Today I wanted to officially welcome beauty correspondent Eileen to our team!!
You may have noticed her posts on Tuesdays, where she gives us the bomb beauty advice.
In addition to fashion, we strive to give you the best in style and beauty–thankfully Eileen is a certified makeup maven. Take a look at her makeup bag!
She says, “My love affair with beauty first started while interning at Bloomingdales as a junior at Syracuse University. I just could NOT resist all the makeup counters! I see beauty and cosmetics as something fun–it’s my current obsession.“
Pretty soon we’ll have Eileen all set up with a Fashion Bomb e-mail account so you can shoot her any beauty questions you may have. Until then, leave a comment…
So I was perusing hot magazine 5Point and came across this arresting editorial featuring Chain Shades by Odd & Even NYC:
If you lust after the look of Rihanna’s A Morir by Kerin Rose shades, but don’t have $250 to spare, these are for you! Odd & Even’s shades are recession and wallet friendly at only $20. Woot!
And take a look at a few of their fabulous accessories:
Did I mention most items are under $50?!? I want…everything.
So I was cruising on one of my new fave shopping websites, Colette.fr, and came across this bracelet by young designer Johanne Mills:
According to the site, “London based designer Johanne Mills graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Mixed Media Textiles. Specializing in textiles while working in ceramics, sculpture and photography, Johanne’s entire graduation collection was bought by Donna Karan.” That’s a pretty dope graduation present!
Take a look at her designs plus prices at Colette.fr. This particular bangle is €380 or about $540 . Quite a splurge, but imagine it with a black shift. Fire!
This weekend was all about art, emerging style stars, and taking fashion chances. I don’t know about you all but I’m definitely in need of some spice on the fashionable scene!
Beyoncé continued to promote her charitable work with the Show Your Helping Hand Campaign, this time as her tour hit Chi-Town. Sporting a new take on safari khaki, the pop queen’s duds featured the signature Bey sparkle, this time in the form of an elaborate studded belt. It’s a cute outfit for Sasha Fierce’s alter ego but something about the ruching on the shirt makes it appear too bunched. I’d have liked to see her rock a crisp white button-down, instead, to contrast with the flashy belt, hmm…
Newly engaged Christina Milian kicked it at a birthday party in Hollywood wearing one of summer’s hottest color trends, red-orange. Her short-sleeved sheath with draping is quite chic and pairs nicely with her shades. I’d have loved to see her with a different shoe (a leopard-print pump would have killed it) but, honestly, I’m just glad she dropped the “Miliblonde” look, for the most part (although I kinda like the blonde chunk she’s got going on in front–maybe y’all are “Hmm’in” me now ;-)…
UK singer-songwriter VV Brown, who’s been noted as a 2009 artist to watch here in the States, took the stage at day one of London’s Lovebox Weekender music event. Coveting her entire look, from the mad-cap print, origami-like blouse to the dark grey ruched leggings. And I need to ask our Beauty guru Eileen how to get that makeup look. Stat (red-orange again!). Quite hawte!
At Rush Philanthropic’s Tenth Anniversary Art For Life benefit, Vanessa Williams and Gayle King were among the glittery guests who sported the evening’s theme colors of black and white. The multi-hyphenate Ms. Williams looked fabulous in a sleeveless, A-line dress with a watercolor print, while Ms. King opted for an all-white, embroidered, strapless ensemble. Not feeling Gayle’s look as much as I am Vanessa’s, hmm…
Journalist Soledad O’Brien and singer Adrienne Bailon were also among the fashionable at Art for Life, demonstrating that art lovers come from all backgrounds. Soledad went for elegantly casual in a black, maxi-length wrap dress with turquoise jewelry, while Adrienne kept it short and sweet in an adorable one-shoulder cocktail dress with black sash. Loving Adrienne’s makeup, necklace, and minaudière, too. Nicely done for both ladies: their individual styles are appropriate for their personalities and ages, and show that “Hot” is all relative to the fashion lane you occupy…
Another new-to-the-Bomb style star, Shinga Shoniwa is the lead singer and bassist for indie punk band The Noisettes, who performed at the T4 On the Beach concert in England. Shinga for sure caught my eye with her head-turning style. Her cropped hot pink blazer, gold lamé leotard top, fishnets, and strategic pops of color boldly proclaim her unique style. At a time when so many “edgy” looks appear contrived, it’s nice to see someone for whom it just seems organic. Looking forward to keeping this style star on our radar…
What do you think of our Bomb celebs, old and new?

So our homies at Swagger are going international, patrolling the streets of Paris and now New York with their chic style lens.
Today they send us a picture of Valencia, a diva they caught at South Street Seaport for a Kid Cudi concert:
She looks urban cool and carefree in a rocker vest, graphic tank, floral skirt, and fringe sandals, all topped off with oodles of chunky necklaces and bracelets. While in our ‘Strike A Pose’ post, we warned against laughing in a pic, Valencia pulls it off well.
Super cute!
What do you think? Does she have Swagger?
*Keep your eyes peeled for Swagger New York, which will launch later this summer!
Welcome to another week featuring urban fashionistas with great style!
Today we have Kay from Stamford Connecticut (on the right), who is a full time administrator and part time stylist:
She says, “I noticed that you don’t feature a lot of thick chicks as Bombshell of the day. I thought I might be one of the first to show the world how the plus size chicks rock!“
Snaps to Kay for sending in her pic! What do you think of her style?
Smootches!

Franca Sozzani, Editor-in-Chief of Italian Vogue explains, “Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate [this] issue to Black Barbie.” The special issue includes artistic photography and fashion, in addition to adorable Barbie Dolls.
Also, this year Barbie will be releasing dolls with more afrocentric features. I’m all for it!
If I can score a copy of the issue, I’ll scan a few more pix for ya!
