If you’re not wearing sequins for day, night, and every moment in between yet, designers want you to start with Spring 2018. NYFW was brimming with the shimmering embellishment from almost every single one of our favorite brands:
Marc Jacobs showed an oversized sequin-embellished jacket, accented by powerful black and white prints on Slick Woods, while Adwoa Aboah strutted down the Coach catwalk in a cool spin on the sequin pencil—that featured a velvet underlayer.
Michael Kors created the most gorgeous sequin ombre pants on Ysaunny Brito and Monse put Dilone in a fun, sequin jersey for a spirited take on one of the world’s classics.
Lineisy Montero dazzled in a sequin tulle dress we wouldn’t be surprised to see at the Emmys this weekend at Oscar de la Renta. A magenta and red embellished stunner at Sachin + Babi could also be a great Emmys party contender.
And last but not least was Binx Walton’s strong-shouldered, silver mini dress at Tom Ford. Can I have this for my Spring wardrobe please?
Yesterday closed out New York Fashion Week and Fashion Bomb Daily’s Editor-In-Chief is headed to London Fashion Week next. But, before we said good-bye to the runway shows, the late night after parties, and of course, the street style in New York—we wanted to bring you street style and interviews one last time! We caught up with some bombers at Pharrell’s G-Star Raw event and show attendees at Skylight Clarkson.
Model, @thetailoredrockstar posed before he attended Pharrell’s event in NYC. He gives us a preview to his Fall style with his moto denim jacket and all black ensemble.
Honestly, I utilize everything around me to create my look. You really have to express yourself through your apparel, hence the hat.
If you didn’t know, plaid is trending this Fall! @Laurel.thom stood out on the streets with her mixed prints as she left her last show of the season.
What’s your best Fashion Week memory? What made it so special?
This was actually my first Fashion Week experience. Sitting front row at the Denivi show at my first show ever next to a bunch of bloggers that I aspire to be like made this Fashion Week extremely special for me.
What was your favorite show?
The one I just came from, Marcel Ostertag. The pieces that he had were phenomenal. There were lots of greens and funky silhouettes. It kept me entertained with lots of prints, and I clearly love prints! It’s like organized chaos!
Fedora hats were on trend for bombers for the last day of Fashion Week clearly! @Child_rebel paired his yellow bomber jacket with Yeezy’s on his way to attend his last event for Fashion Week.
What do you love about Fashion Week? What do you hate?
What I love is that New York Fashion Week is homecoming for the fly people in New York. It’s the one time of the year we all come together and then we see each other next February. We all live in New York, but don’t see each other everyday, but when Fashion Week comes around we pick up where we left off. What I hate this year is how much they’re overbooking shows and closing it out, this is the first time I’m attending Fashion Week and they’re doing that.
What style advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t wear Michael Kors!! [laughs] I would tell myself, don’t be trendy, keep it classy. I wish I had brought more classical or vintage pieces instead of trendy things that are completely out of style now.
I am absolutely loving these sequin sleeves! @Fresh_artise was spied in an all white look, custom jacket, and fedora hat.
What do you spend the most on when you go shopping?
Shoes and jackets because I like to look for originality and most things that people don’t have. I usually get things custom made.
Who’s your celeb style inspiration?
Chris Brown, because he’s always different and unique. He’s so dope to me!
While Teyana is usually spied slaying front row at a fashion show, she went a different route this year. Not only did she walk the runway, she performed on the runway. On the second day of Fashion Week she closed the GCDS show in a white 2-piece set showing off her legs. Teyana strutted the runway fiercely snatching off the oversized shades she rocked. She posted the video to her Instagram captioning it, “When they let ah Harlem girl storm thru fashion week!!! GCDS 😩😩😩 omg today was sooooo dope thank you.”
Just when we thought her runway debut was over, she performed on the runway Saturday night at Philipp Plein’s star-studded show. The crowd applauded as Future performed his hit single “Mask Off,” and Teyana put a full production on for the crowd. She walked out in a curve-hugging bodysuit, black booties and a leather jacket she later swung on the runway before performing. She crawled, she rolled backwards, she vogued—she did just about everything and the crowd loved it.
Yesterday, Teyana closed out her New York Fashion Week runway appearances at The Blonds. She opened the show with every inch of sass in a high-cut neon blue leotard and a The Blondes Spring/Summer 18 jacket with mixed prints and neon colors. With her platinum blonde hair pulled back she confidently walked the runway and posed on a pillar while the remainder of the models walked the show.

Rihanna went full throttle for her Spring 2018 collection, as she showcased her collection at the Park Avenue Armory. Celebrities like Cardi B, Offset, Big Sean, Jhene Aiko, Whoopie Goldberg, Omari Hardrick, Leonardo Decaprio, and more attended, while models like Joan Smalls, Slick Woods, Cara Delevigne, Sela Louise Marley, Adriana Thorne strutted down the runway turned mortorcycle ramp.
The collection is full of vibrant colors, peek-a-boo laceups, mesh, skintight spandex gear, with a splash of oversized looks including cargo-like sweatpants, and hooded wear.
Rih managed to take daring looks to the beach by mixing sexy swimwear ensembles which screamed early 2000’s vibes.
Oversized fanny packs are trending heavy in 2017, and Rihanna wouldn’t be Rihanna if she didn’t throw some bad boys of her own in the mix. She even added her own edgy signature on the front of the colorblock nylon waist belts.
More styles spotted in the collection were layers, which will forever be Rihanna’s thing, new Fenty Puma Creepers, strapped thong sandals, open-toe laceups, and thigh-high boots in nylon, and solid muted tones.
And we can’t forget how flawlessly beat the makeup looked on the models, as they all rocked the new Fenty Beauty line.
Check out more looks from the collection in the gallery.
What are your thoughts on Rih’s new SS18 ready to wear collection?
A fashion shakeup right in the middle of NYFW! Nina Garcia has just been named ELLE’s new EIC, as Robbie Myers announced her departure to the glossy’s staff in an email on Monday:
After 17 years with the brand, Myers is looking to spend more time with her children. Garcia is thus jumping from Marie Claire to ELLE. She starts her new position next week on September 18th.
“Nina embodies all the qualities of a modern editor-in-chief,” affirmed Hearst Magazines president David Carey in a statement. “She’s an important authority in fashion, respected by her peers for her personal style, her ability to spot talent and her deep relationships across the industry. She’s also known to millions around the world for her role on Project Runway and the dynamic, behind-the-scenes life she shares with 4.5 million engaged followers on social media. Her love of fashion is deeply felt and it will resonate on every page.”
