With the rest of the fashion universe being steered in the direction of all things Eastern – kimono sleeves, cheongsams, and gowns emblazoned with backdrops of cherry blossom petals floating in the wind – post this year’s Met Gala, de la Renta’s assortment for next spring took us on a journey through the designer’s memories of Spain.
Peter Copping has been a designer who enjoys creating garments that evoke a particular sentiment or tell us of a moment in time. And this season, the collection did just that to honor the memory of his predecessor.
Before his untimely death, Oscar de la Renta was often seen with a red carnation delicately affixed to his lapel. And rightfully so, the sentiment permeated through Copping’s offerings. Satin gowns, pencil skirts, and dainty daytime frocks were uplifted with printed carnations, an obvious but thoughtful nod to de la Renta himself.
There were scores of red satin and black lace this go ’round, as models glided down the runway in T-strap Mary Janes and espadrilles, echoing how much de la Renta adored Spain. Nostalgia played a vital role here, interweaving de la Renta’s adoration for Spanish bullfighting with a few of the garments. Jackets, sweaters and coats were ornamented with floral appliques and gems reminiscent of toreador costumes. But Copping expertly constructed these pieces, offering glamor without a cluster of adornments.
Despite the walk down memory lane, the collection was still very much de la Renta. Overtly feminine dresses and separates in shades of hunter green, mint, lilac and yellow were quintessentially spring; pieces perfect for a formal daytime affair.
All in all, the collection was nothing short of wearable and beautiful. But creating beautiful clothes comes with a responsibility to convey a statement. Copping’s was clear. Memories can live far beyond a person’s lifespan. But it’s the responsibility of loved ones left behind to preserve and cherish those memories and tiny but unforgettable nuances for generations to come.

So on my last day of New York Fashion Week, I was honored to be invited to the Nanette Lepore presentation with PANDORA Jewelry.
Of course, for the occasion, I accessorized a striped Midget Giraffe suit with a handful of stackable PANDORA rings from their new Autumn Collection. They added just the right amount of shine to my ensemble.
The Nanette Lepore presentation was beautiful!
Models and guests alike all looked gorgeous in their PANDORA jewelry pieces.
Don’t they all look fabulous?
PANDORA has a way of adding the perfect amount of sparkle to your look.
It’s the last day of NYFW, but we still have three more weeks of high-fashion to go!
Celebs flocked to the front row of the catwalk presentations for their favorite brands this week, as well as making appearances at stylish events and parties.
Let’s see what they wore!
This was truly the week of Solange Knowles and I’m hoping she travels to London, Milan, and Paris as well! While jetting in between shows, she slipped on a white long-sleeve blouse left open to expose some décolletage and impossible-to-miss turquoise trousers. Hot!
Gabrielle Union was also a fixture in the front row at many shows. She showed up to Prabal Gurung in an embellished LBD from the brand. Simply stunning.
At the 2015 Essence Street Style Block Party, Melanie Brown stuck to the classic combo of black and white in a lace-inset bustier and high-waist trousers.
Few love glitz and glamour more than Mariah Carey! She shimmered and sparkled at the 2015 Harper’s Bazaar Icons Event in a star print gown.
Rita Ora donned custom Prada at the fashionable party. Pretty!
Katy Perry is now a redhead! The songstress showed off her new hair color at the celebration, where she also performed.
Also at the fête was Michelle Rodriguez in a silver embellished number.
A Raquel Allegra topper, relaxed pants, and Jimmy Choo pumps were Selena Gomez’s choices while out and about in the Big Apple. Simple and chic no?
Another day at work, another look for Maria Menounos! The E! News anchor slipped on a Blaque Label tank, pencil skirt from the brand, and a pair of Schutz sandals for her latest ensemble.
It was all about neutrals (no surprise there) for mommy-to-be Kim Kardashian. She donned a white blazer, turtleneck bodycon dress, and suede boots in NYC.
Sister Khloe traipsed through LAX Airport in an Adidas catsuit and Tom Ford sandals. A pair of sneakers and long anorak would’ve been the perfect complements for this sporty chic ensemble.
Clearly NYFW should be renamed Kardashian-Jenner Fashion Week! Kendall Jenner was both working and werking, draped in a Fausto Puglisi dress and Tom Ford boots at Estee Lauder’s Leonard and Judy Glickman Lauder party. Hot!
Tory Burch’s Spring 2016 show was a star-studded affair, with supermodel Liu Wen, Jessica Alba, and Maggie Q all in attendance in pieces from the brand. These ladies are absolutely gorgeous.
Jamie Chung was white hot at the PopSugar celebration for Jonathan Simkhai in a lacy LWD, Fall-perfect berry lip, and her favorite Aquazzura sandals.
Eiza Gonzalez showed off her enviable physique at PEOPLE’s Ones To Watch party in a mint green curve-hugging design. There’s no denying the girl is flawless!
Demi Lovato headed to Berlin this week in red sunglasses, a classic black leather jacket, red and black stripe frock, and black leather peep-toe booties.
At the E! News Fashion Week Party, Ashley Madekwe showed off her toned gams in a black leather mini skirt, timeless white button-front shirt, and strappy suede sandals. She truly cannot do wrong in the style department.
CLosing out the week was Alessandra Ambrosio at the 2015 Brazil Foundation Cocktail Party in Balmain.
