The Pittsburg native overcame significant obstacles to become the first black woman to cover Ladies Home Journal in 1968. The trailblazer walked for designers like Teal Traina, Fernando Sanchez, and Giorgio di Sante Angelo, covered Cosmopolitan in 1973, and starred in spreads for Life and the Times Style Magazines. In a 1974 New York Times article, designer Halston said, “Naomi was the first. She was the great ambassador for all black people. She broke down all the social barriers.

Naomi paved the way for black models like Beverly Johnson, Naomi Campbell, and Chanel Iman, knocking down doors by grace of her sheer determination and undeniable beauty:

Hot! or Hmm… : Cassie’s Video Look

Bossip has a few pictures of Cassie on set at her new video:

Cassie

Seems she has combed her alluring shaved coiffe into a pompadour, and added a pair of spectacles for a quirky, fashion forward steeze.

I think I like this! It seems she’s slowly but surely edging out her own distinct identity:

But what do you think? Is it hot! Or did it make you go hmmm….?

Beauty Discussion : What is Good Hair?

Hey!

So Chris Rock recently produed a documentary called “Good Hair” after his daughter asked him innocently, “Daddy, Why don’t I have good hair?”:

Chris Rock Good Hair

The documentary explores the complex relationship women of color have with their locks–whether they’re rocking a weave, afro, or micro mini braids. It also interviews Hollywood starlets like Meagan Good, Nia Long, and Raven Symone to talk about the types of hair styles they choose, and why. Looks like it’ll be an interesting film!
I’m sure we all have our own hair histories! I recently shared mine with the website Black Girl Long Hair. Check it out here.

Swagger Mondays : Carrie from St. Paul

Hey!

So Swagger Paris is still snapping away in the streets, and brings us this picture of French fashionista Carrie:

Swagger Paris Fashion Bomb

She’s rocking a sick pair of Ray-Bans, an ASOS black romper, and a bow tie adorned necklace.

Like most Parisian women, she loves all black, but punched up her look with gold accessories, an edgy but simple hairstyle, and manicured purple nails.

I love! It’s very 80’s retro, non?

But what do you think? Does she have Swagger?
