Macy’s tapped the uber talented Rachel Roy to design an exclusive lower priced line called Rachel Rachel Roy:
She says, “This line is the younger sister to the Rachel Roy collection. It has the same designer sensibility but with a younger feeling.” The collection, which will hit stores in August, includes clothing and accessories.
What great news!
I have a few Rachel Roy pieces I snagged at a sample sale, but her stuff is no joke! I think I bought a shirt of hers on deep discount for $150. So…very glad for the lower priced line.
Check out a few looks:
WWD credits blogs like Hypebeast and Kicksonfire for helping Kanye’s Air Yeezy’s sell out in stores:
They say, “When hip-hop star Kanye West released his limited edition Air Yeezy sneaker for Nike earlier this month, it ignited a wave of collective hysteria among sneakerheads –those guys with the ardor for branded footwear usually associated with Imelda Marcos or Carrie Bradshaw– that saw them camped out in front of stores overnight to get their hands on the rare designs. Needless to say, the sneakers have sold out and are now being offered on eBay for upward of $700.”
The article goes on to state that blogs are key with one off collections like these. They say, “There was a time when magazines would bring us up to date once a month, but nowadays everything moves 10 times as fast and blogs serve as the only means fast enough to keep us on point.”
Hey!
So if you’re wondering why I was in Chicago, I came to watch the Oprah Winfrey Show:
To be honest, one of my goals this year was to meet Oprah. Why? She’s a tremendous inspiration and I hope to one day be a brilliant multimedia afficionado like her, juggling books, shows, and products. Thankfully I found a way to arrange for tickets to the show–little did I know my contact would seat me front row and center. Yes! I was literally two feet away from Lady O, close enough to oggle her hot Dior platform pumps!
I wish I could have taken pictures inside, but they took everything–writing materials, cameras, phones–away. With no snapping inside the studios, my hopes to get a pic with ‘The Boss’ were quickly dashed once we slid past security.
I’m glad for the experience and hope to meet her legit like at another time (I had thoughts of being a Stan and just running up to her, but didn’t feel like getting carted out by security!). I’d love for her to bestow a bit of knowledge on me–it would mean the world!
Until then I’m off to ATL to hang with the fam and friends.
Bisous!
*Tune into Oprah on Monday April 20th. You might catch a glimpse of me on TV!
Natasha over at the YBF pointed out that ex Danity Kane member Dawn Richard is a huge fan of recycling outfits:
The stylista chose to wear basically the same ensemble to the King Magazine Party on February 24th and a few days ago to the Day 26 Album Release party.
Look, I’m a recessionista, and have of course shopped my closet for many events. If I can make an outfit or dress look markedly different by adding a belt, or changing a top or shoes, I do it–it’s silly and irresponsible to buy a new oufit for every occasion.
But in this case, Dawn seemed to lack any sort of imagination. Though she added a jacket and changed her shoes, her overall look is still the same. And I know that if she’s rocking $1,000 Louis V Spicy Sandals and Balenciaga Escarpin Booties, homegirl can splurge on a new dress!
I gotta admit: I’m a Southern Girl at heart! And I love love love Southern music–you can find me bumpin everything from 3 6 Mafia to Lil Jon on my Ipod. Since I’m going back to ATL, I decided to bless the day with this Soulja Boy diddy:
Ugh, I’m almost ashamed to admit how much I like this song!
So usually, we give you guys a rundown of all the trends that are a hot this season, but today I’m going to take a different approach and tell you what trends to stay away from. Heck, some of them shouldn’t have even see the light of the day!
First up…jeans with distracting embroidery:
There are a ton of ways to gain attention by what you wear. This, however, is not one of them. Most of the time, the people behind you will be staring at your backside, but probably not in the way that you want them to.
Speaking of distracting designs…
Tops with tattoo designs are out…officially. It shouldn’t be one’s aim to want to look like the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy threw up on them.
Next, neck scarves for guys:
I have to admit that I wanted one when they first came out, but I never got around to getting one. Just as well, since everyone and their grandparents have one! They’ve been around for about 2 years now, so it’s pretty safe to say that this trend is done.
There are heels with a pointed toe, then there are these…
You have to admit that these shoes are deeply unattractive and can most certainly be mistaken for weapons. Some women may be able to pull these off under wide-leg trousers for a work-appropriate ensemble. But there are many who wear these bad boys with short shorts and dressy tops in the clubs. Definitely not a good look.
While we’re on the topic of fugly shoes…
What’s so bad is that I see shoes like these in just about every shoe store I go to! Can you blame me for not wanting my shoes to resemble an oversized elf’s footwear?
And last, because this one NEVER gets old…
Where to begin? All my college students know that it wouldn’t be college unless we saw at least 3 girls rocking the sweatpants in the Uggs. It’s cool if it actually snows where you are, but if these are still on after 2 PM, then that’s just a huge no-no, no matter how much mascara you have on.
