Once again, I stumbled across these beautiful sisters while indulging in the usual combing of my favorite style blogs. With their elegantly simple yet chic style, Makeda Lynn and Carmyn Rene of Layllah left me instantly captivated and craving more!
Layllah is a fashion blog for style mavens who are not afraid to mix both high and low pieces while maintaining a sartorially diverse wardrobe. Makeda Lynn and Carmyn Rene base the platform of their site on the idea of channeling the “everyday city girl”. In addition to their evident beauty (and a massive following), it’s clear that this twosome serves as pillars of endless, cool girl inspiration.
The minimally-pleasing style uplifted by each half of the Layllah team proves that subtle sophistication coupled with a hint of edginess concocts the perfect blend of sexy and classy. The primary foundation for many of their looks include neutral colors, lots of leather, dynamic cuts/silhouettes and statement accessories. I chose to feature these young women (not only for their impressive female empowerment but) for their mastery in taking basic pieces and creating notable looks. Slay on, ladies!
Yes! So, I’m a fan!

She types, “I don’t think fashion should be about only sticking to high end designers, but rather how you can obtain the look of a high end outfit.”
“I don’t do a lot of mixing of prints, and heavy layering…”
” I just prefer keeping it cute, simple, and chic.”
“I do enjoy mixing designers and retailers, regardless of price.”
” I’m quick to throw on some Manolos with a dress from Zara!”
“My style icon is June Ambrose, and [if we had lunch] I would stick to something simple, pairing a pair of ripped boyfriend jeans, a blazer and bright colored top, with a pair of Christian Louboutins.”
” Not only is her style amazing, but she continues to maintain such a positive influence upon African American women, and upon me, as a busy mom.”

She types, “Fashion and styling has always been my first love.”
” I feel very confident and at peace when I am styling myself, a guest on one of the shows, a friend, or even my kids, oh, and that rare occasion when my husband ( a very straight laced scientist) let’s me jazz him up! It really excites me!!!”
“My style evolves daily,ha! One day I could be wearing a silk romper with a blazer, then in a tutu skirt with a crisp button down shirt, to an outfit made for the lead singer in a rock band.”
” I love to experiment, and I know what looks good, especially on my body!”
” I was definitely inspired by fashion at an early age because of my mother. She always looked good . Even sashaying around the house. I wanted to emulate that.”
” I’m also inspired by powerful women, like Diane Von Furstenberg, Oprah, Michelle Obama, and Angelina Jolie. When they walk into a room, baby! You HAVE to stop and stare! In addition, I really dig the eclectic style of Japanese Harajuku fashion. It’s out there, but so interesting and cool! I appreciate that.”
“Even though I stay current on the latest trends, I have my own personal style. I would definitely consider myself a trendsetter.”
“Getting my look together is definitely the highlight of my day.”
“I’ve recently started documenting my looks on my Instagram page: @FierceLookOfTheDay.”
