Claire’s Life + On the Scene: The FashionPreneur Academy’s Black Tie Event, Founded by Irregular Exposure’s Jessica Williams

The FashionPreneur Academy is a coaching service for the emerging and aspiring fashion entrepreneur created by Jessica Williams, the owner of the successful retail brand, Irregular Exposure. Jessica saw a problem in the industry: a lack of knowledge regarding how to create, maintain, and market a successful fashion brand. The FashionPrenuer Academy is her solution. Williams trains and educates students during the year, with a curriculum concluding with a fashion focused multi-day retreat in LA. Last night’s black tie gala was an awards ceremony for students who had successfully completed the course, and a celebration of style, which kicked off with a conversation between Jessica and I about her inspiration for creating this movement.

Many hold knowledge close, for fear of giving the competition an advantage. Williams gives freely; thus it was a wonderful honor to interview her about her reasons for creating an organization built to inspire and inform. A few resounding take aways: say no to fear, and have faith that GOD will supply your demands. Start small and know that business take several years to flourish. Be resourceful and network laterally. Also, invest in yourself with events like the FashionPreneur Academy, that welcome experts for concentrated and guaranteed elevation.

The proceedings were nothing short of inspirational. There has been a wave of fashion entrepreneurs now starting their brands through the power of social media, but there are few resources that actually show them how to run a successful business. The FashionPreneur Academy does just that.

Though attendees came for inspiration and empowerment, they also came to slay! And with a formal black dress code, they did not play. Take a look at a few fabulous guests:

Bombshell @Kerasmatic showed off her form in a semi sheer dress of her design.

@BuStyleGuide was adorable defined in a black and white letter blazer she designed and a matching hat. And yes to the blond dreads!

Memphis Bombshell @901Covergirl turned heads in a Fashion Nova dress. Work! See you at CWC Memphis on April 20th!

A @ShopAkira dress was on deck for this Bombshell.

This fabulous boss made a statement in lace.

I was living for this Bombshell’s metallic accented ensemble.

@ShopDivineFashions worked a fringed number.

@CocoDita looked amazing in a sparkly gown.

Designer @TracieLanae worked an Oyemwen skirt from FashionBombDailyShop.com!

Bomb boutique owner @LYS_loveyourself was a vision in a fringed dress from her store.

Jessica Williams was the host with the most in a custom creation by @ShopBritanyChristina.

As for me…

I rocked a dress by One Trieu Yeu and Iris Trends earrings I found just the day prior at Maison Privée PR. For a last minute look, I think it worked!

The ladies looked absolutely fabulous!

The FashionPreneur Academy is BOMB. Be sure to sign up for their courses at TheFashionPreneurAcademy.com.

Bomb Product of the Day: Manolo Blahnik Suede Lace-up Mules

By Limsan Boulter (@limo_x)

Featuring on every fashionista’s (and Sex and the City fan’s) wish list, Manolo Blahnik’s elegantly feminine heels are always a favorite. Arguably the king of the embellished pump, Manolo Blahnik shoes has the ability to be utterly eye catching yet classy at the same time.

Stepping away from the expected is Manolo Blahnik’s suede lace up mules. These shoes are a much more understated style than what we’re used to seeing from the designer. Taking on a Timberland-eqse aesthetic, these mules are screaming to be paired with a modern, urban streetwear styled outfit.

How would you rock them?

Bomb Product of the Day: Balmain Lyna Origami Thigh High Silver Boots

By Limsan Boulter (@limo_x)

Boots. Ankle, knee or thigh-high; chunky, lady-like or embellished, there is no doubting the diversity of this fall/winter wardrobe staple. However, boots are not just a cold weather shoe. Lately we have been seeing boots paired with dresses and skirts. Knee high boots + calf length A-line skirts or dresses appeared to be top trend this season and we’re predicting ankle boots + ankle grazing flowing dresses or skirts to be the hit of the spring time.

Another huge trend we have been seeing (which will likely be seen through the rest of the year) is metallic shoes. Silver and Gold shoes have taken over the runway and Insta-feeds. And who could possibly do it better than Balmain? These thigh-high shimmering boots are a statement in their own. At the higher end of the splurge worthy scale at $2,695, would you buy them?

What 5 Things You Can Do When Instagram Goes Down (Or There is A Facebook Outage) To Reach Your Audience: Youtube, Events, Build Your Email List, and more!

Yesterday, the world was in a total tizzy! Why? Instagram, Facebook, AND What’s app had the nerve to have a glitch that suspended service for most of the day.

Many of us (ourselves included) rely heavily on social networking tools for our businesses. While Fashion Bomb Daily started off as a regular old blogspot, we now disperse most of our news, new arrivals to our store, and event details on the ‘Gram. But yesterday, business was put on hold as Instagram worked out its issues.

As many of you know, most of last year, our mothership @FashionBombDaily was disabled at 1.4 million followers. For 8 months, we were seemingly separated from our platform and forced to diversify. It was tough! Why? While we poured so much energy and attention into Instagram, we had allowed our other platforms to flounder. Whenever this happens, we are forced to realize that we don’t actually own our real estate on Instagram. Everything can disappear in the snap of a finger. So next time IG acts up, make sure you are ready to pivot in the following ways:
1. YouTube

We actually do have a Youtube page, YouTube.com/fashionbombtv, and while we’ve churned out some pretty amazing videos in the past, we definitely could be more consistent! Last night, when Instagram showed no signs of recovery, I did my first Youtube Live unboxing:

It felt pretty lonely out there, but no matter: we all start somewhere. Be as consistent with Youtube as you are with Instagram and sit back and watch the results. Videos on Youtube get 10 of thousands and sometimes millions of views. Commit yourself to regular updates, just as you would any platform. While websites might be seen as something of the past, video is the future. Cop some of my swag below:

2. Emails and Newsletters

We all have to check emails: Build up that email list! Go direct to inbox with your latest announcements, news, and events. Sign up for our mailing list below:

3. Events

Events saved us when we were going through our rough patch last year. Convos with Claire is a unique experience for fashion lovers to network in their corners of the world. People come to dress up, learn, and network! We were able to fill rooms with ticket paying guests, vendors, and sponsors with a very small social imprint.

Online is great, but in person still works. Be sure to nurture a community both offline and online. Our next event is in Memphis, Tennessee on April 20th! Get your tickets at CWCMEMPHIS.EVENTBRITE.COM. Want to bring CWC to your town? Email bookclairesulmers@gmail.com

4.Twitter

We went straight to Twitter when everything went down, and learned that we were not alone. We also used the occasion to drive traffic to YouTube, our website, and events. Be sure to follow us at Twitter.com/thefashionbomb.

5. E Commerce Or Your Own Website

If you pay for hosting with a website or an e-commerce site, and own the domain name, your content will always have a home. We were blessed to truly launch FashionBombDailyShop.com last year, and as always we have our home base, FashionBombDaily.com. Of course websites can have outages, but at least in those cases, you’ll be more in control of the outcome. While we were left to twiddle our fingers for hours with IG, not knowing if order would be restored, your domain hosting site undoubtedly has a technical team that can provide updates. Feel more secure with your own domain.

6. Get Your Own App

Though this article promised 5 tips, there is a 6th that is definitely worth your investment: your own App. Instagram is an app that was able to attract the attention of millions. Who’s to say you can’t create your own Bomb app that serves the same purpose? At the very least, you would have a destination that users can get to on their phones to access your content no matter what! FBD is working on an app as we speak. If you’d like to donate to our new technology, click here.

As incidents like yesterday should teach us, we are only leasing time on IG. It is beautiful while it’s here, but we should all create our own social/content backups in case anything happens again in the future.

How to Follow Meghan Markle’s Steps on the Trends

Meghan Markle was already a big Hollywood star with an amazing wardrobe. However, since she became the new member of the British royal family her styling got bigger and better. Markle has been creating these new simple, classy and elegant outfits to fulfil her duties as the Duchess of Sussex. From the sophisticated daytime looks to the her most flawless combination, Meghan has been developing an outstanding sense of style, which has made her a fashion icon to all the women. In this article, we will try to give you some assistance on how to recreate Meghan’s signature style.

Midi dresses

Every dress that falls to half way of the ankle and knee is designated as a “midi”. This dress style highlights both the elegance and womanlike. The multiple uses you can give to this piece makes it a good option for any event and for all the bodies. For a more casual look, adding to your ensemble a jacket or a blazer might turn it just into the perfect outfit for any occasion.

Pumps

To Megan Markle, shoes are obviously a concern. Pumps are one of her strong favorites footwear. The closed toe pointy shoes match all her defined styles. This kind of shoes suit every occasion and are timeless, never out of trend. Either if you decide to wear some jeans, coat or a formal dress, pumps will always fit your choices. There is nothing else that can beat the elegance and versatility of a classic pump.

Wide leg pants

Wide leg pants are another preferred option for the Duchess of Sussex. In fact, no wardrobe could possibly be complete without wide leg pants. Meghan is usually spotted wearing these during the day time and her noteworthy trick to make these pants a fashion statement is combining it with a blazer, shirt or coat. This is one of the multiple chic and smart styles Meghan Markle creates based on simplicity.

Fascinators

Formal day events are the spot light to fascinators. This essential piece can’t fail the royalty wardrobe and Meghan can often be seen wearing these during some more formal ceremonies. This option is the perfect match either for a horse race or a wedding festivity.

Blazers

What can go wrong with a simple, fancy blazer? Meghan Markle give us the answer and there is no possible wrong outcome for a piece like this. Her style may look chic and elegant, but the Duchess also likes to add a business touch to her clothes every now and then. She can often be marked with a relaxed sense of style while wearing this fresh edge look.

Belted coats

Being warm in rainy and grey London may be a challenge. However, Meghan Markle proved to us that nothing is impossible to overcome when it comes to fashion. Perfect for any time of the day, the belted coats are an excellent decision for the elegance the Duchess got us used to. The newest member of the British royal family uses this piece with a chunky scarf, a hat or a clutch for a more ‘chic’ look. Incorporating the garment into your closet adds an instant fashion ensemble.

Evening clutches

It may seem challenging to look flawless and simple at the same time but, once again, Markle masters this art. From handheld satchels to leather totes, the Duchess confirms that clutches are far from being impractical. It is not new that she is constantly surrounded by photographers and the press and this fashion piece comes to facilitate their work. Holding a clutch makes the shoulders and arms to fall in a flattering angle, facilitating the capture of images, when intended by her. Whether wearing an astonishing dress or some pantsuits, the clutch comes in addition to complete anyone’s outfit.

Boat neck dresses

Over the past year Meghan has been using several outfits with the boatneck cut. This kind of style has a deep meaning associated: it means glamour mixed with a traditional and polished look. The body figure stands outs in these garments as it tends to make the waist look smaller. Her stunning minimalist wedding grown from the fashion house Givenchy, France, has clearly stated a position in the fashion world which differs her from the rest of the royal members. Dressing like royalty has never been easier.
