Collaborations have become a huge deal in the fashion industry, merging the worlds of two brands for game-changing collections and innovative marketing rollouts. In 2021, we were graced with some of the most internet-breaking fashion collaborations including Fendi x SKIMS and Kanye West’s Yeezy x GAP. Without further ado, we present the nominees for Collaboration of the Year:

1. Telfar x UGG

Last year, we received news that cult brand Telfar and Australian footwear brand UGG would be teaming up for a collection. Fast forward to 2021, the duo unveiled their collection which reimagined heritage silhouettes of both brands. Telfar’s shopping bags found themselves dressed in the UGG boot’s iconic chestnut suede and shearling while the classic UGG boot features Telfar’s hard-to-miss logo.

The partnership has also debuted lifestyle apparel like hoodies, sweatpants, leggings, t-shirts, robes and boxers as well as other iterations of footwear and handbags. Together, the duo shook the fashion world with a collection that offered all the cozy feels of UGG and the ultra-cool aesthetic of Telfar.

2. Fendi x SKIMS

After rumors hit the internet of their collaboration, Kim Kardashian of SKIMS and Kim Jones of Fendi’s womenswear made the announcement in the sophisticated manner of a Wall Street Journal Magazine cover, as they were honored with awards by the magazine. Posing as the first-of-its-kind collaboration, the collection combined the heritage luxury of Fendi with SKIMS’s innovation in shapewear and basics. Essentially, they birthed a limited edition ready-to-wear collection of co-branded apparel pieces meant for the modern woman.

Following a rather neutral color palette matched with a pop of pink, the well-known Fendi “FF” monogram finds itself throughout the collection, stamped on pieces such as jumpsuits, puffer jackets, tights, and more. Lala, Coi Leray, Sabrina Elba were fans of this collaboration.

3. Balenciaga x Gucci

Perhaps the biggest high-fashion mashup we’ve seen this year, Gucci and Balenciaga joined forces for Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2021 “Aria” collection. Essentially, “The Hacker Project” duo teamed up for an eye-catching, logomania collaboration including reinterpretations of classic models of both brands. Celebrities like Lady Gaga, Mary J. Blige, and Miley Cyrus have been spotted in the collaborative pieces.

A dazzling Gucci Flora print suit can be seen sporting the Balenciaga logo allover while the Gucci “GG” motif appears on the Balenciaga “Knife” boot. Other notable pieces of collaboration include joint Triple S sneakers, a Dionysus bag, and more.

4. Yeezy x GAP

After several teases, Yeezy and Gap dropped the first piece of their collaboration this summer: the Round Jacket in blue. While Gap has been known to supply timeless basics, the same apparel category has become somewhat of a go-to for Kanye West, with the rapper often making the pieces bigger and cozier with oversized fits in neutral colorways. When you think about, the partnership was basically a match made in heaven.

The Round Jacket has dropped in red and black in addition to its blue color. Not to mention, the brands recently released hoodies in six colorways back in September, with drops strategically coinciding with the DONDA album promotional efforts.

5. Romeo Hunte x Tommy Hilfiger

Back in August, Tommy Hilfiger and Romeo Hunte teamed up for a collaboration that was “remixed, remade, and reimagined for today”. The partnership served as a part of the People’s Place Program which creates opportunities and celebrates the talents of BIPOC communities. Black designer Romeo Hunte revamped classic Tommy Hilfiger silhouettes for a “Manhattan prep meets Brooklyn street” mashup. Hunte brought his signature design elements of reconstruction and mixed prints to Tommy Hilfiger’s iconic archives, elevating timeless pieces with DIY style elements, utilitarian details, and patchwork designs as well as plethora of color.

Noteworthy pieces of the collaboration include the colorblock trench coat, striped polo shirt and matching shorts, heeled boot, and puffer jacket. Celebrities like Maluma, Mack Wilds, Lewis Hamilton and more have been spied in the collaboration’s pieces.

6. Louis Vuitton x NBA

After teaming up in 2020, Louis Vuitton and the NBA teamed up for a second installment of their three-year partnership. Known as the Louis Vuitton x NBA Capsule Collection II, the Pre-Fall 2021 collection essentially continued the aesthetic of the first release along with the introduction of some new pieces. With Louis Vuitton menswear led by the design eye of the late Virgil Abloh, pieces channeled the 90s NBA era with vibrant letterings and graphics matched with the iconic Louis Vuitton monogram. Ultimately, the collection merged luxury, streetwear, and sports for a collection that celebrates “transversality”.

A few pieces, like the Keepall bag, were designed in collaboration with Don Crawley aka Don C, a longtime friend and collaborator of Abloh’s. Perhaps the most standout piece from the collection is their limited edition Wilson basketballs, a first-ever piece for the Louis Vuitton fashion house. Other products from the collection include emblematic handbags like the netted ball pouches, scarves, jewelry, footwear, belts, varsity jackets, and more.

Erica paired her set with Yeezy sneakers and earrings.

Safire wore Fashion Nova’s $34.99 Mini Back On Track Leopard Suede Jogger Set. She paired her set with white Nike sneakers and stud earrings.

Liza Koshy recently appeared on The Tonight Show with host Jimmy Fallon, where she stepped on the scene delivering a dance number with Fallon in a dazzling black look.

Liza Koshy wore a Haleia Fall 2021 Couture $665 flower and feather decorated bustier and $830 velvet flared-leg pants, giving us all the feels of 1920s-meets-modern glam. The look was completed with black Christian Louboutin platform heels and Melinda Maria jewelry. Her look was styled by Alexandra Mandelkorn.

Through her Instagram story, Rihanna modeled the latest collection from her Savage X Fenty lingerie brand where the singer shook up the internet with a look that made plaid look sexy.

From the Tied-Up Tartan collection, Rihanna wore Savage X Fenty’s $32.95 Tied Up Tartan Bralette, $64.95 Tied Up Tartan PJ Raw Hem Sleep Shirt, and $44.95 Tied Up Tartan Sleep Short. Beyoncé confirmed a new Ivy Park x adidas collection is on the way with the latest campaign photos of her rocking potential pieces from the upcoming release.

Beyoncé was spotted on a tennis court surrounded by tennis balls wearing a lime green look including a long jacket, turtleneck bodysuit, and sock boots. She rounded the look off with sunglasses and a tennis racket.

She was also spotted striking a pose by a house in a mixed houndstooth print sleeveless zippered top and high-waisted leggings.

The latest Ivy Park x adidas collection is assumed to be titled “HALLS OF IVY”, channeling the ivy league aesthetic with styles influenced by collegiate-sport styles.

Kelly Rowland was amongst the many celebrity faces at the 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as the singer rode a float and sang live during the famous annual Thanksgiving event in NYC. For her appearance, she stunned in a custom green look.

Porsha Williams expressed the many things she was thankful for, with her adorable daughter Pilar Jhena being one of those cherished gifts. Celebrating the day of giving thanks in style, the mother and daughter duo were spotted posing together in chic looks on Thanksgiving.

When it comes to choosing the right pair of tights, there are a lot of factors to consider, from the weight, size, and length of your tights to their design, fit, and color. Most of us will only think of these when adding them to our shopping cart—and they are very important—but another factor to remember is the durability of the tights you wear.

You might not think much of having to replace your tights every other month, especially if they’re already worn down, but investing in a good pair that lasts longer and looks and feels good also has its benefits. Here’s why:

Maybe you’re out on a fancy night out, or maybe you’re on a casual walk on a cold day. Either way, you wouldn’t want your tights to suddenly rip in public because they’re simply not durable enough or are the wrong size. If anything should motivate you to start shopping for more quality tights, it’s that you wouldn’t want an embarrassing fashion faux pas to happen while interacting with other people.

You can start by selecting a thicker denier to make sure that the tights hold well up together, especially if you expect them to get stretched out a lot. Simply put, the denier is the thickness of the material of your tights. It’s important to know the reason you’re wearing your tights, so you know the correct thickness of tights to put on. For example, sheer tights would be best on warmer days, while thicker deniers (30 and higher) would be good for the winter. 

Selecting a more durable denier is particularly helpful for tights you often walk around in. However, we don’t always want to use the same type of tights on all occasions, so another thing you might want to look into when selecting a durable pair of tights is their fit. If the ones you’ve chosen are too tight, they’ll end up ripping somewhere along the way. Consult your standard size chart to make the most out of your experience.

The perfect pair of tights will provide the best comfort and support on top of making you look good. That said, it’s easier to identify a bad pair of tights than it is to find a good pair. So, to avoid getting a pair of tights that aren’t for you, you’ll want to look at how well it fits you. Something that pinches your waist too much, or overstretched fabric, is definitely a size too small. Conversely, if the tights feel loose or baggy around your waist, then they’re clearly too big. A good pair would be somewhere in the middle of hugging your shape while giving you enough room to breathe. 

Another factor to consider when it comes to comfort is how your tights make you feel. Comfort is more than just a physical experience but is also about how good you feel wearing something. Something that makes you feel out of place at a function should also be crossed off the list of tights to wear to that specific event. Using our earlier examples on winter tights, you wouldn’t want to wear tights that are too sheer if you’ll be going somewhere pretty cold.

You’ll Feel Confident

Related to the previous point, the right pair of tights will give you a confidence boost. This naturally follows the comfort you feel wearing your tights. Several things factor into the confidence one feels when wearing a good pair of tights. This could be that the design is your favorite or simply that your tights make your legs look a little more flawless.

How confident you feel in your chosen pair of tights is where the creativity of choosing your perfect pair comes in.

First thing’s first, when choosing tights that will boost your confidence, look for a design that you like. Whether this means looking for a pair with a nice print on them or getting tights with a solid color that’s your favorite, it will really depend on your preference.

Of course, it’s also a matter of choosing a pair of tights that are suitable for the event or occasion you’re wearing them to. For example, flashy and bright tights won’t be appreciated at an event that calls for a more serious tone, like a formal event or business meeting.

Once you’ve settled on a good design, consider the other factors that were earlier discussed. How often will you be using your tights, and, in relation to this, how durable are they? How far can they stretch, and are they a good fit? These are just some foods for thought that you can test out as you select a pair that suits your needs.

Your Tights Will Adjust to You

While your tights should often fit your form perfectly, leaving a little leeway for some weight gain or loss is also important. Often, certain factors like our diet or our health will lead to weight fluctuations. In such instances, we mustn’t need to go on an entire shopping spree again just to find clothes that will fit us when this happens. Not only is this costly, but it’s also emotionally exhausting to select a new set of clothes every time your waist widens or shrinks a little. When it comes to tights, at least, your clothes should adjust to you and not the other way around.

How to Shop Right

The flexibility of the fabric is something you’ll want to look into. While you don’t want to select a size that’s too big or too tight off the bat, you can test how stretchable your tights’ fabric is by placing your hand inside one of the tights’ legs and stretching out your hand. If your leggings are supposed to be thicker, the skin of your hand should barely be visible underneath the fabric. However, if your leggings are supposed to be sheer, make sure that the fabric doesn’t start to rip when you test it. You can use this as a basis when you’re shopping for your next pair online.

If you’re not confident that this test will work out, you can resort to going one size up, or keeping a backup pair just in case your size changes over the course of a year. Just remember to store your leggings correctly so that they don’t deteriorate easily after remaining unused for some time. 

You’ll Save Money

The most important reason to invest in your tights is how it will save you the cost of acquiring a new pair every time. Cost-efficiency, of course, also involves selecting a pair that makes you both feel good and look good at a reasonable price. We don’t want you to feel disappointed because the cute tights you bought only lasted after three to five uses. You can also think of it as prolonging the time you get to use your favorite tights. 

How to Shop Right

In selecting a pair that will give you the best value for your money, you should again think about durability. How often can you use a certain pair of tights before they begin to show signs of wear and tear? How long can you use particular types of tights? These are some questions to keep in mind when selecting your next pair of tights.

The length of time it takes to wear down your tights should at least surpass a few months to a year for tights made of thinner material, while they should at least last you some years for tights made of thicker deniers. This will maximize the money you’re spending on that pair you’ve been eyeing for some time now. At the same time, it’s not just about spending less on one purchase. Make sure you’re buying from brands that have good reviews and are known for their high-quality materials and production. You can’t go wrong with a slightly more expensive buy that would last you longer.

When it comes to shopping for tights, you must take the time to consider the best pair that will serve you best. Investing in your tights will give you plenty of benefits, like making you look and feel good, boosting your confidence, and giving you your money’s worth. Shopping right involves considering the right occasion to wear certain pairs of tights, how long you intend to use them, and whether you’re wearing the right fit. Putting all these into perspective will give you the best experience with a comfortable pair that won’t let you down.
