Hey!
Today’s Bombshell is Anuli, a Maryland native currently going to school in Boston:
Anuli, I love the diversity of your outfits, and how you manage to inject a dash of style in both casual and more dressed up looks. I’m loving your scarf, cute jackets, and paisley cardigan!
What do you guys think?

Rihanna stays in the public eye as she’s unafraid to take risks with makeup, clothes, and hair. Her latest head turning move? A blond highlighted hair style:
I’ll be honest, I’ve been trying to think of ways I can change up my hair without cutting anything off. A bit of blond dye seems a viable, risk averse option.
What do you think of Rihanna’s new haircolor? Hot? Or does it make you go hmm…
Today I wanted to tell you about Toronto based line Dealers of the Purple Cloth:
The edgy, urban inspired collection features amazingly tailored, clean, and functional items with fun details like bow-ties, ruffles, zippers, and patches.
Their tees and tanks range from $35-55, and cut-and-sew pieces range from $110-185.
So I’ve received quite a few e-mails lately asking us to include more fashion for plus sized women. I took to Twitter to see if any Fashion Bomb followers would be up for guest blogging, and the fabulous Christina from www.MusingsofaFatshionista.com volunteered for our first guest post!
She gives us the scoop on how you curvaceous bombshells can incorporate the ‘Rocker Chic’ trend into your wardrobe. Enjoy!
As another fashion week ends, it’s a reminder that it’s time to put away our sundresses and sandals in exchange for heavy knits and boots. One of the trends that will, no doubt, carry over into fall is Rocker Chic. Perfected by starlets like Rihanna and Ciara, this body-hugging look adds a sexy edge to any ordinary outfit.
So what do you do if you aren’t even remotely shaped like Rihanna or Ciara? As a plus sized woman, it’s undoubtedly harder to participate in some of the hottest trends, but it’s not impossible!
In the first installment of “In Our Size,” we break down 5 key pieces of the Rocker Chic trend and give you everything you need to be flyer than the rest!
Key Piece #1: Leather any-and-everything!
The #1 must-have item for this trend is leather and lots of it! During the fall, leather (or pleather if you prefer) jackets become an essential part of many women’s wardrobes because they are so versatile. You can wear it with a t-shirt and your favorite jeans to look effortlessly chic while running errands during the day and then pair it with your classic little black dress for drinks with your girls later on. However, leather is not just for jackets. There are many variations including vests, skirts and shorts so don’t be afraid to branch out and try something new! Below are a few leather items you can add to your fall wardrobe to bring out your inner rock star!
Key Piece #2: Studs galore!
Studs and rock-n-roll go hand-in-hand, you can’t have one without the other. The best part about studded clothes is that it instantly adds an edge to any outfit and when paired with something more delicate like lace or florals, it becomes much more visually interesting. This fall, it seems that studs were put on any and everything from shoes and belts to necklaces, rings, blazers, skirts and jeans. I’ve found that the key to wearing them correctly is to never over do it. Just wearing a striking studded jacket says more than wearing a studded jacket, bracelet, belt and bag. Easily incorporate studded pieces into wardbrobe with the items below:
Key Piece #3: Shoes
Nothing completes an outfit better than a killer pair of shoes. Whether they’re sky-high platform heels or your favorite pair of Chuck Taylors, they make a statement. The good thing is that for this trend, there’s lots of versatility when it comes to footwear. As much as we may like to, not everyone can wear 4 inch heels all day. Here are a variety of shoe options that can add a touch of rock to any outfit.
Key Piece #4: Distressed Denim
Ask anyone, nothing is better than throwing on your favorite pair of broken-in jeans and going on about your day. After a while your favorite pair of jeans may start to rip here and tear there. Instead of throwing them out and searching high and low for their replacement, with this trend, the more rips the better! Whether they’re bleached, torn, studded, or cut, there’s tons of room for personality. Below are different ways that you can add this key piece to your closet.
Key Piece #5: Attitude!
The last key piece in the rocker chic trend is also the most important; attitude! This trend is not for the wallflowers, it’s for the girl that is bold in both her style and personality. It is very important to take trends like this one and put your own spin on them. Be inspired by Rihanna, Ciara and everyone else but do not become a carbon copy. People can spot posers instantaneously. Just be yourself and there’s no doubt, you’ll look and feel fly!

Smootches!
Phillip Bloch ushered in the era of the celebrity stylist; as he candidly admitted to me in our interview earlier this week: “After people saw that I was having my 20 minutes of fame, they wanted their 5!” Fashion heads will concur: the first time I “met” Phillip was watching him on an early cable style program on TV in the ’90s as a ‘tween, and I remember thinking, “Stylist…what’s that?” I’d never heard of the role before that but Bloch, before anyone else, branded it for himself and the legion of celeb stylists to come behind him.
With names like Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayek, and Jada Pinkett-Smith on his resumé, not to mention his work with Vogue, InStyle, Vanity Fair, and Entertainment Weekly, among countless others, Bloch’s list of credentials is the ultimate “Who’s Who?” of style. I had to ask him: um, how do we even *set our sights* on accomplishing as much you have?
“Really, it’s about taking the ego down,” he shares. He advises young stylists to just “do the work,” as there’s really no way around it. He also counsels up-and-comers to “keep it real” and not fib about what you’ve worked on. To illustrate, he mentioned a run-in with a makeup artist who bragged that they’d done all of the work on a recent *major* music video only to find out later that the person had only done the extras. And there’s no shame in that–everyone has to start somewhere. “Just don’t lie!” he cautions. Remember, too, that “this is a business” at the end of the day, so don’t get caught up in small personal issues like not being seen front-row at a designer’s show.
As far as where he gleans his styling inspiration from, it’s as vast and varied as his career, which also includes acting, designing, and writing. “A daisy growing out of the concrete in the sidewalk, old buildings, and, recently, the Muir Woods in Northern California. Beauty’s really where you find it, as Madonna says in ‘Vogue’.” Couldn’t agree more!
What I found most refreshing about Phillip is his aim to “really try to use [my] platform for good.” Currently, his project as a brand ambassador for Flexees Shapewear by Maidenform is what he’s most excited about. “It’s fat-free dressing for the woman who has no inclination to go under the knife, and it’s affordable!” he enthused. He also asked me to also tell Bombshell to enter to win a personal $4,500 makeover with him over at Star Magazine, so get thee to the contest entry page quickly!
