Hot! or Hmm… : The AFI FEST 2009 Screening Of Precious

Hey!

So while we were in a technological wasteland, several bomb celebrities still pranced on the red carpets of movie premieres, putting their best faces forward for the camera flashes. Several stars were on hand for the Screening Of Precious in Hollywood offering lots of glorious Hot or Hmm fodder. Tell us what you think!

Garcelle Beauvais Screening of Precious

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon sizzled in a one shoulder cherry red dress, accessorized with metallic peep toe heels and a flurry of curly tendrils. Slight ruching and well edited adornments dressed up the simple frock, a perfect look for a wife and hot mom!

Paula Patton Robin Thicke Screening of Precious

Paula Patton also went for short and sultry in a strapless light purple banger worn with a slicked back chignon and strappy black sandals. Hubby Robin complements her nicely in an all black suit, great looks for a consistently hot couple.

Screening of Precious Sherri Shepherd

Sherri Shepherd looked young and sprite for the event with long cascading curls set off by a relatively short silver sequined shift. Her silver platform sandals are undoubtedly hot, but hmm, perhaps her tailor was a little too generous with the hem of her dress…

Mary Screening of Precious

Fashion diva Mary J. Blige took the opposite route, rocking a floor grazing halter dress with aptly placed cut outs. Her understated diamond clip ons and black clutch allow her dress to shine on its own. Hot!

Mariah Carey Nick Cannon Screening of Precious

Mariah Carey also went for a flowing halter gown, betting on black to pose with her hubby Nick. Snaps to Mariah for leaving the thigh high cocktails at home and going for a more mature aura. It seems her style is slowly but surely evolving. Hot!

Monique Screening of Precious

Mo’Nique dazzled in a strapless gold sequined gown, played up by simple makeup and a slicked back bun. Mo’Nique always manages to represent well for the curvy fashionistas, and this is definitely a hot look!

Oprah Winfrey Tyler Perry Screening of Precious

And lastly the man and woman of the hour, Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry looked cute and laid back in comfy jeans, Oprah profiling in a wide leg trouser jean in a dark wash, and Tyler going for a more traditional bootcut style. I’m loving the duo’s simple elegance and their ability to shine even with the most simple separates.

Splurge of the Day: Giuseppe Zanotti Swarovski-Embellished sandals

Yes, I’m still finding difficulty in getting my mouth to close after coming across these stunners:

Giuseppe Zanotti Swarovski Embellished Sandals

Giuseppe Zanotti kills it everytime, and definitely doesn’t disappoint with this shoe. These headturners will set you back $1,150, but you know what they say: spend a little, save a little, right? You can check them out here…while hating the model who got to wear them.

Rip The Runway: Opening Ceremony vs Surface to Air

With booties being such a hot trend for fall, it’s inevitable that ideas would have crossed over in the design of these two booties:

Chloe Sevigny Surface to Air

Both have peep-toes, buckles, and very similar wedges, but Chloe Sevingy for Opening Ceremony’s $625 Mutli Buckle Wedge Booties have more buckles than Surface To Air’s $425 Buckle Sandal, and they’re a little more ornate. Both are also splurges, but Chloe’s are a little more costly at $625: exactly a $200 difference between them and the Surface To Air’s. But the obvious question still remains…which would you rock?

Fashion News: Blackface in V Magazine #62

As if the Paris Vogue Lara Stone Blackface editorial wasn’t enough, V Magazine has emerged with a trump card: Sasha Pivovarova in blackface posing opposite Heidi Mount in their November issue:

Blackface V Magazine

It’s funny, a large majority of my French friends of African descent really didn’t find the Paris Vogue Lara Stone editorial offensive at all. Because they don’t have the same history of struggle in Europe, they weren’t quick to cite the race card– they viewed the blackface photos as bizarre at worst.

Which brings us to V. This is an American magazine, so they should know better, right? Or is there something we’re missing here? Is painting your skin another color simply a new fashion trend?
