When you think of Donatella’s Versace, you quickly think of sexy, sultry, and confident women in control of their worlds. Versace’s Spring 2016 RTW presentation gave front-row viewers and standing room fanatics a fair share of that plus some. The collection was classic to the brand, yet entirely anew in its utilitarian stance. Let’s get into these looks!
The inspiration was evidently combat and this ethos manifested itself in quite a few ways. First and most obvious, the color and pattern choices: canvas, dark green, and camouflage were dominant elements within most pieces that ranged from blazers and shorts to scarves and even a backpack. Another element was in the footwear: wide-strapped sandals were worn with the ferocity of sky-high stilettos. The models moved easily (dare I say, they looked comfortable!) and that ease is definitely a shift from Versace of recent past.
The thigh-high slits in curve-hugging dresses still made an appearance, but those looks were balanced by separates and cropped bandage tops one might choose to wear everyday. Supermodel Joan Smalls rocked an all-black outfit that consisted of a sportswear jacket, bandage top, and tied-at-the-waist skirt that I’m pretty confident Rihanna would wear straight off the runway. There were touches of the Versace logo on the shoes and accessories, but for the most part, the pieces were devoid of being over-the-top and full of wild wearability.
Donatella undoubtedly had major model star power on her runway; including, but not limited to: Raquel Zimmermann, Natasha Poly, Gigi Hadid, Liya Kebede, Joan Smalls, Binx Walton, Caroline Trentini, and Imaan Hammam to name a few. These women have shown boldness and persistence in making it to the top of an incredibly cutthroat industry. Donatella needed such an army to make sure her empowering message rang loud and clear.
While Rosie dressed her look up with Gianvito Rossi peep toe booties, Nicki stuck to all white, and rocked her jacket with Jordans.
The lustrous army-green shell style is finished with knitted wool trims to seal in heat and is padded for additional warmth.
It’s a pretty versatile piece, and both ladies wore it well!
First Lady Michelle Obama donned a custom Vera Wang Black Silk Crepe Mermaid Gown to welcome China’s President Xi Jinping as the guest of honor at the White House State Dinner in Washington DC:
Her off shoulder dress features an architectural V neckline and tulle sleeve accented by hand draped silk textural organza pleated skirt.
This pictures is priceless!
At any rate, thoughts on Mrs. O’s State Dinner look?
Alicia Keys was also at the He Named Me Malala New York Premiere. For her night out, she slipped on a $750 Public School Lodi Jumpsuit:
Her black crepe-faced silk charmeuse jumpsuit features a relaxed fit, surplice neck, princess seam detailing, darting at the front, long sleeves, double-button barrel cuffs, a set-on waistband with drawcord ties, angled side pockets, and mother-of-pearl buttons.
I’m on the fence with this look. I love a great jumpsuit, but the silhouette of this style wasn’t incredibly flattering.
As we come to the end of another week, we’re preparing for some much needed rest. But, before we dive into our sweet R&R, let’s take a gander at some of our favorite celebrity looks!
To start things off, we have the lovely LaLa Anthony! The TV personality struck a fierce pose as she uplifted a black/blue polka dot print jumpsuit by Diane von Furstenberg. Her classic frock houses an expertly tailored fit and cropped trousers. The fashionista topped off her look with simple black pumps and a silver clutch. Yes!
Actress/singer Adrienne Bailon was also on hand for the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards FOX After Party! This time, she slayed in a nude, form-fitting wonder by the Walter Collection. Her gown oozes sex appeal, no? With a plunging neckline, silver detailing and floor-grazing beauty, this style maven definitely served it up!
Now, our little post would not be complete without some eye candy! David Oyelowo shut it down at the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in a black, three-piece Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo. He accessorized with a matching bow-tie and patent leather loafers. Who doesn’t love a well-dressed man?!
