Beyonce had a push party to celebrate the impending birth of her twins, and marked the occasion with a motherland themed fete!
Lala Anthony, Serena Williams, Michelle Williams, and more came to give Mrs. Carter their well wishes.
Check it out:
Lala smiled with Ms. Tina in an Ott Dubai cardigan.
As we reported here, Kelly Rowland looked amazing in Shop Bombchel.
Vanessa Bryant flaunted leopard sunglasses and a headwrap.
Last, but not least, is Queen Bey:
The lady of the hour showed off her belly in a custom Reuben Reuel layered ruffle skirt. Jay Z sidled to her side in all wide and an African pendant necklace.
Never stop learning.
That’s a bit of honest advice I’d give to anyone looking to start out in the industry.
Expend every resource available to you. Read books, watch videos, go see talks, find ways to mix and mingle with others who share your interests until you feel you are going in the direction you desire.
When I first started blogging, way before all the fashion shows and bright lights, I’d hit up every fashionable exhibit in the city, and write about those since I didn’t have any events to go to (peep my Black Style Now? Critique on FBD from 2006). Before you get all the glamour, do a bit of grunt work–read, think, grow.
Of course the world is vast and the options are endless, so below, please find my recommendations for great fashion books + fashion films and documentaries you can catch on Youtube, Netflix, or On Demand:
There are so many more that I love, but you can read and watch those to start.
What are some of your favorite fashion books and documentaries?
The 2017 Billboard Music Awards were a sight to behold last night. Seems like a lot of celebrities opted for Cannes instead of the award show’s red carpet, but the looks were definitely on point!
Let’s get into the evening’s fashion choices!
Eudoxie brought the heat in a silk black, Stello slit gown with a plunging neckline, alongside husband Ludacris who was the night’s co-host. Beautiful couple!
Celine Dion shut the night down in a puff-sleeve Stephane Rolland gown that was as breathtaking as her performance. She is complete and utter #goals.
John Legend was dapper in a double-breasted check Gucci suit. So handsome!
Before presenting Drake with the award for Top Male Artist, Kate Beckinsale hit the red carpet in a colorful embellished, sheer Zuhair Murad number. You can always count on the brand for a gorgeous gown! Clearly transparent dresses were one of the night’s biggest trends.
Olivia Munn smoldered in a black sheer, floral embroidered Redemption gown. She’s stunning!
Rita Ora left very little to the imagination in a crystal encrusted white Francesco Scognamiglio top and sheer black mesh pencil skirt. Not too keen on this look for the red carpet, though I loved it on the runway.
Vanessa Hudgens was pretty in pink, clad in a bow-accented Marchesa look with cutout detailing. This was fab.
Hailee Steinfeld sizzled in a silver and black sheer David Koma dress with mesh accents and a curve-hugging fit. She’s always flawless.
Camila Cabello was the lady in red, elegant in a lace Jonathan Simkhai slip gown and matching duster. Hot!
Halsey flaunted her toned abs in a Sergio Hudson bra top, Juun J. trench-inspired skirt, and Monika Chiang lace-up sandals. She slayed this, am I right?
Lea Michele turned up the heat in a mesh inset David Koma design. Great dress!
Ashley Tisdale slipped on a lace bodice jumpsuit from Tadashi Shoji.
Kelly Rowland attended Beyonce’s African themed push party in a tie dye crop top and high slit skirt by Shop Bombchel.
Yass, Queen Kelly!
Though I haven’t received confirmation as yet, this print looks familiar because the designer sent me the same set! See a few similar pieces by the brand below:
Bonus: the clothes are made by disadvantaged Liberian women. Fashion for a cause.

What do you think of Kelly’s ensemble (so hot!)?
The 70th Annual Cannes Film Festival Premieres are just getting better and better! Our favorite bad gal was in attendance for the Okja red carpet, as well as some of the most beloved style stars on the planet.
Let’s get into the ensembles, shall we?
Rihanna made her second Cannes appearance in a white strapless Dior Couture gown with a matching, floor-grazing jacket, languidly worn off her shoulders. Yes to old Hollywood glamour!
Bella Hadid was the lady in red, accenting her quilted look with a diamond snake necklace. This was fab.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan brought the drama in a Michael Cinco Couture design that dropped jaws. Gorgeous, no?
Julianne Moore shimmered and sparkled in an embellished Louis Vuitton, long-sleeve number. I live for her style!
That chic French flair was continued, by way of Jessica Chastain’s curve-hugging lilac, embellished fringe Givenchy Couture dress. She never disappoints.
Lily Collins was ethereal in a white, wispy Ralph & Russo Spring 2017 Couture gown. Pure perfection!
Li Yuchun was fierce in a tiger embroidered Gucci look that played on the timeless China cheongsam dress. The craftsmanship on this one? Exquisite.
Tilda Swinton was white hot in a long-sleeve Haider Ackermann gown with an asymmetric hem and satin waist. And that hair? A complete slay!
She writes, “I am from Toronto and was born in Tanzania.”
” I work in Regulatory Affairs for the Federal Government.”
” I enjoy having a diverse wardrobe of both office attire and casual garments, ensuring to inject colour whenever I can.”
” I love to be trendy but I generally wear what I am drawn to, regardless if it is on trend or not.”
” I have recently begun to showcase my outfits on instagram.”
” Hopefully your readers like my style.”
Super cute! You make me want to go out and buy a pair of leopard pumps!

You guys are loving you some Chrissy Lampkin! The former reality star posed with beau Jim Jones in a simple sort dress uplifted by Gucci accessories. Simple, but chic. She looked great!
Yet another winning ensemble from Michelle Williams and Jason Bolin, courtesy of Camilla with Love. Silver metallic sunglasses and a lacy bra were the perfect accents. This is a beautifully stylish synergy–the sky is the limit!
Tracee Ellis Ross popped by the Paley Honors Event in a safari inspired khaki look. Someone commented, “Feminine, classy and boss!” We couldn’t agree more.
That does it! Who had your favorite look this week.
You’d have to be living under a rock without WiFi to have not seen the tizzy the RompHim has caused. To be clear, it is literally just a romper for men—leaving all of us who love playsuits wondering why the “him” needed to be injected into the name…
Men have already been wearing all-in-ones for quite a long time now. Sean Connery looked so dapper in them in over 50 years ago in 1964’s Goldfinger. Yes, that’s James Bond himself in a romper ya’ll.
Mike Tyson flexed his biceps in shortalls for a supreme throwback.
Andy Cohen reminded us that he’s been wearing rompers since at least 2015 and that he has no plans of stopping. Hello legs!
McQ by Alexander McQueen is even selling one right now, though they’re branding it as a “jumpsuit”.
And Reebok is getting in on the fun with their ReeRomp.
So the “fashion revolution” RompHim is claiming to begin isn’t really a revolution at all. But I am totally all for men expressing themselves in whatever way they see fit. I live for a romper and jumpsuit, so I’m not surprised that a larger contingent of guys are getting on the bandwagon. One of the styles has even sold-out!
