Diversity in Fashion: Stella Jean, Edward Buchanan of Sansovino, and Michelle Ngonmo Joined Forces to Create ‘We Are Made in Italy’ Dedicated to Five Emerging Black Italian Designers at Milan Fashion Week

Back in August, Italian-Black designer Stella Jean penned a letter and created a video that called out Milan Fashion Week and Nazionale della Moda Italiana (the Italian Chamber of Fashion) for the little inclusion of Black designers at fashion week, leading her to ask the question: Do Black lives matter in Italian fashion? As a result of the video which gained over 11,000 views, it was later announced that five Italian Black designers will show during Milan Fashion Week.

With the help of Stella Jean, Sansovino designer Edward Buchanan, and Milan’s Afro Fashion Week founder Michelle Ngonmo, “We are Made in Italy” was created for the five designers to showcase their talents under Milan Fashion Week’s very first spot dedicated to Black Italian designers. Under the mentorship of Stella Jean, the designers selected for “We are Made in Italy” included Frida Kiza, Mokodu Fall, Giselle Claudia Ntsama of Gisfab Design, Karim Daoudi, and Joy I. Meribe of Modaf Designs.

Stella Jean expressed, “To the Italian brands and the Italian magazines committed to saving the world from racial inequality while claiming total solidarity by posting black squares and supportive quips: I am aware that these creatives who have been at your doorsteps since a long time ago are probably not profitable at the media level, given they are part of the ‘Untold Made in Italy’, which is not quite glamorous enough for promotional usage. But they too deserve an opportunity free of opportunism…don’t you think?“

Nicki Minaj Welcomes Her First Child Into the World With Husband Kenneth Petty!

Back in July, musical artist Nicki Minaj announced her pregnancy to the world with beautiful maternity photos. Just on Wednesday, she gave birth to her first child in Los Angeles, California!

While the sex and name of the baby haven’t been revealed to the public, this is Nicki’s very first child with her long-time beau and husband, Kenneth Petty.

Kerby Jean-Raymond Announced As Vice President of Creative Direction at Reebok

It is no secret that Pyer Moss and Reebok have been frequent collaborators since 2017, creating collections of both apparel and shoes which have sold out in minutes. Back in July of 2019, we received news that Pyer Moss designer Kerby Jean-Raymond has been named as Artistic Director of Reebok’s latest division, Reebok Studies___. Today, Jean-Raymond was appointed into a new position at Reebok, Vice President of Creative Direction!

Essentially, Kerby Jean-Raymond is now a creative director across Reebok’s global span. In his new role, Jean-Raymond will “provide creative leadership across all design disciplines.” He will be working with product, global marketing and development teams in addition to being at the “forefront of Reebok’s ‘Product with Purpose’ program as part of the brand’s United Against Racism commitments.”

Kerby expressed his feelings about the new role: “I am thrilled to be evolving my role at Reebok and joining the leadership team as the head of Creative Direction. I welcome this opportunity to help invigorate the brand with new ideas, while also focusing on instilling a sense of social purpose into our work.”

You can expect first looks at products under the creative direction of Kerby Jean-Raymond starting in 2022. The next year will be a busy and fulfilling one for the designer as he will be furthering the Pyer Moss brand and Your Friends in New York platform as well!

Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Brand Taps Christian Combs for First-Ever Men’s Collection

After announcing that Fenty Skin is also for men, music artist and entrepreneur Rihanna announced that Savage X Fenty will be releasing its very first men’s collection on October 2nd after the premiere of the second Savage X Fenty fashion show on Amazon!

Rapper and Diddy’s son Christian Combs was tapped by the Savage X brand to help in creating and heading the campaign for the upcoming men’s collection. This isn’t Combs’s first encounter with the lingerie brand as he walked in last year’s Savage X fashion show at September’s New York Fashion Week.

Rihanna expressed in a recent press release, “I wanted to create menswear styles that everyone can wear. And after Christian did such a great job at the 2019 fashion show wearing men’s, I knew we had to have him as a collaborator.“

The Savage X Fenty menswear collection will feature underwear and loungewear including boxers and Savage X monogram print pajamas following a blue, black, and red color palette. Prices will range from $12.95 to $69.95.

You can catch glimpses of the pieces on Friday, October 2nd during Savage X Fenty’s fashion show on Amazon. You can then shop the collection following the premiere of the show!
