In light of our spirited discussion today, I decided to rock with this video of India Arie performing the song “I am Not my Hair”.

Never really paid attention the the lyrics, but check the first verse and chorus:
“Little girl with the press and curl/ Age eight I got a Jheri curl /Thirteen I got a relaxer/ I was a source of so much laughter/ At fifteen when it all broke off/ Eighteen and went all natural/ February two thousand and two/ I went and did/ What I had to do/ Because it was time to change my life/ To become the women that I am inside/ Ninety-seven dreadlock all gone/ I looked in the mirror/ For the first time and saw that HEY…./ [Chorus] I am not my hair/ I am not this skin/ I am not your expectations no no/ I am not my hair/ I am not this skin/ I am a soul that lives within”
Enjoy!
Bomb girls and bff’s Ciara and Kim Kardashian walked the black carpet together at the Los Angeles premiere of Orphan:

Ciara accented her new hair cut with a Gryphon sequin racerback tank and staple black Louboutin pumps. Kim K chose Proenza Schouler’s T-shirt bustier dress, signature YSL Tribute Too pumps, and popped on YSL’s cage belt to complete the look.Â
Hotness for both ladies!Â

So with Rihanna always in the spotlight for her daring fashion choices, I thought it apropos to (finally) take a quick look at her long time stylist:

…Mariel Haenn.
The half Puerto Rican image sculptor is the stylistic force behind Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and “Hate that I Love You” videos, as well as the mastermind behind dozens of her red carpet, performance, and candid outfits:

Not limited to just Rih Rih, Mariel was recently tapped by Ciara, working with the ATL songstress for red carpet appearances as well as videos such as “Work” “Go Girl” and “Love Sex and Magic”:

Haenn has been known to work with Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Meagan Good, Keri Hilson, Angela and Vanessa Simmons and even Lauren Conrad!

In an interview with Latina Magazine, Haenn said, “At first I thought I wanted to design clothes, but styling turned out to be more exciting. It allowed me to design the overall look and help create distinguished personalities for musicians and celebs.â€
See more of her work on her website www.marielhaenn.com or follow her on Twitter at www.twitter.com/marielhaenn.

Log on to Honeymag.com for the buzz on Asymmetric Styles:

They say, “...This sale season, consider on-trend pieces you can wear now and still rock as you transition into fall. One of our favorite upcoming trends that’s totally wearable now is anything asymmetric. The look is executed best in a solid color as not to distract from all the geometric business going on.”
