Hey!
So Chris Rock recently produed a documentary called “Good Hair” after his daughter asked him innocently, “Daddy, Why don’t I have good hair?”:

The documentary explores the complex relationship women of color have with their locks–whether they’re rocking a weave, afro, or micro mini braids. It also interviews Hollywood starlets like Meagan Good, Nia Long, and Raven Symone to talk about the types of hair styles they choose, and why. Looks like it’ll be an interesting film!
I’m sure we all have our own hair histories! I recently shared mine with the website Black Girl Long Hair. Check it out here.

Hey!
So Swagger Paris is still snapping away in the streets, and brings us this picture of French fashionista Carrie:

She’s rocking a sick pair of Ray-Bans, an ASOS black romper, and a bow tie adorned necklace.
Like most Parisian women, she loves all black, but punched up her look with gold accessories, an edgy but simple hairstyle, and manicured purple nails.
I love! It’s very 80’s retro, non?
But what do you think? Does she have Swagger?
Dope site Upscale Hype has the scoop on a hot new style of sunglasses:

…Mosley Tribes x Crooks & Castles Castellanos.
The $250 shades are a fave amongst rap stars like Jay-Z and Fabolous, who rock the specs in black and white:

Hey Guys!
Welcome to another week of Fashion Bomb reader fabulousness!
Today, we’re featuring Zeina, a bombshell from Miami, Florida by way of Zimbabwe. She says, “I’m a Music major turned fashion merchandising major. I was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and we African women LOVE to look good!”

She continues, “People always want to highlight the bad things about Africa, but don’t realize a lot of fashion comes from there! If you go to South Africa, the men and women are so creative in their style mixing classic pieces with items of the moment. In Western Africa like Nigeria and Senegal the women look good even if just going to the market decked out in beautiful real gold jewelry and traditional garments! I swear whenever I go home I’m in a fashion show!“

Sounds cool–makes me want to travel to Africa and look around!
In the meantime, what do you think of her style?

This weekend was all about the grown and sexy, and we’re featuring quite a few fab women who show us how to grow gracefully fashion-wise! Let’s take a look?
Gal-about-town Genevieve Jones popped up at Columbia Records’ All Points West afterparty in a short tank jumper paired with mid-calf suede boots. Loving her bronze glow and loose, wavy locks but I’m not a convert yet to the whole “boots in summer” movement and this outfit seems a little too off-kilter and unexciting, Hmm…
The hardest working woman in showbiz, Beyoncé, opened the Las Vegas leg of her tour this weekend at the Wynn and used the chance to showcase some new Sasha Fierce threads. The structured jacket piece worn over a blue-grey leotard looks quite similar to one of the silhouettes she rocked in the “Diva” video, which I love for the dramatic take it gives on her natural hourglass shape, and the pop of red lipstick and tilted eyeline only enhances the dramatic look–loves. Mrs. Carter keeps giving ’em major fashion on this tour…
Ageless wonder and R&B star Chilli attended NBAF’s Midsummer Gala in the ATL wearing a darling little halter maxi dress with paisley print. Her simple wavy hair and thong sandals are subtle enough to let the dress make most of her fashion statement yet lend the outfit a casual-cool edge. Quite cute for the former TLC member!
Normally, I’m not a huge fan of Vivica Fox’s style but I must say that with this outfit, homegirl is giving lessons on how to be in your 40s and fab, which she celebrated at her birthday party in Toronto this weekend. Her tangerine baby-doll dress is the perfect combo of flirty and sexy, not to mention her fab tribal platforms and coordinated gold jewelry. Liking her tumble of long curls and warm peachy makeup, too–nicely done for Ms. Fox…
Speaking of ageless wonders, Ms. Jodi Watley gave a concert at B.B. King’s in NYC this weekend looking fabulous. A little Vegas, a little Studio 54, with a pop of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” thrown in (that glove and bracelets!), she sparkled in a sequin top, body-hugging Lycra pants, and her trademark oversize hoops. Loved her back when she was Lookin’ for a New Love and love her now–fierce!
Christina Milian kept the sequin trend going at the “Bring It On: Fight to the Finish” premiere in a slinky mini caftan number with a colorful graphic design. Again, here’s a great example of allowing a flashy piece to speak for itself and striking a balance with subtle pieces: her basic black pumps, sleek hair, and strategic pop of pink add dimension to the outfit without overwhelming her centerpiece, the dress. Sweet style for La Milian 🙂
What say y’all, Bombshells?

Hey!!
Today I wanted to wish a Happy Belated Birthday to our BOMB reporter, Vuitton:

He razzled and dazzled you guys during our intern contest, and has shown amazing innovation and creativity with his Rip the Runway posts and styling articles. He became one year wiser and more fabulous on Saturday, and we’re so happy he’s on our team!
Let’s all wish him a Happy Belated Birthday!
Hey!
So in my travels, I run into several friendly people, including Dana, a customer service rep from LAX. We started chatting while waiting for our plane, and in our convo she confessed her love of this song, Too Late by One Republic featuring Timbaland:

This song speaks to a situation she’s going through. I personally love the beat Timbaland threw on this ballad–this song is one of his greatest collaborations outside of the typical ‘hip-hop’ genre.
Enjoy!
