Our fashionista of the year Rih Rih did what she does best last night in New York, rocking an edgy ski inspired Gareth Pugh jacket with a black mini skirt, sunglasses, and a pair of Christian Louboutins:
This saucy outfit is quite a clean look for Rih. Black and white topped off with Loubies is always chic.. and unquestionably hot!
If you want a similar look for less, try these options:
Another victim of the recession, the title has definitively closed its doors.
An article in Daily Finance says, “Vibe enjoyed significant success in the late ’90s and early part of this decade as hip hop and R&B became the nation’s predominant forms of pop music. But in recent years the title has fallen on hard times … In February, it reduced its circulation and publishing frequency, cut salaries and moved employees to a four-day workweek to save money.”
I have so many warm memories of Vibe…tearing through one of my first issues featuring the Fugees; reading about the East Coast vs. West Coast beef; and gasping when they had the courage to put popstar Justin Timberlake on the cover.
Aside from its groundbreaking premier issues, Vibe represented some of the best journalism in its field. By courting the best authors and thinkers, Vibe was able to put an intelligent and well researched spin on the booming hip-hop industry.
I’ll miss Vibe’s 20 Questions, the fashion spreads done by the uber talented Memsor Kamaraké and Janelle Grimmond, and reading stories by authors like Karen Good and Serena Kim.
Artists Ciara and Lil Mama were at Rap-Up Magazine’s 4th Anniversary & Summer Issue Release Party this past Friday sporting what seems to be the new beauty must:
…two toned hairstyles. While most may opt for highlights or subtle light strands, Ciara and Lil Mama go for bold with blocks of platinum and golden brown placed side by side with raven black.
Keri Hilson debuted a similar color block style on the BET red carpet this weekend:
And Monica has been known to partake in edgy cuts with black and red….
But the style can easily tread the line between dynamic and dreadful…
Ebony Magazine chose Bombshells Alicia Keys, Tina Turner, Michelle Obama, and Halle Berry to cover their Summer Issue:
Celebrating women with the “It” Factor, the issue includes write ups and tributes to everyone from Naomi Campbell and Lil Kim to Condoleeza Rice and Oprah Winfrey.
Look for it on newsstands!

Snapshot is a daily section featuring fashionable, memorable moments. No words, just an image. Enjoy..and discuss!
Festooned with a pair of high hemmed black pants, black loafers, and white socks, the shirt gives a subtle yet searing tribute to the world’s first moonwalker!
Here’s another hot post from new intern Sean Garrette! “Ciara recently released the video for her new song “Work.” Set at a construction site, Ciara does a host of body altering moves while showcasing her new edgy style.”
” Try a few of these items to get a Ciara “Work” steeze”:
So today I’d like to introduce you to our new intern…
…17-year-old fashion enthusiast Sean Garrette!
You might have noticed a few Fashion Quickie’s he’s sent our way in the past couple weeks. The definition of driven, Sean eschewed traditional rules, simply writing us on an almost daily basis with great ides and a slew of well researched, complete style articles. We hadn’t even advertised for an intern, but he kept at it, and his persistence paid off!
Vuitton has been promoted from intern to Fashion Bomb reporter (woot!) and today Sean Garrette gives us his first official Fashion Bomb ‘tern post on up and coming stylist, Phlo Finister:
A fashion editor for Persona Magazine and stylist to the salacious new pop group Elektrik Red.
Let’s read on! Sean says, “The Oakland born and LA raised Phlo got her start on a shoot with Jim Jones where she met Christopher, an Editor of Persona Magazine. Impressed by her style and fashion sense, he offered her a styling and editor job on the spot.”
With a style influenced by, “Life, and people who live freely,” Phlo is also a model and candidly told Sean, “It’s a full time job of not eating and wearing amazing clothes.†Ha!
In an interview with Bossip, Phlo revealed she got started on her fashion track when she was 5-years-old and first put on her grandmother’s YSL pumps with red lipstick to play dress up. A few short years later and you can now find her modeling for Brian Lichtenberg, American Apparel, Maxine Dillion, Rojas and styling shoots for Electrik Red, Ibn Jasper, Rich Hill and Melyssa Ford.
Both Sean and Phlo show that age is nothing but a number. And if you really want something, you can make it happen!
Stay tuned for more of Sean Garrette’s articles! And keep an eye out for Phlo, who will be dropping a mix tape in August and is working on a blog called Pholove.
I recently stumbled upon Normal Watches, timepieces in candy colors featuring fun phrases like “Facebook Ruined my Life,” “Obama Yes We Did,” and “Love is the New Hate:”
Witty and endlessly affordable, these conversation starters start at $20 and top off at $38. Not so bad for a funky yet functional accessory.
Steve Madden’s upscale Steven line has quite a few gorgeous picks, and I personally like these $150 Demetra Strappy Open Toed Pumps:
I love the shoes’ bright burst of color and edgy cut outs! If you like the style but are more of a subtle gal, the shoe also comes in taupe and black.
