On the Scene: The 2017 CFDA Awards with Lupita Nyong’o in Jason Wu, Hailey Baldwin in Cushnie et Ochs and Brother Vellies, Kerry Washington in Prabal Gurung, and More!

The 2017 CFDA Awards went down last night, with our favorite supermodels, actresses, designers, and all-around style stars are in the building.

Let’s get into the night’s looks!

Lupita Nyong’o oozed glamour in an asymmetric draped shoulder, Jason Wu slit dress. Simply stunning.

Hailey Baldwin’s Brother Vellies accessories were the perfect complements to her Cushnie et Ochs LWD.

Kerry Washington couldn’t be missed in a strapless, embellished Prabal Gurung gown.

Janelle Monae put a fun spin on her signature black and white look, clad in a stripe, asymmetric shoulder crop top and high-waist trousers. Werk Janelle!

Bella Hadid was pretty in pink, debuting new bangs in an Off-White belted dress. Could this be any more perfect?

Laura Harrier opted for trousers, outfitted in a Rosie Assoulin peplum jumpsuit. Simple, ankle-strap sandals would have completed this look perfectly.

Riley Montana followed Bella’s color palette lead, clad in a pink Brandon Maxwell halter gown. I’m fairly certain he can do no wrong in the design department.

Gigi Hadid pared it all the way down in an all-white, floor-grazing The Row ensemble.

Gabrielle Union shimmered and sparkled in a gold long jacket, sheer embellished top, and black high-waist encrusted trousers—all from Rodarte. Werk Gabby!

Priyanka Chopra slipped on a custom black herringbone sequined Michael Kors Collection dress for the evening. Pure perfection.

It was all about stripes, smoky eyes, and statement-making earrings for designer Tracy Reese.

Imaan Hammam was on-trend in a floral embroidered denim set with a tulle train from Adam Selman. How fun was this?

Diane Kruger couldn’t be missed in a cobalt strapless velvet Monse gown with gold embellishment. Certainly not for the faint of heart, but she can look good in veritably anything.

Heron Preston gave a classic black suit some edge with a flaming skull t-shirt and trainers.

Olivia Palermo was outfitted in a $148 Ruffled Off The Shoulder Dress from her very own, forthcoming Banana Republic collaboration. Great dress!

Olivia Munn was a floral dream in a ruffle-accented cutout Tanya Taylor gown in the timeless print.

Heidi Klum was a vision in a simple, yet chic Zac Posen gown. This was fab!

Eva Chen went bold in an orange Sies Marjan frock and chunky, platform sandals.

Lily Aldridge looked every bit the supermodel in a nude embellished slip-inspired Jason Wu gown. Gorgeous, am I right?

Diane Von Furstenberg was a vision in a paillette-adorned LWD. I live for her!

Elsa Hosk accented her white and black, sheer Alberta Ferretti gown with red lips and matching red shoes. So pretty.

Kate Bosworth was a breath of fresh Spring air in a yellow embellished, ankle-length Brock Collection design. She’s always flawless!

Meg Ryan took me back to the 90’s in a simple Christian Siriano gown. I’ll always love her.

Adriana Lima was super sleek in a white silk, Donna Karan tuxedo-inspired jumpsuit.

Chloe Sevigny couldn’t have been cooler in a black and white Proenza Schouler frock.

Sasha Lane mixed prints in Coach. Though it wasn’t my favorite look of the night, it totally matched her personality and risk-taking style.

Alek Wek looked every bit the high-fashion queen, clad in the same Balenciaga bow-detailed gown she wore on the runway. Iconic!

Event Recap: WOE Magazine, Lord & Taylor Team Up to Celebrate Claire Sulmers’s Cover and The Bomb Life

Claire Sulmers is one busy woman! From overseeing her multicultural digital platform to hosting events and public speaking, it’s about time she graced the cover of a magazine. WOE (Women Own Excellence) Magazine did the honors by placing Fashion Bomb Daily’s very own EIC as the Covergirl of their latest Beauty, Brains, and Business Issue.

On Saturday, June 3rd in Washington, DC., WOE Magazine teamed up with Lord & Taylor to celebrate her cover reveal. The event comprised an intimate discussion on her book The Bomb Life with “Cover Talk,” followed by a book signing and spring fashion show.

As soon as I stepped foot in the luxury retail space I was dazzled by Bombshells and Bombers who came fully dressed to impress and meet the Fashion Bombshell H.B.I.C.

Next, came the spring fashion show by Lord & Taylor. The style direction represented “beauty, brains and excellence” which was creatively executed by WOE Magazine Fashion Contributor, Tamiko White @tamikowhite. Celebrity hairstylist, Charlene Brown @charlenebrown1 brought her “Glam Team” for the models who were all represented by @roetheagency. The models were styled with many of the latest trends: pom poms accessories, pop-art patches, visors, kimonos (both men and women!), men’s gladiator sandals, loungewear, and fringe denim. As well as some continuous trends: plaids, nude tones, socks with sandals, lace, tie-dye, bomber jackets and blazers.

The room was filled with empowerment and fashion. So much that a portion of the proceeds benefited Mia Wright @miawrightinspires of “We CAN-CER vive!” foundation. She fought and survived ovarian cancer three times! Another reason to celebrate women kicking butt!

Then came what attendees had patiently waited for: Claire. She sat down with WOE Magazine Editor in Chief, Ayo Thomas @ayoempowersyou and Tamiko White to discuss her book, graduating from Harvard, life after Harvard, staying humble, and the challenges she’s faced that shaped the woman she is today.

A Q&A followed next by fans and entrepreneurs.

After attendees soaked up the EIC’s powerful words and wisdom she began her book signing. According to her excerpt on The Bomb Life she only brought 35 books with her on her way to DC and sold out of all of them.

For the Day, Claire wore a white jumpsuit from It Factor Boutique, a Balmain blazer, a Gucci logo belt, and jewelry/shoes from Lord & Taylor.

Claire will be back in DC July 30th to host Cocktails with Claire.

What do you think of Claire’s first cover launch event?

Denna Gvasalia of Vetements and Azede Jean Pierre Amongst First Designers to Step Away from Fashion Week

Fashion Week is terribly antiquated. It started off as the only way buyers, insiders, and editors could see and report on collections. With the advent of the internet and injection of consumerism, it has ballooned into a multi day circus of endless shows, parties, preening, and popping champagne. While enjoyable, now that shows can be streamed online, the industry no longer actually needs to keep the charade going. Denna Gvasalia of Vetements and Azede Jean Pierre are two designers who have decided to gracefully bow out of the fashion show system.

In an article on Vogue.com, Demna Gvasalia of the uber popular label Vetements said, “We are not going to show in the classical system anymore. I got bored. I think it needs to enter a new chapter. Fashion shows are not the best tool. We did the show in the sex club, the restaurant, the church. We brought forward the season, we showed men’s and women’s together. It’s become repetitive and exhausting. We will do something when there’s the time and the need for it. It will be more like a surprise.”

Azede seconded Gvasalia’s emotions, telling FashionBombDaily.com, “I did this exact thing! And my life is so much for filled, I’m working on my own time and I get to work on beautifully amazing inspiring projects as well.”

It’s way past time for fashion to evolve and embrace new technology and the new consumer. Fashion Shows and Fashion Week are marketing tools; they’re the icing on the cake. While nice, fun, and fast paced, they are unnecessary. And I’m sure the Fall, Spring, Pre-Fall, Resort, Cruise obligations are supremely taxing. Why not just create what you want, when you want, and feed it first hand to your fans via social media?
