Fashionista.com reports that Scott Schuman, also known as the Sartorialist, has inked a book deal with Penguin Books:
Not familiar? The Sartorialist snaps shots of the most fashionable subjects in the streets, then publishes them on his world famous blog. Now his readers get to see his pictures in print form, with a 500 page book set to hit bookshelves in September 2009.
Now that bloggers are inking book deals, the little wheels in my head are turning. Would y’all buy a book on black style?

If you watch Lloyd Boston on TV often, then you know one of his favorite exclamations is “I love my job!” Why? Well, when Oprah herself has you on speed-dial, and you’re the best-selling author of three style bibles, spokesperson for one of the world’s leading apparel companies, Jones New York, and arguably the most popular style commenter on television, it’s not all that hard to understand!
With over 150 appearances on NBC’sToday show and numerous guest spots on Oprah, E!, The View, and CNN, as well as focused broadcast work for over 16 seasons on New York’s “Full Frontal Fashion,” Lloyd is one of THE authorities on contemporary style!I interviewed Lloyd to ask, among other things, how he turned an internship at 19 with Tommy Hilfiger into a highly successful, multifaceted career as a coveted style guru. “When stepping into this business, you should be prepared to compete with the best. Many young professionals think that entering fashion means creating a persona that is unlike who they are. I always follow the old adage that “it is nice to be important, but more important to be nice.”” Take it from a superstar! For those of you hesitant about breaking into fashion right now, Lloyd astutely points out, “There is so much style available that this might be the best time for design in general”from clothes to home furnishings, and beyond.” Also remember that stylists succeed not just by creating chic looks, but if they can teach their clients how to do so, too! Lloyd’s rules to self-style by include:1. “Buy the size that fits, not the size you hope to be.“
2. “Wearing white all year round is chic if the fabric is seasonally appropriate!“
3. “If you can’t see it, you won’t wear it. Organizing and editing your closet is the first step to looking chic.“
Aspiring style gurus take note! For guys looking to step up their style game, Lloyd suggests taking cues from Andre 3000, Terrence Howard, and Diddy, who, “has stood the test of time, from tuxes to timbs!” He also counts Tommy Hilfiger, J. Crew, Viktor & Rolf, Paul Smith, and Domenico Vacca among his favorite designers. And what does this ultimate style dynamo hold near and dear from his own personal closet?“Definitely my Stubbs and Wootton velvet Buddha slippers, my black Gucci suit, my J.Crew chinos, and my laceless leather Jack Purcells. And anything from Kiehl’s.” And Lloyd, can you please let a Fashion Bombshell know how you feel about all of these crazy statement bags on the red carpet? “As a clutch, chic. Any bigger, so last week.“
If that’s not the best “amen” I’ve received from the choir (y’all know it’s kind of a pet peeve)… Thank you, Mr. Boston!
Be sure to catch Lloyd’s new show, “Closet Cases,” which debuts on the Fine Living Network in April!

The Golden Globes were in full effect this weekend with a bevy of bomb beauties representing on the red carpet. You tell me, were their outfits Hot? Or did they make you go Hmmm…. Beyonce stunted in this strapless metallic Elie Saab number…
I’m loving the dramatic necklace along with her teardrop earrings. The thigh length slit on her gown is a little hmm, but overall snaps to Bey. She looked hot! America Ferrera also went for metallic in this silver one shouldered Oscar de la Renta… This is how you do a non-floor-length dress to an awards show. Hot!
Undercover fashionista Taraji Henson opted for a floral print with a cascading train… …Hmmm, I was hoping for something a little hotter. A nice look, but I’ve seen her with more sass! Eva Mendes went for white in this Dior gown… Like Bey, I love her necklace, but what’s up the the huge bow? Hmm… Salma Hayek also showed out in a white Dior gown… ..this choice hits her curves in all the right places. Hot! Hot! Hot! Eva Longoria Parker was ravishing in a red Reem Accra… …lovely fabric and a wonderful fit. Hot!
Lastly, Jenny from the block made an appearance in a gold Marchesa floor grazer… …um, is that crushed velvet? I’m having flashbacks to her Diddy days with the low cut front and back. Hmm….

Famous drag queen Rupaul will debut a new show called Rupaul’s Drag Race February 2nd on the Logo channel…
She’ll be coaching and judging 9 drag queens, with Project Runway vet Santino Rice sitting on the judges panel. With contests that include modeling, designing, singing, and performing, this show sounds like a fun watch!
Will you be tuning in?
Last week I asked y’all to send in pix celebrating New Years, and you didn’t disappoint! Christina from NYC offered a few pics of her holiday revelry:
She says, “I spent the first couple of hours working, but finished just in time for the countdown and a few drinks. Here are some photos of my friends and I bringing in the New Year, in style of course.“ Cute!
Reader Tarita also sent in a pic, saying, “Me and my best friend Natasha live for fashion!“ “…What do you think of our New Years outfits???“
Uh, I love them–especially the shoes. Y’all are the bomb!
What do you think?
…it’s my birthday!
Although I’d love to say that I’m relaxing at a European spa getting my nails and toes done, I actually found a part time job teaching English and have to work!
It’s all good, though, I’m happy to have a job and be getting paid in Euros…this will do until French Vogue comes knocking!
I’ll be updating as much as I can….
Bisous!
While perusing the web, I found a picture of Kanye’s new sneaker design for Louis Vuitton:
A bright white boat shoe, West’s design has a platform sole, laces with a loafer like tassel, and a space age-y reinforcement on the back.
I can see that Kanye wanted to take the typical sneaker to the next level, perhaps marrying the look of a dressier shoe with the ease of a more athletic style. Ambitious, but he might have overshot this one. What do you think?
Congratulations to Fashion Bombshell Tanya Taylor who, from our interview with Kathryn Finney, guessed correctly that the iconic model posing with The Budget Fashionista was none other than Roshumba Williams!
Tanya, who hails from DC and counts Mail Bombs as her favorite FB feature, shares that her fashion resolution is to take more fashion risks. We like!
Thanks to everyone who played!

Undercover Fashionista of 2008 Taraji P. Henson hit up the 14th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards in a structured metallic strapless cocktail with silver accessories:
Ms. Henson is certainly kicking off the New Year with a bang, laying down tracks to ascend to the Queen of Chic throne in 2009.
Do you love her look?
One of the most common questions we receive is ‘How do I get into Fashion Week?“
The answer used to be that you’d have to be in the industry or best friends with a designer, but thanks to American Express, you can buy tickets to shows with their By Invitation Only program for Platinum card members:
From February 13th through 20th, Card members will have the opportunity to view runway shows from a luxurious skybox overlooking the runways and even receive hair and makeup experiences in a backstage area.
More tickets for Gold Card holders go on sale later this month, with one- and two-show packages going for $150 and $250 respectively. A portion of proceeds will go to an American Express donation to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.
Fashion from a Skybox could be fly!
