So I usually stay out of the ‘comment’ fray. I treat the site kind of like an invisible puppet master–I post articles and pictures I think you’ll like and let you take the discussion wherever you please.
A feature we created to celebrate thestyle of Fashion Bombshells and nurture community became a forum where readers tore each other down and critiqued a person courageous enough to showcase their personal definition of chic.
Wherever we’re from and whatever we choose to wear, we’re all human beings who have their own unique takes on things. At the Fashion Bomb, whether we’re talking about Beyonce, Naomi, or Angela from Virginia, we try to distinguish ourselves from other blogs by attempting to underline the positive.
We can only hope you do the same.
To take away the competitive nature of the Bombshell feature, we’ll stop voting on Bombshells of the week and just celebrate a new member everyday. I hope past comments will not deter anyone from submitting their pictures– we can’t tell you enough how much we cherish everyone who reads, visits us daily, and submits pictures.
We’ll also be turning off comments for our Bombshells of the Day.
Let’s keep our Fashion Bomb community strong–and save all the foolywang for somewhere else.
You know how August is: everyone disappears for late summer vacations and to gear up for the upcoming blitz that September always brings, especially this year with Fashion Week and the MTV Video Music Awards happening during the same week in New York City. I hope this means the fashionable are preparing to bring it in a few weeks’ time. Meanwhile…
The fabulous La Knowles was spotted strolling the streets of downtown NYC rockin’ what appears to be thisForever 21 polka dot romper (thanks, YBF commenter LoveleeMia) with a sweetheart neckline, gorgeous Chanel accessories, and a bad little fuchsia bag. I like the outfit (especially the shoes) but not too sure about the wet curly ‘do she’s got goin’ on here, hmmm…
Actress LisaRaye put in an appearance at the Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant wearing her signature color, white, in the form of this demure little A-line shirtwaist dress. A sash, strappy sandals, and minaudière clutch, all in gold, completed the look, as did her simple, pretty makeup and subtle gold accessories. I’m not normally a fan of Lisa’s style but this is quite a cute look for Lady Diamond–hot.
Mogul Kimora Lee was on mommy duty this weekend as she, her girls, and partner Djimon Hounsou took in a showing of Shrek: The Musical in NYC. Decked out in one of my favorite summer staples, wide-legged white jeans, the Fabulosity guru tops them off with a silk caftan top trimmed in beads and high-heeled thong sandals. The tan Birkin ain’t hurtin’ things, either. Very casual-cute hot for the new mom of three…
India Arie and Rocsi served up some sass at a taping of 106 & Park last week, India in a purple tank dress and Rocsi in a high-waisted skirt and top combo. Love Rocsi’s kisses tee as well as India’s sexy sandals (and she added a cute touch with the doorknockers). And I see Rocsi’s got on black patent YSL Tribute pumps, which have now replaced the YSL Tribute sandal as the “it” shoe of the moment. Hmm. How long until we start hearing fashion backlash against these, or are they immune?
We first highlighted The Noisettes’ frontwoman, Shinga Shoniwa, a few weeks ago and homegirl popped up on the scene again this weekend, this time at the Amstel Light Amsterdam Live Event in Atlanta. Love *love* her sequined, bold shoulder, yellow sheath and turquoise earrings. The neon pink nails add dimension to her color selection and, once again, her makeup is flawless. Hawte!
Hey Bombshells!
So since I’ve been back in the States, I’ve been able to bone up on some of my favorite reality TV shows. One of my guiltiest indulgences is the Real Housewives of Atlanta, which follows the hijinks and drama of Sheree, Nene, Kim, Lisa, Kandi, and sometimes Dwight:
With their disposable income and leisurely lifestyle, of course these ladies have time to dress themselves in their own distinct ways! Let’s take a look:
Nene, the “tell it like it is” ATL honey, loves to wear cute tops with frills, stones, and embellishments transitioning into floor grazing maxi dresses for daytime engagements.
For a night on the town, you’ll find her in anything from blazers and jeans with cascading necklaces to plum colored frocks in A or straight lines:
The fashionista of the group Sheree makes her mark in bright colors, rocking stone-encrusted halter tops, draped cocktails over tights, and off the shoulder blouses with jeans.
The certified diva never leaves home without a large pair of shades, statement bag, and a swagger that says, “Who gone check me boo?”:
Laid back Lisa has certainly stepped her style game up this season, going for bold in large ruffled tops, mustard capes, and figure flattering dresses.
While she can rock a mean pair of pumps, she certainly cherishes her down time, wearing patterned hoodies or t-shirts with simple jeans and sneaks for kick back days:
Kim, the Big Poppa lovin’ blonde, keeps it saucy in skin tight ‘fits with blingin’ diamonds and gold hoops.
The buxom Southern Peach typically flaunts her bust in low cut or strapless frocks that showcase her girls, or top and bottom combos that highlight her hour glass frame:
The newest member of the cast Kandi goes for splashy with a crimped and curled up do that complements her layered necklaces and accessories.
She generally sticks to black and white, and accentuates her small waist with belts, tailored vests, and blazers.
What do you think of RHOA style?

PS Just for fun, this clip never gets old:
Today we bless your Monday morning with this pic of Rion, a Fashion Diva from Dayton, Ohio:
She says, “I believe I should be Fashion Bombshell of the Day! I live in Dayton, Ohio, and my style is different from most. Everyone in Dayton pretty much dresses in urban fashion, however I love high fashion. My style is very versatile,  I follow trends but add my own flava.”
What do you think of her style?

Transition easily from work to after work in this $118 Mink Pink Breathless Dress in Black:
Rock it with a kitten heel for work, then bring out a hot red pump for happy hour. Pop your cosmetics in a small clutch, then wear it alone to complete your ‘night on the town’ outfit:
Last night was very full–I went to a John Legend concert at Madison Square Garden then hit up a fun party afterwards (more on that later!). Even with this crazy city, I still have to make time for Mail Bombs! Let’s go!
First up, Nikki says, “Who makes Rihanna’s leather and floral dress??”
“I love it!“
We did some research and found Rih Rih is rocking this Georgette Sheath by Rag & Bone:
She says, “It looks so fab, but I don’t have that kind of money to spend on a skirt. Can you please find me some less expensive alternatives?”
Try these on for size:
Nahla says, “I heart Solange’s shoes!!“
“…who makes them?”
Solange is wearing a pair of fresh off the runway Moschino Cheap & Chic Fall 2009 lovelies:
Luckie says, “Omg ! Angela’s shoes are sooooo dope!”
” Will you please find out the designer & where they’re available?”
Hey! Fashion Bomb reader Femme Royale maintains that Angela is wearing a pair of Alexander McQueen Peep Toes. McQueens can run you about $1200 (eek!), so get the look fora little less with these:
In another Angela Simmons Mail Bomb, Tiffany says, “I fell in love with these leggings Angela has on!“
Lastly in a Beauty Bomb, Lesley says, “I’m going to an evening wedding on Sunday and I don’t know what type of makeup to wear. I’m wearing a lilac cocktail dress. I don’t wear much makeup, so I was wondering if you could help me out with something light and cute.” Eileen to the rescue! She says “Since you don’t wear much makeup I would go with fun products that are easy to use!
Face: Apply a foundation in your shade all over your face including the eyelids. CoverGirl Queen Collection has a shade for every woman of color under the sun!
Eyes: Try using Stila’s Talking Eye Shadow Quad in The Bronzes to help create a light smokey eye, which would be perfect for your cocktail dress. It will walk you through all the steps of applying color to the lid, crease, contour and liner. Once you have applied the color finish up with mascara like Rimmel Sexy Curves in Black.
Cheeks & Lips: Dab some of Benefit Benetint Pocket Pal on the apples of your cheeks and work in an upward motion from apples to cheekbones. Apply the same stain to lips and cover with the sheer gloss.
For a glam finish to your look, lightly dust a bronzer like Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact Bronzer to the edges of your hairline, temples and bridge of the nose. “
That does it!
Stay tuned for more fashion, news, and fun pix!
