In the wake of Kanye West dropping two songs, Drake dropped the video for his single “Hotline Bling” as a surprise to most. Embodying the idea of “dance like no one’s watching” the 6 god cuts a rug in Timberlands, sweatpants, a red puffer and more.

But the piece that took off on Twitter? A $400 grey ribbed ‘Jayden’ turtleneck from Acne Studios. And it was good.

 

While the Apple Music artist has a few dance moves to teach us, he demonstrates them in a red bubble coat that seems like it can fend off the chilliest of winter’s winds, an OVO branded hoodie and the spotlight turtleneck.

He rocks the stunner of a piece with a “dad beard,” baggy sweatpants and wheat Timberland boots. While we can’t advise you borrow the same ensemble head to toe, the mock neck itself is definitely covetable.

First Lady Michelle Obama recently launched the Better Make Room Campaign, an initiative targeted towards target Generation Z (young people aged 14-19) to celebrate education, change the national conversation, and give them a space to create content while also navigating the college-going process. The White House tapped Ciara to generate some buzz; the singer attended the announcement ceremony in a $2,395 Black Tuxudo jumpsuit by Ralph Lauren:

ELLE’s 22nd Annual Women in Hollywood Awards is going down with some of our favorite actresses, singers, comediennes, and designers in attendance.

Let’s get into the night’s ensembles shall we?

Tracee Ellis Ross shed a ray of sunshine on the affair, mixing prints in a long-sleeve patterned frock and leopard pumps.

Zoe Saldana accented a three quarter-length sleeve top with a leather striped tie-waist Calvin Klein Collection skirt and $824 Christian Louboutin Toerless Pumps. I liked this.

Ashley Madekwe was very rocker chic in a $2,995 Calvin Klein Leather Stud Dress. Her style is impeccable!

Zoe Kravitz channeled Summer in cream knit Calvin Klein Collection separates.

One of ELLE’s cover stars this month, Ava Duvernay was white hot in a long-sleeve LWD. Such a beauty.

Miles Ahead actress Emayatzy Corinealdi donned a cream embellished KAYAT dress from the brand’s Spring 2015 collection, along with Csarite by Erica Courtney jewels. Simply stunning.

Mary J. Blige was surprisingly pared-down in an artful grey top and black trousers.

Scream Queens star Niecy Nash was the epitome of elegance in a bow-accented little black dress with a mesh skirt. Hot!

America Ferrera went bold in a Novis colorblock wave crop top, high-waist turquoise full skirt, and red patent Kurt Geiger pumps. I loved the mix of colors here.

Straight Outta Compton actress Alexandra Shipp kept it simple and chic in a sleeveless, tuxedo-inspired LBD and peep-toe platform sandals. Isn’t she gorgeous?

One can never go wrong with a black illusion dress that’s tailored to perfection! Lorraine Toussaint perfectly demonstrated that. Hot!

Salma Hayek was gilded in a black and gold Saint Laurent sleeveless number.

Miranda Kerr looked ahmazing in an icy blue suit and a belted bandeau that channeled Carrie Bradshaw. Fierce!

Rachel Zoe shimmered and sparkled in a high-neck embellished gown.

Jenna Dewan Tatum slipped on a high-neck David Koma LWD with flounce sleeve cuffs and contrast black buckled straps. I loved the modernity of this piece!

Emmanuelle Chriqui suited up in all-white.

Scandal’s Darby Stanchfield donned a sheer black, long-sleeve blouse and sheer lace black trousers. This was beautiful.

Happy Tuesday!
So as you know, I spent the last few days at the Revolt Music Conference down at the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach. It was my first time in attendance, and I didn’t know what to expect, but I was blown away by the concerts, dinners, and fabulous events!

One of the absolute highlights of my trip was moderating a panel entitled The Women Behind the Brand, featuring top level female executives from Combs Enterprises.

You may not be aware, but Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’s company is chock full of fierce women in positions of power.
On our illustrious panel was Dia Simms, President of Combs Wine and Spirits.

Ericka M. Pittman, Vice President of the Chairman’s Office of Combs Enterprises.

Erin Harris, Vice President of Vodka for Combs Wine and Spirits.

Marilyn Van Alstyne, CEO of EMVE management group.

And Andrea Sengura, Vice President of Tequila of Combs Wine and Spirits..

Our conversation centered around challenges female executives sometimes face in an industry dominated by men, how to balance being assertive without being labeled a ‘b word,’ how to balance work and family, and how to be the best you can be in your chosen vocation.

A few take aways: take whatever job is offered to you to break into the industry. After enjoying a diverse career path, working for the Department of Defense, advertising sales, and pharmaceuticals, Dia Simms started off at Combs Enterprises as an assistant. Once in the company, she quickly worked her way through the ranks, catapulting to an executive role in less than five years.

Another take away, courtesy of Andrea Sengura: “Don’t be afraid to be brilliant.” Many women tone down their intelligence, in hopes of not offending others. But if you’ve done the work, and have something to contribute, be confident enough to speak up!

When networking, Erin Harris emphasized persistence. People passed out cards with wild abandon at this conference, but few actually followed up. Be the person who takes the next step to send that e-mail or schedule that follow up call. Ericka M. Pittman also brilliantly recommended to send hand written notes to stand out from the crowd.

Lastly, for those ladies balancing both career and family, Dia offered, “be present.” Many women on the panel have families in addition to demanding careers. Simms recommended to stay focused: When you’re with your family, your focus is on family; when you’re at work, it’s all about work!

At any rate, it was a fantastic conversation with a group of smart, ambitious women. They all stand as examples of women worthy of emulation, who have risen to the top through smarts, efficacy, and great conscious decisions in the industry. I was beyond honored to be involved.

I came away from the Revolt Music Conference with even more respect for the Combs brand. A company is nothing without a strong leader and an equally strong leadership team.
