Reader Thinning Edges Help! recently wrote in, “Claire can we start a conversation on thinning edges? I’ve had thinning edges for as long as I can remember. My Mum and sisters do as well, but mine is really bad. I’ve never been officially diagnosed, but I believe I suffer from the condition called Alopecia.”
“What can I do? I really want to stop with the weaves and extensions but I can’t find the confidence to expose my edges. It’s bothered me for so long. Any help or advise on this is appreciated. It’s so hard to speak about it and for so long I’ve ignored it and just used weaves. Now I’m getting older and I’ m getting sick of weaves…I really want to go natural. Please help.”
No Problem! I hit up my hairstylist, Sammy Lacombe, for a bit of insight. Read on for her 5 tips to help with your thinning hair.
1. Eliminate tension. Try not to pull your hair and avoid regular tight styles.
She explains, “Tight ponytails, tightly braided weaves, and too tight twists can cause thinning. “ Wear your hair down or in a loose pony from time to time. Give the weaves a break, and go for clip in extensions that you can take out daily. She continues, “If you have locs, and notice thinning, try not to twist as often. Wear silk or satin headbanks in between visits to your hairstylist.”
2. Protect your hairline during work outs with a headwrap.
Lacombe says, “Sweat dries your hair and makes the hair brittle. I love Save Your Do headwraps because they conserve your hairstyle and whisks sweat away.” In addition, wash your hair every 10 to 14 days.
3. Use Oil.
Castor, coconut oil, or a mixture of both are god sends to those with thin edges. Sammy says, “Go for organic, authentic brands for the most efficiency.”
4. Do Protein Treatments.
“Protein treatments rebuild the bonds of the hair follicle,” says Lacombe, “You should do them monthly, depending on severity.” If you’re not skilled, don’t try this at home! See your hairstylist or a hair professional.
5. Try a multivitamin.
Sammy says, “Get one with biotin in it. Biotin helps stimulate hair and nail growth.”
That does it!
While all those methods will work if you have moderate thinning, if your hair is already falling out, see a tricologist at Hair and Skin Clinic in Melbourne. They can do transplants or other stimulations.
Do you guys have anything to add?

Happy Monday, folks!
I’m in New Orleans, enjoying the shrimp etouffée, jambalaya, and beignets! I’m off to sample a few culinary delicacies before I zip back to NYC tomorrow, but first: today’s Bombshell. Check out Jackie from LA:

” My style can be best described in one word: versatile!”
“… One day I might want to be colorful and the next I’ll be feeling edgy…but I will always add a little sexy flair to it.”
” My favorite things to wear are figure-hugging pieces and bodycon dresses for my pear/hour glass shape which sometimes can be tricky to dress for but over the years I’ve learned to really embrace it.”
” I am a US Army soldier by day and makeup artist/youtuber/beauty blogger by night.”
” I love representing women who serve with class and style…”
“… not all of us are masculine; many of us enjoy getting dressed up and looking and feeling good too.”
” We bring things to the table in and out of uniform.”
” My style influences are Ciara, JLo and Kelly Rowland.”
“ I’m proud to be able to serve my country and other women of color to teach them how to feel beautiful in a society that tells us otherwise!”
Thank you for serving our country! I’m loving all your fabulous jumpsuits and A-Line Skirts.

Today’s Bombshell is a NY/NJ girl! See what Erica submitted:
She says, “[My style is] Urban Africana / Retro Chic.”
” I am Nigerian, but I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD before moving up to the Tri-State area 8 years ago.”
” I’m a jewelry designer and video host– so accessories play a HUGE part in my style and outfit choices. Things that influence my style most are: 1) I’m a hardcore commuting cyclist (so I always want to be cute, but I also have to be comfortable depending on what my tasks are for the day) and 2) I almost exclusively wear my own jewelry line, QuÉrica Jewelry by Erica Lasan (www.QuEricaLiveRich.com). “
“I LOVE old clothes, colors and prints, and cutting up/altering T-Shirts — they just make my outfits so much happier!”
” I feel like vintage clothing tells a story, not only about the period in time in which they were worn, but also a little bit about the person who originally and wore them.”
” I score a lot of my favorite vintage finds from stuff my mom and dad have kept over the years.”
” They have such great taste and it reflects a bit of both the Nigerian and American cultures that I’ve been raised in.”
” I love putting together new and individualistic takes on original retro trends.”
“Because I love style, accessories, biking, and conducting video interviews so much I decided to mash all of my loves into one and created a style web-series called “QuÉrica Fashion PediCAB.” “
” On Fashion PediCAB I hit the streets of NY in my pedicab and interview random NYC Citizens about themselves and their style– all while promoting my jewelry line! Episodes can be viewed on my channel (www.YouTube.com/QuEricaTV). “
Hot! I love your dressier looks the most, particularly your pink and blue two piece set.

Have you ever stumbled across a personal style blog that captures the true essence of individuality? Have you ever thought to yourself, “Why haven’t I heard of this blog?” or “How could I not know this person?” Well, you know what? Stress no more – these types of questions have given way for a new feature I’d like to call the Bomb Blogger.
Bomb Bloggers are those who encompass and execute their own style to the highest degree. Based upon the lines of self-expression and mere talent, Bomb Bloggers articulate fashion in ways others simply cannot. Bomb Bloggers stand out and they never cease to make their presence known.
Not to be confused with the iconic Fashion Bombshell/Bomber of the Day, this feature is solely set aside for bloggers. It is my only hope that you, the Fashion Bomb Reader, have access to fresh up-and-comers while taking away a large amount of inspiration.
To start things off, we have a taste of Texas. Diamond Janae, a resident of Dallas, is the first Bomb Blogger to be featured. Her style is nothing short of unique coupled with a splash of vintage charm, bold colors and enviable accessories.
I ran across her blog due to a period of random web browsing and was taken back. From the breathtaking photography to her statement making (lilac) hair, Diamond Janae is a force to be reckoned with. The girl serves. Point blank.
