For most of us, the national pandemic has changed life as we know it. With social distancing being at the top of the list of the many adjustments we all had to endure, it was only a matter of time before people took the lemons and turn them into lemonade.
Check out how these brides didn’t let social distancing stop them from expressing their love on their wedding day.
Vashtie and her husband got engaged in 2019 and planned to have a big celebration in 2020. Although they postponed the celebration, they still decided to tie the knot at City Hall.
Vashtie wore all white but it was far from a traditional gown. She rocked a white tshirt, white pants by Dickie and all white Air Force1 tennis shoes but the show stopper was a custom floor length durag by Evita Loca. This durag flowed elegantly behind Vashtie and was embellished with jewels and floral detailing. She also wore a pair of long white satin gloves, which took the term “street-glam” to a whole new level.
Another wedding reflecting the current times was the union between Elaine Welteroth and her husband Jonathan Singletary. The two decided to get married on their stoop in Brooklyn, New York.
Those who were in attendance, including actress Lupita Nyongo and fashion model Karlie Kloss, wore white along side the bride and groom. Elaine wore a backless, spaghetti strap dress with a hip length veil. The dress was light and flowy and she paired it with white gloves.

Last night’s episode of Insecure was on the slower end of the spectrum. With the block party firmly in the rear view mirror, and Molly and Issa’s relationship on ice, Issa is left to recover from her crumbling friendship and a successful, yet energy draining event.
She spends most of the episode doing new things: having ‘me time,’ making new (fake) friends, and talking to her mom in a $148 plaid check mini dress by Ganni:
Made from cotton, her brown and black check print ruched dress features a high neck, voluminous long sleeves, a concealed rear zip fastening, ruched detailing and a short length.
In the episode, costume designer Shiona Turini accessorized Issa’s look with comfortable Converse sneakers and a $150 Telfar mini bag.
Telfar is a black designer you should know! He won the 2017 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award, and his trendy bags and separates have been the toast of the fashion town ever since! I love how Shiona incorporates young black designers with European legacy brands. Including both gives us something to aspire to and discover.
With Molly and Condola absent, this episode didn’t have as many fashion moments as usual, but it was impactful!
Chloe x Halle have a new single called Do It! They recently debuted a new Tik Tok video. In it, the adorable duo wore Balmain Spring 2020 runway bodysuits.
Natasha Rothwell aka Kelli is the highlight of every episode! She is hilarious! At any rate, she struck several poses on the Step N Repeat in a suit by Henning:
Condola looked crisp in a full Brandon Maxwell look, comprising a $985 dress and a $595 belt:
In honor of tonight’s episode of Insecure, we are flashing back to an exclusive photo shoot we published 3 years ago featuring Insecure’s Amanda Seales. Check out a preview of tonight’s episode below:
Off the heels of Insecure’s Season Finale, we bring you an exclusive editorial with Amanda Seales (formerly Amanda Diva).
Though she plays the super bougie Tiffany Dubois on the breakout HBO hit, the real Amanda Seales keeps it super down to earth. A self dubbed, ‘Revolutionary Woman,’ she uses her platform to pontificate on politics, civil rights injustices, and cultural issues.
She is known for her smarts and passionate outlook, so stylist and creative director Bryon Javar curated strong, beautiful ensembles to accent her personality, using brands like Ott Dubai, Candice Cucuo, and MacDuggal.

“Style is personal and speaks for you without you having to say a word. Super flared jeans, a Pepto pink Old Navy bubble coat, and Kangols…SO. Many. Kangols! I look back at some of my style choices and just SMH at what they were attempting to say, “sexy?”, “b-girl steez”, “I’M DIFFERENT!”, “New New Yorker in college that doesn’t live with my mom so I can wear what I want”, etc. For a long time my style was speaking for me through how I wanted people to see me.
“Eventually I’d be lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with a number of dope stylists on different projects who helped me to get closer to my own voice. I’d learn different tips and tricks along the way, like, the hair look is a part of the whole look, and that I can pretty much never go wrong in green, or my own rule, the, “I’m giving you ____” principle of color blocking.”
” For instance, if I’m wearing two different versions of pink, I feel like I’m not matching. However, if I hit you with three versions, it ain’t that I’m not matching, I’m, “giving you pink”. I live by this to this day, lol. Anywhoo, even though I always know how to identify and articulate my point of view about seemingly everything, when it came to fashion, I could never find my own words. I didn’t have them because I was more concerned about how my look spoke to others, than how it spoke to me. It was, designer Sharufa Walker, of Jinaki, that changed that.”
“In 2012 we were introduced via a mutual acquaintance who felt we’d work well together. Sharufa began dressing me in her designs for events, but would add pieces from my closet to bring the look together. I would always be amazed at how she’d uncover gems from my drawers and put them in looks in ways that I never would have imagined. Finally, one afternoon when we were doing a fitting, I asked her, “How do you do it? How do you turn these particles in my closet into pieces? How do you give these typically inane items identity?” She told me I needed to change my perspective. “You’re a painter. In your work you do all this dope stuff with color on the canvas. You gotta dress yourself with the same vision. Think of yourself as the canvas. Create art with your clothes.” A lightbulb went off. It was like I’d successfully completed Rosetta Stone for un-stylish. The sky opened up and rained down ideas. I know that may sound like some existential BS to some, but how I was viewing myself truly changed, redefined how I approached style, and how it represented me.”
“I no longer dress based on how I want folks to see me, but how I want to see myself; as art that elevates the vibrance in a room. That doesn’t mean with just colors or prints, that’s also in the confidence of how I feel in my fashion, the distinctness of the pieces, and how they’re paired. I do my best (and sometimes I’m lucky enough to work with a bomb ass stylists like, Bryon Javar) to create/wear looks that, like my artwork, are abstract yet defined, bold and black, eclectic but not eccentric. The same way you walk into a room and marvel at a masterpiece crafted by an artisan of creative vision, when I dress, I want to walk in a room and feel like a masterpiece crafted by my own creative vision, honey! My style, like my voice, is developing every day to emphatically encourage folks to challenge the status quo, comfortably live their truth, and be the light on their own path to joy. Now, when my style speaks for me, it says what I truly am, “This woman is vitality…and won’t take no shit!” “

Bags have been around for ages and they have been so due to its importance in the daily life of a person. Both men and women have found uses on why they are carrying their own bag to school, work, or any other activity there is. They are both for function and vanity, especially for women who consider bags as one of their most essential accessories. In this busy and outgoing world, you can easily put everything you need to survive in a bag and go on your way throughout the day. You can hardly look for an alternative that will serve the same purpose as bags. You can find the simplest one out there to the most sophisticated one and they would still serve the same function. Why have these accessories been essential throughout the ages?
School and Learning
People have been trained to carry bags as soon as they step into schooling. It is almost impossible to find a student without a bag on their back or side. It will carry all the essential things they need for learning, including books, notes, and gadgets. Numerous designs are suited to the needs of students and since problems have been so common among people who are carrying heavy loads on their bags, designs have been modified and improved for the sake of students to still maintain proper posture. Gadgets such as laptops and tablets are also commonly used in schools so there are bags that provide a compartment for such to lessen the chances of breakage from impact and movement.
Work and Employment
A powerful suit to work is completed by a bag that will carry your work essentials for you. Most adults have specific work bags where they put their keys, work gadgets, files, and other folders. Almost every occupation asks for a bag to be used and you rarely see someone leave for the office without a bag in hand. A great bag for work would help you look professional and people commonly use a different bag for this purpose, aside from the one they use for casual or play. It has also been a status symbol for some people because of the credibility and professionalism it can add to a person’s overall look.
Outdoor Activities
Simply going outdoors would ask you to wear bags to carry any stuff you take with you. This is very common among women as they always have something to carry which includes their vanity kit, other accessories, and even so many other kits that contain so many random things. This is even more so for mothers and working girls. For men, they carry bags that look different from women’s handbags. They prefer to use a more versatile and neutral design from a wide range of different sling backpacks which are good enough to carry medium weight while being worn comfortably. These designs allow for better movement, especially if you are on an adventure or any social activity.
Shopping
Going shopping with your bag is much more convenient and friendlier to the environment. It cuts down on your waste and you get to use a reusable bag that is better and sturdier at carrying your groceries and other purchased items. It has become common to bring your bag when buying things to decrease single-use plastics that just add up to waste. No matter what it is that you intend on buying, no matter how big or small, having a bag with you will ensure that you have a proper carrier to put it on.
Fashion Statement
Bags are one of the few things that can be extremely functional while also being extremely fashionable. Its price ranges from affordable to bags worth a fortune. No look is ever complete without a bag and you can have as many as the number of looks and outfits. It has been a closet staple since the fashion industry has created designs that are very appealing especially to women. It’s not just the design, but brands have also been big on bags used for fashion. Numerous designers have made their name by making some of the most famous brands of handbags and they contribute to a multi-million dollar industry which proves how powerful handbags can be.
No matter your purpose, lifestyle, and daily activity, there is a bag that can fit your needs. This necessity has been familiar to everyone as we have used it most of our lives since schooling and will be used further for whatever work that will follow after.
