Style File: Janelle Monae

Hey!
So while I was on vacay with my sis, she couldn’t stop talking about Janelle Monae:

Apparently the Bad Boy crooner is initiating a new soul and fashion movement down south, and I figured, why not look at her style?

Janelle makes waves with menswear inspired blazers and neckties, all topped off with her signature pompadour hairstyle.

A fan of the London aesthetic, Janelle favors riding boots, high waisted pants, and crested, tailored jackets worn with simple accessories like button clip on earrings and pearl studs.

For most events, Janelle sticks to classic black and white, down to her Oxfords, socks, and sunglasses…

But brings in splashes of color for more casual commitments with tie neck blouses, scarfs, and vintage handbags.

How cute is she?

Tuesday Video: Lettin’ Go by Janelle Monae

I actually really like this song by Janelle Monae:

A few lyrics, “Imma let it go!/Gotta leave my worries behind/Gotta take control!/I just came to have a good time!/Imma let it go, no time for stress on my mind!/Imma lettin go!!!!!/ Oooh Im lettin go!”
Love it.

Steal of the Day: Kenneth Jay Lane Chunky Bangles

Adriana here, Bombshells, and I’ve been on a serious jewelry kick of late, especially bib necklaces and vintage clip-on earrings. While perusing the wares at Bluefly’s today-only Tax Relief Sale (extra 10% off *everything*), I found these gorgeous, chunky Kenneth Jay Lane resin bangles in a variety of colors for just $25.20 each:

With their ethnic-inspired designs, these are right on-trend, and perfect to jazz up jeans and a plain white tee or add flair to an LBD. 😉

Meet the Boyfriends: Chanel and Arlenis

Fashionologie has scans of an upcoming Vogue spread, profiling models Chanel, Arlenis, Julia Stegner and more with their boyfriends:

Chanel is dating rapper Tyga, while Arlenis is seeing model Rene Rodriguez.

I’m actually surprised to see their boos. I would’ve linked them to spotlight grabbers like Ryan Leslie or Kanye West, but their boyfriends seem pretty unassuming–a perfect combination to balance out their shine.

Splurge of the Day: Beyonce’s Balmain Crystal Embellished Jacket

Fashion Bomb favorite Beyonce was spotted in NYC wearing this $11,410 Balmain Crystal Embellished Jacket:

This particular piece is a fave of the French Vogue posse, and looks chic with exaggerated shoulder pads and a military edge.
While I love the look, of course it smacks of Monsieur Michael Jackson:

Beauty Verdict: Cassie’s Shaved Head

Bad Girl Cassie recently shaved her said, saying, “Sometimes in life, you need a change…Something that displays the ‘I don’t give a f—’ attitude that was always present, but never showcased. Something deeper than what you thought you were capable of. And something that will shock your mother, but make her call you a ROCK STAR.

Cassie isn’t the first celeb to sidle up to a razor.

Lovely Kelis always keeps it stylish with inventive hairdos:

And Amber Rose is known for her blond buzz:

But if you rock the close cut, you’re either perceived as fashion forward or just plain crazy:

Vogue’s May Issue: Third Consecutive Cover Featuring Black Women

Check out Vogue’s May Issue Cover shot by Steven Meisel:

vogue-may-liya-jourdan

With Liya Kebede and Jourdan Dunn, this makes Vogue’s third consecutive cover featuring black women.

The layout kind of reminds me of the Vogue cover for the World’s Next Top Models:

…while Chanel Iman was relegated to the inside flap, Liya warranted the outside cover.

Whether it’s the Obama or Bethann or Andre effect, Vogue is truly bringing it with the diversity. I like!

Do you?
