Throwback Viddy: Mona Lisa’s "Can’t Be Wasting My Time"

This video is so quintessentially 1996, I can’t decide where to start.

What’s more ’90s?
-Is it Mona’s doobie?
-The choreography reminiscent of the school talent shows everyone used to do?
The Tyrin Turner cameo (the frame at the very end is worthy of a “Me and My Boo” t-shirt at Six Flags)?
-That this was probably the best thing to come out of “Don’t Be A Menace While Drinking Your Juice…” (it was on the soundtrack)
What do y’all think? Still the jam, tho!

~Mona Adri (I’m might have to go cop that doobie and some $54.11s now)

Cathy Horyn Asks: What’s Wrong with Vogue?

We here at the Fashion Bomb have been giving Vogue the side eye for quite a while, but it’s a whole different discussion when editor Cathy Horyn of the New York Times/ International Herald Tribune asks, “What’s Wrong with Vogue?”

vogue

In a January 1st article, she says, “There are too many stories about socialites or, at any rate, too few such stories that sufficiently demonstrate why we should care about these creatures. What once felt like a jolly skip through Bergdorf now feels like an intravenous feed. To read Vogue in recent years is to wonder about the peculiar fascination for the “villa in Tuscany” story. Ditto staff-member accounts of spa treatments and haircuts.” She pokes fun at Vogue’s attempt to deal with the recession by having a staffer go discover the ‘Wonders of Walmart,’ and says that Vogue, along with other fashion magazines, “do not seem to know how to relate to women in their 20s, except to throw celebrity pictures and clothes at them.” Ouch.

Sort of obsessed with that beige cap sleeved number. Do you like?

Uh, is this Movie about Me?

Just ran across a preview for Confessions of a Shopaholic:

It looks so cute!
It reminds me of life in New York–fighting over items at sample sales, great clothes, working at a magazine…I’m totally seeing this!!

Roberto Cavalli Credit Card

BlackBook Mag reports that Roberto Cavalli has designed the ultimate in luxury: a snake skinned gilded credit card that allows you to shop in style while enjoying quite a few perks…

roberto-cavalli-mastercard

Quels perks you ask? Special VIP services at every Cavalli boutique worldwide, sale privileges, and invitations to fashion shows and events.
The card is cute, but unless it also has the magical ability to forgive debt, I’ll have to pass. You can put lipstick on a pig…

Splurge of the Day: Jimmy Choo x Hunter Wellies

WWD reports that shoe designer Jimmy Choo and rain boot regular Hunter have collaborated to create a boot that signals the ultimate in shoe sophistication:

Retailing for $395, these slick wellies will be sold in Jimmy Choo stores and online beginning next June.
Hot boots, but may I offer a simple observation to my American Amies: I brought my pair of Burberry wellies with me to Paris, and pulled them out without hesitation when there was even a soupcon of rain. To my surprise, Parisians don’t really do rain boots…nor do they do snow boots (yup, I pulled out my Lacostes for a recent snow storm). For them it seems the same leather boots work in all weather conditions–and the whole idea of multiple shoe changes for a hint of crazy weather is a very American thing. With that said, ladies, these shoes are strictly a splurge: droolworthy puddle pushers that will make you the hottest chick in a rainstorm. But are they necessary? Not so much!

Is Fashion in Danger?

Fashion Bomber Britany D recently wrote in, saying, “I am debating between careers!! I really love fashion and planned on becoming a fashion buyer or working in a fashion house…but with how the economy is going and how retail stores are plummeting I’m scared that my love for fashion will be short lived.”

fashionindanger

“Do you think that someone trying to get into the fashion industry will still be a good idea?”
I personally feel that in life, you do your best work when you’re doing something you absolutely love. You spend most of your life working–and while the safety and security of a ho hum job is appealing, passion–doing something you’d do for free–will see you through for the long haul (i.e. a career).
Need to know the difference between a job and a career? Ask Chris Rock:

I personally don’t think fashion is going anywhere. As long as women feel the need to get dressed and look fly, there will always be a market for fashion buyers and designers. Perhaps it won’t exist in the same forms as exist now…department stores might falter only to have new ones appear in their place; you might have to intern at the new ‘Macy’s’ and work a part time job on the side; or take on an up and coming designer. Who knows? But I think if you truly have a passion, go for it!!
What advice would you offer our young Britany?
And do you think Fashion is in Danger?
PS Chris has gone a lot further pursuing his comedy career versus his Red Lobster job…

Hot! or Hmm..:NYE Edition

It seems lots of celebs opted to stay out of the limelight this NYE, though a few made it out to big bashes. Let’s check ’em out:
Beyonce and Mimi partied it up in St. Barths along with Marc Jacobs, L.A. Reid, and others:

beyonce-jay-z-ma9f0d73

Gotta give it to Mariah on this one. Her silver strapless is so so hot, and the perfect way to start off a New Year. Bey’s look is cute, but its recycled status gets a Hmm (Solange rocked a similar frock in Japan). Hmm…
The Kardashian sisters came out in metallic sequined glory:
I love it. They look Hot, matching frocks and all.
T.I. was putting in work down in Miami:
Um, when does this man not look hot?
And Jaslene and Kenan Thompson also kicked it at the T.I. Party:
Jaslene’s jumper is hot, saucy, and fun…unlike Kenan’s striped polo and jeans. His look is much better suited for a day on the boardwalk not a New Years Bash. Hmm…
What do you think?
