New Orleans in a gray t-shirt dress accented with a black thin belt, black sandals, and a metallic bra underneath.

Samjah (@samjahiman) matched the city’s colorful vibes in this yellow bralet, zebra high waist pants, and green New Balance tennis shoes.

Mea (@meaboykins) gave us major class in this yellow bell-sleeve dress paired with royal blue ankle strap heels.

This beauty worked a blue crop top, pink high waist trousers, and purple heels.

Off-the-shoulder was a popular fashion trend at Essence Fest, and this lovely lady kept it going in this burnt orange top, bronze drawstring pants, and brown sandals.

How dope was this gentleman in a graphic print overall short set and red tee?!

Robin (@robinmbarnes) was sassy in a pink and black pleated dress, fabulous pearl sunshades, and tan sandals.

This golden girl stole the show in this yellow African print wide leg jumper.  I absolutely need this!
