So a few months back I hit up a very French party with very French elements: champagne on tap, lots of smoke, and a dress code that required all black with one touch of color:
I happened upon this young lady who looked fabulous in brown and black topped off with a pair of cream open toe sandals:
She broke the dress code rules ever so slightly, which allowed this outfit to work. I also loved her haircut–fierce and flawless.
Rihanna kept the boots casual with harem style stretchy pants and a cropped denim jacket, while Lala sauced it up in a skin clinging black Alexander Wang dress and a matching Alexander McQueen Bow Clutch.
Which look do you prefer?
Here at the Fashion Bomb we’ll be taking on a lighter load to bless the season. Of course we’ll have our daily updates, but we’ll be packing more fun into fewer posts. You’ll love it!
For today, we have summer ready Mail Bombs…let’s go!
First, Kristina says, “I saw a picture of Solange Knowles out with her son…”
“…and I’m dying to know where I can find a shirt like the one she’s wearing. Please help!”
Adriana says, “Get the look of Solange’s kimono-style t-shirt with any of these options:”
Next, Tashia says, “I love Kim Kardashian’s blazer!”
“…Where can I find it?”
Kim is wearing this Balmain Jacket from their Fall 2008 Collection:
Find stores and more info at www.balmain.com. Stacey says, “The Diana Ross top Zoe has on is sooo cute…”
“….Where can I get it?”
We searched and searched and couldn’t find the exact top! You can get a similar look, however, with the following:
Now for just one wardrobe query! Danica says, “I’m desperately seeking summer dresses and mid-rise heels or sandals!!! I would love to wear platform heels, but I will fall flat on my face wearing high heels. I don’t want low heels like First Lady Obama; yet, I can’t wear the high-high heeled shoes (3 1/4″+) that the likes of Beyonce or Ciara wear. In addition, I wear a size 16 and it seems as though all of the summer dresses are cut just above the knee. I absolutely hate my knees! Can you offer some below-the-knee or longer dress suggestions and fashionable mid-rise heels?”
Adriana says, “Danica, here are some mid-rise heel options, along with some below-the-knee dress selections!“

Ok. If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time (long or short), you’d know that I’m a Southern Girl at heart, and love my down south songs. I’ll turn up the Stanky Legg, Swag Surf with the best of them, and of course bump Soulja Boy throughout the course of any day.
I recently happened upon a song by Soulja Boy featuring Gucci Mane and Shawty Lo called Gucci Bandana:
Y’all. Not only is the chorus about a Gucci Bandana, but every other word is Gucci. There are shots of hundreds of little children doing a Gucci Bandana dance.
I haven’t spoken to anyone in the press office at Gucci, but I can only imagine what they would think of the originator of the Superman starting a new Gucci dance craze.
There was that somewhat well known story in 2006 where rappers mentioned Cristal champagne almost constantly until a Cristal rep said, “[W]hat can we do? We can’t forbid people from buying it. [But] I’m sure Dom Perignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business.” Jay-Z was so incensed by Cristal’s suggestion (that rappers take their business elsewhere), he boycotted, saying, “I view [those] comments as racist and will no longer support any of his products through any of my various brands including the 40/40 Club nor in my personal life.”
Now Gucci hasn’t said a peep about this Soulja Boy video (if they even know it exists), but what do you think of rappers dropping designer names in songs?
Should rappers create their own lines to promote? Or continue to heavily line the pockets of designer houses?
