I was over at Glamour’s blog, and came across a good discussion they were having over the definition of plus sized:

In a photo shoot, they featured a woman they called plus sized who was actually a size 10– ‘real sized’ by most standards.
We’ve come across the same discussion before in a Plus Sized Style Spotlight about former ANTMer Toccara.

Readers were upset that we classified her as plus size saying, “Tocarra is NOT a plus size model. Tocarra is like a size 6 haha. She just has big knockers. But Im a big girl and I wear a 16…that’s plus size to us real women.”

Bold and Beautiful said, “I don’t think she is plus size anymore. Just my opinion,” and BRG said, “I don’t see anything plus sized about Toccara.”
In Hollywood, is everyone above a 6 considered ‘plus sized’?

And if that’s the case, aren’t we all plus sized?
A few of fashion’s finest came out last night for a Vanity Fair Party in NYC. Some got it right, while others…hmmm…
Andre Leon Talley affixed an oversized Obama family pin to a double breasted military jacket topped off with crystal adorned black flats:

Supporting Obama through fashion is hot! but those shoes…hmmm…
Kanyeezie also showed up in a simple close cut black tuxedo, v-neck top and his own Louis Vuitton sneakers:

After the mullet, short shorts, and other fashion eccentricities, Kanye looks sexy and fresh dressed! Hot!
Last but not least, designer Rachel Roy shined in a orange off shoulder Rachel Roy dress and Louis Vuitton Spicy Sandals:

The sandals are always hot, but the draping on the dress makes me go Hmm…
What do you think?

While searching around on Facebook, I came across the Spring/Summer 2009 collection of UK Designer Emmy Collins. After looking at just a few pictures, I realized that Emmy was a veritable talent–one you should definitely know:

Inspired by Jimmy Hendrix, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Fela Kuti, Lenny Kravitz, and Gwen Stephani, Emmy says his clothes are, “characterized by sharp, funky tailoring and a fresh, startling approach to color.” Take a look:

If you like what you see, check out Emmy’s past collections on his website, www.emmycollins.com.

Also check out his facebook album for more pix of the Spring/Summer 2009 collection.

Channel your inner Sasha Fierce with these boots.

It’s okay. You can pick your jaw up off the ground now. But after looking at these, it’s clear to see why it was there in the first place. With its netted cage and the gold platform, these Pucci stunners are ideal for any glam girl. They cost $1,085, and you can get them here.

Gimmick: A unique or quirky special feature that makes something “stand out” from its contemporaries. However, the special feature is typically thought to be of little relevance or use.
Stuff Fly People Like recently published a photo of stylista Lady Gaga who has taken to carrying around a teacup as a fashion accessory:

An obvious gimmick, the teacup has no functional purpose and is simply a cry for attention!
I recently spotted a 16-year-old girl on the metro with a pacifier in her mouth . She was way past the age for pacifiers and had to remove it to speak–the epitome of an attention grabbing gimmick.
Have you ever fallen victim?

Gimmick or not, Lady Gaga certainly has her own style. I must admit I like her video for Just Dance:

Enjoy!
Hmm, I’m starting to think designers are just hating on Michelle to get publicity. Fashion veteran Arnold Scasi, who is famous for designing outfits for Barbara Streisand, Mamie Eisenhower, Jackie Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, and Laura Bush, had the following words to say about first lady and fashion icon Michelle Obama:

“She’s great looking, she has a great personality and she’s obviously very bright … But … something is amiss. Obviously, she doesn’t have the right advice at this moment. [She should] pick some designers and deal directly with them. As [the wife of] the head of the most important country in the world, you must dress at some points according to protocol…[but] you don’t have to be conventional.”
I’m rolling my eyes at these desperate cries for attention. Why can’t people strive for attention by doing great work instead of being negative and bashing?
Boooo.
