Tips and Outfit Ideas For Sweatshirts

Everyone loves sweatshirts for their comfort, but when paired with the right outfits, they can be integrated into any occasion in a versatile way.

This collarless garment was initially associated with sporty looks and relaxed clothes for lazy Sundays. But the way they are worn has changed as time passed. In modern times, the sweatshirt is acceptable for streetwear or loungewear. Today, sweatshirts have embraced a variety of cuts, patterns, and prints.  Some of these versatile pieces are crafted with details like zippers and hoods. There’s a sweatshirt to fit every need. All these options can make it overwhelming to build your desired look. In this article, we have made a guide about how to wear sweatshirts for a stylish yet laid-back appearance.

Dressing up your favorite sweatshirt

Sweatshirts are often neglected when it comes to styling, whereas their versatility allows them to blend into any occasion when worn in the right way. Follow these tips to get a mixture of professional and casual outlooks with your sweatshirts.

What to wear on the top

  1. You may try wearing a button-down shirt or polo under your sweatshirt. Let the collar stick out over the neckline to add more panache to your look. Tucking in your shirt is not necessary; let it hang out at the bottom and roll up the sleeve slightly over your sweatshirt’s cuff to create a contrast. This look never goes out of style and makes you appear bold and distinct.
  2. Go with a solid crew neck sweatshirt when you are opting for an easygoing look. Are you thinking of something a bit more casual? Some simple graphics will do the job just fine.
  3. Grab a blazer from your wardrobe to add a finishing touch. Rock a tee underneath and let it pop out a bit. This outlook is great for going to parties and events.

What to wear on the bottom

  1. There is nothing better to wear with a sweatshirt than a pair of jeans. It doesn’t matter what kind of jeans you are wearing; any type is good to go.
  2. Wear a striking sweatshirt with darker jeans for a distinctive look. Wrap a wool scarf around your neck for added comfort.
  3. Don’t neglect your footwear when building your look. A nice pair of loafers or sneakers look really nice with such outfits. Wear your sweatshirts with khaki shorts when hanging out with your friends on a cool summer night.

To top it off, wear nice watches with simple but elegant faces and bands. On a sunny day, sunglasses and hats will add more texture to your appearance.

Wearing oversized sweatshirts the right way

Who isn’t fond of oversized sweatshirts? They are the best thing to wear when you are feeling lazy and casual or when you need to run a quick errand. There is no particular season for wearing this comfy outfit, and here are some of the ways to rock it for both men and women.

How women can style an oversized sweatshirt

The oversized sweatshirt has more versatility than any other garment. They are loved by all for being very comfortable yet chic.

Options for bottoms

  1. You can wear it as a dress with no pants. A long sweatshirt creates the perfect look for streetwear.
  2. Denim and sweatshirts are made for each other. They are always a perfect combination, whether it’s a regular fit or oversized. Washed or ripped jeans always compliment them and add more texture.
  3. When trying to get a sporty look, try wearing them with leggings or yoga pants. Skin Tight bottoms are always a good combination with an oversized sweatshirt.
  4. Joggers are to your legs what sweatshirts are to your top. Pair your sweatshirt with slim-fit joggers and tapered ankles for the ultimate comfort duo.

The cherry on top

  1. Add a touch of sass to your look with thigh-high boots. Wearing an oversized sweatshirt as a dress paired with thigh-high boots will send a message to anyone who tries to mess with you.
  2. Sneakers or canvas shoes are the right choices when you are looking for some extra flair. Try some colorful footwear with solid sweatshirts to create the right focus.
  3. Layer your sweatshirt with a jacket to bring out your optimum look. Be it a jeans or a bomber jacket, sweatshirts always look better when layered appropriately.

How men can style an oversized sweatshirt

It’s all about how you pair your clothes. When done right, everyone’s jaws will drop at your style.

Options for bottoms

  1. Oversized sweatshirts look best with slim-fit pants. This will provide you with the edge to look put together while you stay relaxed all day.
  2. Joggers don’t differentiate between men and women. They tend to look good on both equally. They have a trendy look that’s practical yet stylish. Make sure they are a slim fit and you are good to rock the world while staying in your comfort zone.
  3. And there are jeans, an old pal to an oversized sweatshirt. Ripped jeans or acid-washed, both are going to work well while keeping you cozy and warm.
  4. If you are in a lazy mood, sweatpants are the best thing to pair with your sweatshirt.

The cherry on top

  1. Hang a jacket over your shoulder for a sleek street look. No need to worry about the belt if it comes below the jacket. Go to the hair salon for a fresh trim, and you are good to go.
  2. Nothing can go wrong with a nice pair of sandals to go with your sweatshirts. It doesn’t matter whether they are slides or flip-flops, they will compliment your outfit.

Some must have sweatshirts

Camo printed sweatshirts are trendy and are all over the streets. Inspired by military wear, this sweatshirt is the right way to gear up your ensemble. Match them with a pair of joggers, and you are set for an adventurous trip.

Alphanumeric printed sweatshirts can add character to your regular outfit. Couple your black one with white chinos for a day out with your friends.

An embellished sweatshirt is a must-have item for your wardrobe. This piece can fall under the smart-casual category too. They will prepare you perfectly for nights out with friends if teamed with a blazer and a nice pair of shoes.

Fashion Discussion: Should Black Women Wear Bonnets in the Airport? Monique Speaks Out

Black women’s hair is their crown and glory, and many of us protect it all all costs and in all spaces–even in public or at the airport.

Comedian and ‘Auntie’ Monique took to Instagram recently to speak out against this practice, urging young black women to take pride in their appearance and carry themselves like “Queens.” Read more below:

Adhering to the politics of respectability,  which was first used in the context of Black women and their efforts to distance themselves from the stereotypical and disrespected tropes of being lower class or unkempt, Monique’s take is pretty old school. In fact, because blacks were historically so often discriminated against by the majority, they were urged to prove their humanity by going over and above in presenting a polished exterior. If the world assumed they were ‘less than,’ they were going to overcompensate, and show that they were more.

The need for many of us to overcompensate and overdress persists to this day, with African-American stars arguably sporting more labels, gold chains, and lace fronts than their counterparts. However, it seems that some of the younger generation no longer care about what the outside world may think. @_Topanga said, “My thing will always be: we were getting lynched, shot, beat, raped, killed, spat, had dogs on us, set ablaze, attached, disrespected in our Sunday best for just being. So to say we should take a little more pride in ourself and what we wear [is ridiculous]. I’m gonna wear my bonnet, head scarf, PROUDLY.”

To each their own, indeed. And neither a blog post nor a video from Monique can make anyone do anything they don’t want to do. That said, our culture still battles with images of perception, and sometimes perception is everything. I personally think that while you still may get disrespected…the chances of you being disrespected in a suit is way lower than if you were wearing pajamas and a bonnet.

It’s also about having pride in your appearance. Showing you have respect enough for yourself to groom yourself–even minimally. If not, why not just walk around every day wearing rags? There’s a reason…

What do you think? Do you think it’s ok for black women to wear bonnets in the airport? Let us know below:

Choosing The Right Trendy Outfit Idea For Any Occasion

It doesn’t matter whether summer is just beginning or just ending, there are plenty of reasons to get dressed up and look your best. In fact, with the restrictions placed on so many people by the global pandemic you don’t even need a reason to get dressed in your finest.

Of course, that is the real issue. The moment you realize you have a special occasion to attend you will look at your wardrobe and realize that you need something different. Your issue becomes one of what trendy outfit idea do you choose and where do you get it from.

Considering Renting

This isn’t the first thing that comes to most people’s minds but it should be! It can be hard to keep up with all the latest fashiaons and trends. In other words, it is easy to make a faux pas than you realize. However, if you take a look at a company specializing in ball dress hire then you know that you are looking at dresses that are currently in fashion.

That removes the biggest part of the problem.

The second part is cost. Purchasing the latest fashionable outfits is not usually a cheap option. However, you can rent an outfit that you wouldn’t normally be able to afford. Not only will you look fantastic but is likely to be cheaper than purchasing an outfit. If you are still not convinced think about how much you would spend on an outfit for a special occasion and then never wear the outfit again. Renting becomes an attractive option.

Consider The Occasion

While a rental site will help you to find the perfect, and trendy, outfit, you also need to consider where you are going. There is a big difference between a formal ball and a party on a boat. In addition, you should note what the event is in aid of. This will help you to choose between a dress, something more casual, or even something more formal.

Talk To Friends

If you are going shopping for a new dress you will probably take at least one trusted friend to get their opinion. You should do the same when looking online at rentals. In addition, your friend may give you guidance regarding which of the current trendy styles is best for you and the occasion.

It can be very useful to have an independent and honest opinion.

Know Your Fashion

Of course, if you want to be trendy you need to keep up with the latest fashion. If you don’t you may look fabulous but inappropriate!

Currently, comfortable but stylish is very popular. This is because of the restrictions imposed by lockdowns. It will take a while to shake these trends. This doesn’t mean you can put anything on that is comfortable. You need to ensure your clothes are relatively form-fitting.

If you want to dress it up then the jumper dress is making a comeback but it is still hard to beat slipping into a designer frock and being the toast of any occasion.
