Sai Sankoh Launches Her First Accessories Collection and it’s Inspired by the Natural Beauty of Tanzania

Goddess of the Dawn is the designer’s first venture into accessories.

Womenswear designer Sai Sankoh is kicking off the new year with a new collection. For the first time in the brand’s history, you can now shop Sai Sankoh accessories!

Sai Sankoh

Sankoh is known to draw inspiration from her travels, and her latest expedition across three countries left her so creatively energized, she’s set to drop three new collections. The first of the three is the Goddess of the Dawn collection. An accessories-focused lineup featuring hats, tote bags, and clutches heavily influenced by her time in Tanzania.

Sai Sankoh

Each piece speaks to the vibrant colors, ornate patterns, and decadent textures that decorate the serene savannahs of the Serengeti and the breathtaking beaches of Zanzibar. Taking inspiration from the acai trees, the oversized Amina hat stands out as the collection’s centerpiece, while totes and clutches reflect the bold colors of local landscapes. Prussian blue for the Indian Ocean, flamingo pinks, sun-soaked tones of raffia, and the vibrant mustard of lion’s manes. Local women artisans wove each piece, further cementing the touch of Tanzania.

Sai Sankoh

The Goddess of the Dawn collection encompasses the ethos of Sai Sankoh apparel, boldly outfitted for the woman who is no stranger to the spotlight and has an appreciation for modernizing vintage styles for a contemporary look.

Keke Palmer Glows in Yellow Fendi Dress for her Fine Art-Inspired Maternity Photo by David LaChapelle

Last December, Keke Palmer set the internet ablaze when she revealed she was expecting her first child while hosting Saturday Night Live. Since then, she’s been blessing us with adorable photos of her baby bump, which she keeps just as stylish as she, dressing her maternal curves in sparkle and luxury athleisure.

However, her maternity shoot photo speaks to the goddess we all know she is.

Teaming with legendary photographer David LaChapelle, Palmer is posed atop a globe wearing a yellow Fendi gown and Alzain diamonds. Her beau Darius Jackson sits on a chair across Palmer in a white tank, suspenders, cropped coral trousers, and a fedora while a flower before his queen.

The photo speaks to the kind of breathtaking piece one can only witness at the Louvre. In her Instagram caption of the masterpiece, Palmer perfectly states that it’s giving poetry, Michael Angelo, and the Sistine Chapel.

The happy couple’s A-lister peers were quick to flood the comments with praise. Actress Jodie Turner-Smith commented “iconique”, director Va$htie stated she looks like “an earth angel” and is living for the art, while actress/singer Ryan Destiny declared that “this is everything!”

We could not be more excited for Keke and Darius as they journey into parenthood and we look forward to her remaining maternity looks.

Top 5 Innovative Fashion Designers You Should Be Following on Instagram

Fashion is evolving. The empire is far more than the cinched waists and corsets it was built on. Since the likes of Hussein Chalayan and Alexander McQueen, designers have found safe spaces to be as creative as they feel without limits.

While the industry has made room for unconventional creatives to bloom on runways and in campaigns, there’s still a pool of designers you may not know of who shake up the scene with every stitch, cut, and sew. Today, fashion is more visible than ever, thanks to social media. So you don’t need to sit front row to catch head-turning designs.

Below we’ve gathered the top 5 cutting-edge (no pun intended) designers who continue to push the borders of fashion as we know it.

Jordy Arthur

Belgium-born Jordy Arthur is a designer with texture, fun, and functionality at the top of all his designs. He’s a wiz with pocket placement, often disguising his cash and card carriers as contemporary design elements. Cone-shaped bust pockets are an operative take on the iconic Jean Paul Gaultier design, but his expertise does not stop there. Look to Arthur for transformative fashion like an upcycled jacket that also serves as a vest and backpack.

Shay Rose

Recent UCLA graduate Shay Rose approaches design with a fearless spirit and out-of-the-box thinking. Her Instagram bio details that she “likes to make things” a modest description of her art. She’s as committed as any praised designer, whether she’s spending 150+ hours churning out a cocktail dress made entirely of pennies or recreating iconic Met Gala looks

F6X2

F6X2 is known to upcycle vintage blankets and old denim into plush hoodies or zip-up coats. Even the wildest of throwback throws have been upgraded into one of their bold designs. Though outerwear and pullovers are their specialty, expect to see variety on their profile with the inclusion of upcycled bags and bottoms.

Praise

Inspired by unconventional fashion houses like Margiela, Praise breaks down common clothing and reworks the pieces into unequaled art. He’s known to slash waistbands, pockets, sleeves, and more to create unique patchwork apparel.

Cory Infinite

Cory Infinite is a distinctive designer who specializes in headwear though they can make a mean jumpsuit too. Infinite’s nearly exclusive designs feature various materials from crochet to household items like books and boom boxes.
