Comme des Garçons for H&M: New York

This is crazier than Cavalli!

And that overheard quote, Fashion Bombers, sums up the excitement and madness of the Comme des Garçons for H&M launch at their 5th Avenue flagship in NYC! I got there at 9 on the dizz-ot and already the line was well around the corner:

h-m-comme-des-garcons-new-y

There were so many people that the store decided to open an hour early and then…pandemonium! It was IN-SANE. The much-hyped $349 dress was gone before I could even spot it; shoppers were tripping over each other, grabbing anything they could off the racks, and pushing any and everyone aside! People were even trying to rip the clothes off the mannequins!
This one was such a target that it had to be assigned a bodyguard. The excitement was a lot of fun but, overall, I felt a little let down by the clothes. It seemed like the accessories (scarves, hats, sneakers) were the more fun items. Most people, however, thought otherwise–like this young lady, who was so overwhelmed she could only feebly nod when I asked to take her picture! There was, of course, some fierce Real Style on the scene. I caught a few stylistas (including some men’s style) who were also die-hard CDG fans:
Even Fashion Bomb friend and celebrity stylist Alexander Allen was in the building:

Yours truly then got in line with everyone else (I did find some cool jodhpur-like pants) and called it a morning:All in all: bananas but definitely fun!
Special thanks to Real Stylers Folami, Kalifa, Simone, and Jamillah!

Comme des Garçons for H&M: Paris

Wow guys,
This morning was a hot mess!! I woke up early enough to make my way to the H&M at St. Lazare (at the recommendation of a few friends). I rushed and got there by 9:30 only to find it wasn’t having Comme des Garçons festivities!!! Thinking fast, I ran to the H&M on Rue de Rivoli and got there by 9:50. Didn’t have a ton of time, but had to get video:

Trust me, it was hard to find anyone who spoke English, but I did my best!!
Enjoy!!!
Stay tuned for Adriana’s NYC recap!

Hey!
So winter has begun in earnest, and for some of us, it’s way past time to pull out those old down jackets and wool coats. If you’re tired of your drab black and gray uniform, The Fashion Bomb is here to give you 5 ideas to revive your wardrobe:
1. Interesting Tights

NYScene: DL 1961 Jeans Preview, TresEmme at Robert Verdi’s

Hey guys,
So, the day after Election Day dawned bright and beautiful. Our new Prez-elect wasted no time getting to work, and neither did the Fashion Bomb! It was a busy day for NYC events.
First stop was the showroom for a new jean brand called DL 1961, which are my latest obsession:

dl1961studio

Containing a material called XFIT Lycra, these jeans have 360 degree movement (which means they maintain their shape and don’t sag).
The denim was super-soft, like a second-skin, and there was no awkward adjusting of hips and legs ( if you’re a curvy girl you know exactly what I mean!!!). I covet!
After DL 1961, I headed over to Robert Verdi’s Lounge:Where he hosted TresEmmé’s launch of its new StyleSeeker site. I got the chance to do a few things, including get my ‘do freshened up:And chat with the fabulous Monsieur Verdi himself (I’m grinning super-hard here!). He sends bisous to Claire:So it was a great fashion day: discovering a dope new brand, a little pampering, and Robert Verdi. What else could a girl want…oh–yes! For you to check out StyleSeeker! It’s a great new community site centered on all things style: hair, fashion, entertainment, and events, included. Stop by and tell ’em the FB sent ya!

Urban Men’s Fashion Flash

The Fashion Bomb doesn’t do nearly enough men’s style, but it’s almost impossible to overlook a recent trend amongst the urban set:

pee-wee-malcolm

…a bow tied and bespectacled appearance we’ll call Pee Wee Herman meets Malcolm X.
Of course it started with our 808’s and Heartbreak Style Czar K. West:
Then crept into Common’s closet…
And now it seems more and more MC’s are trading in their dark shades for the wide rimmed or tortoise shell variety:
As they become older and more accomplished, it seems they’re fine with expressing who they truly are:
…men with tons of intelligence who’ve used a combo of bragadoccio and brains to broker business deals worth millions.
Ladies you gotta admit: isn’t there something intriguing about intellect?

Throwback: Guess Jeans

There were plenty of ’80s-’90s designer jean “status” labels: Sergio Valente, Girbaud, Jordache. But none gave you more instant cache than that little triangle on your back pocket…

guess-jean-logo

Guess Jeans! With their second-skin fit, cool washes, and ads featuring style icons like Naomi Campbell, Anna Nicole Smith, Claudia Schiffer, and Drew Barrymore, the Guess formula of sexy+chic+celebrity=trend explosion broke ground for much of the denim craze we see today. And…

(I told y’all we were going back today!)
There was probably no better ad for Guess jeans than Janet’s “Pleasure Principle” video (you know you tried to do this dance–Guess jeans or not–at least once!).And could you Guess that:
-Guess Jeans ran about $60 a pair–about $100-$150 in today’s money?
-Guess was created as “American West meets European Sensibility?”
-Everyone from Miss Jackson to Grandmaster Flash to Wu-Tang have paid tribute to Guess in some way?
-The company currently focuses more on accessories and has launched independent Guess accessory stores ?
Tell us your Guess memories 😉
