Diversity has been a problem in the fashion industry from its onset. From the lack of black and brown faces on runways all across the world to low representation both in and on high-fashion glossies, it’s an issue we report on season after season—with the needle moving ever so slightly. Which is why the September covers seem like such an explosion this year. Black women are gracing almost ten magazine covers for the month: a historical event if ever there was one.
Beyoncé on Vogue, Serena Williams on New York Magazine, Ciara on Shape, Willow Smith on i-D…and the list goes on. Can you believe it? We hardly can, but trust me: we’re thrilled!
This is what we’ve been waiting for ladies and gentlemen and let’s hope it continues year-round for years to come. With brands like Saks Fifth Avenue supporting Empire and Straight Outta Compton rising to #1 at the box office, it’s just a demonstration of the power that we hold.
Our voices and viewpoints speak to a crucial part of global culture and should always be at the forefront. We’ve seen quite a bit of appropriation of late, but this shows that we do it best, yes?
How are you feeling about this year’s September issues?

It seems that Fashion Nova is the go to jeans brand for the curvy and confident!
Amber Rose is a fan of their $35 Blue Classic High Waisted Jeans, which she’s worn with everything from deep plunge tanks, heels, and sunglasses…
To rocker inspired cropped tank tops, leather jackets, and flat Giuseppe Zanotti sandals.
Blac Chyna has been spied in their $28 high waisted white skinnies. She posed for the ‘gram in the hip hugging pants and haute pink heels, and showed off her barely there waist with a sheer top. The jeans really gave her an hourglass figure!
And Christina Milian has hit the town in their $25 High Waisted Acid Distressed Denim. The distressed details fit perfectly with her casual rocker aesthetic. She completed her look with a zip front bustier top and black boots.
You can’t really beat Fashion Nova’s denim prices when they range from $14.99 to $44.99! And I must admit: every woman wearing the jeans definitely looks hot!
Fashion Nova has more than just jeans!
Dasha Polanco is a fan of Fashion Nova’s $28 Krystal Dress in Olive. She sat pretty in the bodycon dress while awaiting an interview on Revolt News. A gold choker and strappy sandals completed her TV ready look.

Emily Ratajkowski took to the photocall of her new film, We Are Friends in NYC in the same Solace London Wrap Over Top Wide Leg Culotte Jumpsuit Zendaya Coleman originally wore just a couple of weeks ago:
Emily paired the design with loose waves and simple ankle-strap sandals. Zendaya also chose ankle-strap sandals, pulling up her hair in a sleek topknot.
The strapless one-piece features seamed detailing, cutout accents, a wraparound back, and culotte trousers.
Celebs have a new fashion fixation: Balmain’s Gabardine Mini Dress!
Eniko Parrish was the first to wear the piece in white for the Get Hard Premiere in LA.
Kim Kardashian then gave fever in the black version of the dress, cinched to the hilt.
Marlo Hampton rocked the frock in pink, uplifting it with Balmain rope sandals.
The dress is cut for a close fit and features padded shoulders, a wrap-effect front, and faux flap pockets.
Getting one of your own will require a significant splurge! It retails for $4,525, though Marlo’s pink option is currently on sale for $1,478 on The OutNet and Kim’s black version is on sale for $2,130 at Balmain.com.
You can get a similar look for less with this $70 Crepe Front Tailored Bodycon Dress from Missguided (just swap in some gold buttons):
I was hoping the next news involving Ja Rule would be that he and J.Lo were releasing a late Summer anthem, but alas, that isn’t true! What is up next for the rapper is a collaboration with famed accessories designer Steve Madden.
News of the collection started circulating back in February when the line was debuted in Las Vegas. Now, the assortment is up for grabs in select stores and on the brand’s website.
The offerings include four sneaker silhouettes in an array of textures and colors. Some clearly give a nod to Nike, Balenciaga, and others, but I must admit: the designs are actually pretty good looking!
Of working with the Grammy-nominated artist, Steve Madden said: “He came to the table with all of these ideas. He’s an awesome guy. We click. It’s been fun to collaborate with artists. I enjoy it. I enjoy the creative spark.”
Ranging from $145 – $195, the collection is teetering in the middle of the affordability scale—though definitely aligned with Madden’s price points.
